Sequential recommendation methods can capture dynamic user preferences from user historical interactions to achieve better performance. However, most existing methods only use past information extracted from user historical interactions to train the models, leading to the deviations of user preference modeling. Besides past information, future information is also available during training, which contains the "oracle" user preferences in the future and will be beneficial to model dynamic user preferences. Therefore, we propose an oracle-guided dynamic user preference modeling method for sequential recommendation (Oracle4Rec), which leverages future information to guide model training on past information, aiming to learn "forward-looking" models. Specifically, Oracle4Rec first extracts past and future information through two separate encoders, then learns a forward-looking model through an oracle-guiding module which minimizes the discrepancy between past and future information. We also tailor a two-phase model training strategy to make the guiding more effective. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Oracle4Rec is superior to state-of-the-art sequential methods. Further experiments show that Oracle4Rec can be leveraged as a generic module in other sequential recommendation methods to improve their performance with a considerable margin. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The advancement of the Industry 5.0 in information technology has led to increased interest in integrating edge-cloud cooperation with Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical system (CPS) designs. This integration effectively reduces service delays and provides real-time analysis feedback to physical spaces, attracting attention from both academia and industry. These advanced technologies enhance production system intelligence, their alignment with circular economy principles for promoting sustainability has been overlooked. To address this gap, this article proposes an intelligent sustainability evaluation strategy driven by edge-cloud cooperation, IoT, and CPS. The proposed approach aims to enhance production sustainability and intelligence through circular economy perspectives. It introduces improved gray relation analysis and deep clustering network techniques to extract meaningful insights from diverse indicators within the evaluation system. By analyzing relationships between different equipment and workshops, it provides an analytical method that enhances production efficiency while reducing energy consumption and resource waste. To further validate the proposed method, an illustrative example using a partner company’s production data demonstrates its accuracy. © 2014 IEEE.

Boosting semi-supervised federated learning by effectively exploiting server-side knowledge and client-side unconfident samples

Semi-supervised federated learning (SSFL) has emerged as a promising paradigm to reduce the need for fully labeled data in training federated learning (FL) models. This paper focuses on the label-at-server scenario, where clients’ data are entirely unlabeled and the server possesses only a limited amount of labeled data. In this setting, the non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) local data and the incorrect pseudo-labels will possibly introduce bias into the model during local training. Prior works try to alleviate the bias by fine-tuning the global model with clean labeled data, ignoring explicitly leveraging server-side knowledge to guide local training. Additionally, existing methods typically discard samples with unconfident pseudo-labels, resulting in many samples being not used, consequently suboptimal performance and slow convergence. This paper introduces a novel method to enhance SSFL performance by effectively exploiting server-side clean knowledge and client-side unconfident samples. Specifically, we propose a representation alignment module that mitigates the influence of non-IID data by aligning local features with the class proxies of the server labeled data. Furthermore, we employ a shrink loss to reduce the risk associated with unreliable pseudo-labels, ensuring the exploitation of valuable information contained in the entire unlabeled dataset. Extensive experiments on five benchmark datasets under various settings demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of the proposed method, which not only outperforms existing methods but also reduces the communication cost required to achieve the target performance. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Multipath signal recognition is crucial to the ability to provide high-precision absolute-position services by the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System(BDS).However,most existing approaches to this issue involve supervised machine learning(ML)methods,and it is difficult to move to unsupervised multipath signal recognition because of the limitations in signal *** by an autoencoder with powerful unsupervised feature extraction,we propose a new deep learning(DL)model for BDS signal recognition that places a long short-term memory(LSTM)module in series with a convolutional sparse autoencoder to create a new autoencoder ***,we propose to capture the temporal correlations in long-duration BeiDou satellite time-series signals by using the LSTM module to mine the temporal change patterns in the time ***,we develop a convolutional sparse autoencoder method that learns a compressed representation of the input data,which then enables downscaled and unsupervised feature extraction from long-duration BeiDou satellite series ***,we add an l_(1/2) regularizer to the objective function of our DL model to remove redundant neurons from the neural network while ensuring recognition *** tested our proposed approach on a real urban canyon dataset,and the results demonstrated that our algorithm could achieve better classification performance than two ML-based methods(e.g.,11%better than a support vector machine)and two existing DL-based methods(e.g.,7.26%better than convolutional neural networks).

