Web question answering(WQA) and Semantic Web services are currently two separate fields in intelligent web research, but in practical application, they are usually highly correlative. This article combines the techniques in Natural Language processing(NLP) and Hierarchical Task Network(HTN), and puts forward a WQA framework that is based on Semantic Web service composition. This framework uses NLP to analyze questions, describes the questions with predicate logic, maps them to relative Semantic Web services, and transforms question answering to a planning problem by constructing question domain and planning domain. It dynamically composites relative services making use of HTN system SHOP2, gets the planning series with Semantic Web services, and finally obtains the result that satisfied customers' need.

Ray-tracing, can produce high-quality images, however, the use of ray-tracing has been limited due to its high demands on computational power and memory bandwidth, especially in the case of satellite imagery. In this paper, we propose a scalable parallel ray tracing algorithm of satellite imagery on a cluster of multi-core architecture. The algorithm combines demand-driven and data-driven models in order to reduce communication on the cost of maintaining redundant data. In order to make the most of computer's parallelism and increase computational efficiency, it combines two levels of parallelisms, the TLP parallelism brought by the many core architecture and the inter-node parallelism via MPI and OpenMP. Experiment results show that the algorithm is highly scalability. © 2011 IEEE.

How to make use of limited memory space and processing speeds of computer for rapid and accurate data mining has become an important research topic on the stream data cluster analysis. A stream data clustering algorithm based on the minimum spanning tree (MSTSC) is described. MSTSC is divided into online processing and offline clustering. Stream data are analyzed online by using two groups of processing unit respectively. In offline process clusters is taken as representative objects, and the minimum spanning tree algorithm is used in offline clustering. MSTSC can improve the clustering quality on non-spherical clusters. Some experiments are carried out in both real data sets and synthetic data sets. Results show that MSTSC algorithm not only can deal with non-spherical clusters effectively, but also has better efficiency and clustering quality. In addition, MSTSC is insensitive to order of input data, and has a good effect for skewed class distributions.

We present TelosCAM, a networking system that integrates wireless module nodes (such as TelosB nodes) with legacy surveillance cameras to provide storage-efficient and privacy-aware services of accurate, realtime tracking and identifying of the burglar who stole the property. In our system, a property owner will have a wireless module node (called secondary module) attached to the property that s/he wants to protect. The secondary wireless module node will not store any personal information about the owner, nor any specific information about the property to be protected. Each user of the system will also have a unique wireless module node (called primary module) that contains some security information about the user, thus should be privately held by the user and be kept to the user always. Once a tracking process is triggered in privacy preserving manner, the secondary module will start sending out the alarm signal periodically. The alarm signal will be captured by some surveillance wireless module, integrated with existing surveillance cameras. Using the trajectory information provided by the secondary wireless module node, and the videos captured by the surveillance cameras, our system will then automatically pinpoint a burglar (e.g., a person or a car) that is more likely to carry the stolen property. Our extensive evaluation of the system shows that we can find the burglars with surprisingly high accuracy under various experiment settings, with significantly reduced storage-requirement of the legacy video surveillance system. It also can help the police to catch the burglars more efficiently by providing critical images or videos containing the burglars. © 2011 IEEE.

MiRNA are about 22nt long small noncoding RNAs that post transcriptionally regulate gene expression in animals, plants and protozoa. Confident identification of MiRNA-Target Interactions (MTI) is vital to understand their function. Currently, several integrated programs and databases are available for animal miRNAs, the mechanisms of which are significantly different from plant miRNAs. Here we present imiRTP, an integrated MTI prediction and analysis toolkit for Arabidopsis thaliana. It features two important functions: (i) combination of several effective plant miRNA target prediction methods provides a sufficiently large MTI candidate set, and (ii) different filters allow for an efficient selection of potential targets. The modularity of imiRTP enables the prediction of high quality targets on genome-wide scale.

MicroRNAs can regulate hundreds of target genes and play a pivotal role in a broad range of biological process. However, relatively little is known about how these highly connected miRNAs-target networks are remodelled in the context of various diseases. Here we examine the dynamic alteration of context-specific miRNA regulation to determine whether modified microRNAs regulation on specific biological processes is a useful information source for predicting cancer prognosis. A new concept, Context-specific miRNA activity (CoMi activity) is introduced to describe the statistical difference between the expression level of a miRNA's target genes and non-targets genes within a given gene set (context). The microarray gene expression profile of brain tumors from 356 patients (The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset) was converted into a CoMi activity pattern, and showed significant positive correlation with the corresponding miRNA expression pattern. In a breast cancer cohort, the differential CoMi activity between good prognosis (longer survival) vs. bad prognosis patients forms a scale-free network, which highlighted a group of important cancer-related microRNAs and GO terms, e.g. hsa-miR-34a and 'cell adhesion'. Then two breast cancer cohorts were used in outcome prediction in an independent test. Using a popular T-test feature selection method and a support vector machine (SVM) classifier with 10-fold cross-validation, the CoMi activity feature achieves an area under curve (AUC) of 0.7155, better than the AUC value of 0.6339 for feature selection based on mRNA expression. In an independent test, CoMi feature selection achieved an AUC of 0.6874. Survival analysis also shows signatures defined by CoMi activity was predictive of survival and superior to mRNAs signatures. In short, we have demonstrated the first interrogation of dynamic remodeling of context specific miRNAs regulation networks in cancer. Aiming at the problems that existing Chinese webpage duplicate removal approaches are restricted by the page scale and the algorithm efficiency, we propose an efficient distributed parallel duplicates elimination approach based on Linux cluster. This paper not only solves the problems of memory limitations and large computation caused by the huge data scale, but also researches into the time-series problems in the distributed parallel computing and gives an effective solution. Evidence theory is widely used in many application systems such as information fusion and decision making under uncertainty environment. However, the classical Dempster combination rule is not efficient to deal with highly conflicting evidences. One of the open issues is how to determine the conflict degree in conflict evidence management. In this paper, a new conflict coefficient is proposed to measure the conflict degree between bodies of evidence. It can overcome some drawbacks of the classical conflict coefficient. A group of decision-makers may differ in their choice of alternatives while making a decision. As a result, how to aggregate opinions of different experts is still an open issue. Due to the uncertainty in the process of decision making, some mathematic tools such as fuzzy sets theory and evidence theory, are used to model uncertain information. In this paper, the experts' opinions are represented by interval numbers. A new optimal aggregation method to combine interval data is proposed based on genetic algorithm. The new method can deal with experts' opinions in an efficient manner. A numerical example on group decision making under uncertain environment is used to illustrate the efficiency of our proposed method. Copyright © 2011 Binary information Press.