Distributed Multi-Agent Resource Allocation Based on Transformer and DRL for Cloud XR Hybrid Content Transmission

Extended reality (XR) technologies and applications have grown rapidly in recent years. In addition to providing immersive ultra-high-definition (UHD) video, XR also allows for a haptic experience where devices can be remotely manipulated to accomplish tasks. However, varying numbers of XR users accessing the communication system can strain limited spectrum resources, posing challenges in resource allocation. Therefore, this paper studies resource blocks (RBs) allocation problem in a downlink transmission scenario where real-time cloud XR video and haptic contents need to be transmitted simultaneously. We also consider the random variation in the number of XR users and propose an Adaptive Distributed Multi-Agent Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) combined with Transformer (ADMA-DcT) for dynamic RB allocation method. This method addresses the dynamic change in network input dimensions due to user number variability using a state division module and a self-attention mechanism in the encoder module. To our knowledge, this is the first work to study the RB allocation problem in Cloud XR transmission considering simultaneous transmitting of video and haptic services with a dynamically changing user base. Our extensive simulations show that the ADMA-DcT model, end-to-end trained, outperforms other benchmarks in successfully serving a larger number of XR users under varying user number conditions, demonstrating excellent adaptivity and robustness. © 2014 IEEE.

Curvilinear Structure segmentation has numerous applications in various fields, including providing a better understanding of defects such as cracks on roads or walls, thereby assessing the structural safety of buildings. Numerous curve segmentation methods based on Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN) have been developed in recent years. However, preserving feature integrity remains a challenge. To address this issue, this paper introduces a double dynamic network, called DD-Net, which consists of a dynamic structure for training and dynamic masking for inference. Firstly, to enhance the nonlinearity of the model, a paradigm to auto-adjust the CNN structure via a trainable module is formed for better fine-grained feature extraction. This dynamic structure (DS) paradigm enables a trade-off to extract or discard the feature data in the model training. Due to the data heterogeneity between the training and inference data, models may contain some useless nodes that are less effective during inference. The dynamic masking (DM) is proposed to omit the useless nodes based on the score difference between the train and inference feature statistics, thereby reducing redundant computations. To further improve the model’s performance on thin-curve segmentation and to preserve feature integrity, we introduce a non-curve suppression (NCS) module. This module focuses on background information while considering foreground prediction to address noisy conditions. The experimental results show that our DD-Net achieves promising results on three benchmark datasets and outperforms state-of-the-art curve segmentation models. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Diffusion models, known for their success in various generative tasks like image generation and super-resolution, are applied in this study for point cloud generation, a field that has not been extensively explored due to the complexity of point clouds. We propose a novel method using a diffusion model to generate high-quality 3D point clouds from 2D sketches. This method employs a self-supervised contrastive learning scheme to align sketch and point cloud modalities. Additionally, it incorporates a specific partition mixing strategy to integrate edge information during pre-training. Evaluated on two benchmark datasets, our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches, showcasing the potential of diffusion models in point cloud generation and setting a new direction for future research.

Visual grounding involves the identification and localization of image regions given textual descriptions. To reduce the manual labeling effort on region-text pairs, unsupervised visual grounding aims to generate pseudo bounding box and query pairs for training grounding models. However, there exists significant disparities between real and pseudo queries in terms of object, attribute distributions, and textual formats, limiting the generalization performance of unsupervised grounding methods. To address this challenge, we propose a novel unsupervised visual grounding framework. During training, we prompt Multimodal Large Language Models to generate pseudo queries, in which the entities are beyond the object detector’s pre-defined limited categories, and are associated with richer attributes. We further devise a Modifier Tree structure to bridge the gap of textual format between real and pseudo queries. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art unsupervised approaches on public benchmark datasets, particularly when dealing with complex queries.

Sketch-based 3D shape retrieval has become a prominent area of research in computer vision, confronting challenges related to the inherent diversity and abstraction of sketches, as well as inter-domain discrepancies. This paper introduces a novel approach called Dual Knowledge Distillation Dynamic Learning (DKD2L) aimed at enhancing the extraction of spatio-temporal features for sketch-based 3D shape retrieval. We develop a temporal feature extraction network to effectively capture the dynamic temporal characteristics of sketches and improve retrieval efficiency through temporal knowledge distillation. Additionally, to tackle intra-class variation and inter-class imbalance, we apply semantic knowledge distillation, enabling the 3D shape network to guide the sketch network in capturing common semantic information. This approach facilitates precise cross-modal alignment and enhances retrieval accuracy. Extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets demonstrate that DKD2L surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods. © 2025 IEEE.

Improving Speaker Verification Back-End with Graph Neural Networks

Currently, research on speaker verification tasks is primarily concentrated on enhancing deep speaker models to extract high-quality speaker embeddings. Nevertheless, this speaker embeddings can be regarded as potential graph structures. Therefore, this paper introduces a graph neural network-based speaker verification back-end approach, treating the speaker embeddings derived from the front-end as graph structures and leveraging graph neural networks to uncover the relationships among embeddings, thereby achieving superior-quality speaker embeddings. In addition, we propose a group updating method to solve the problem of memory overflow when the number of nodes is excessive. Extensive experiments and ablation studies were carried out on the VoxCeleb dataset, and the experimental outcomes validate the effectiveness of our proposed graph neural network speaker back-end in significantly boosting the performance of speaker verification systems.
