To alleviate the burden on the core network, edge computing has rapidly advanced to support distributed computing. However, as sensitive information is delegated to the edge layer closer to endpoints, the privacy protection challenges faced by edge nodes intensify while striving to deliver high-quality services. Existing studies predominantly rely on various encryption algorithms to safeguard privacy information, such as identity, location, and offloading routes privacy. Unfortunately, these approaches exhibit high overhead and often neglect the potential maliciousness of the nodes themselves. To address these issues, this paper introduces a lightweight edge node verification and protection strategy. This strategy not only verifies the reliability of edge nodes but also enables anonymized uploading of private information. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the superiority of this strategy over existing schemes, showcasing reduced computational overhead while achieving enhanced protection.

Reinforcement learning (RL) aims to formulate the recommendation task as a Markov decision process (MDP) and trains an agent to automatically learn the optimal recommendation policy from interaction trajectories through trial-and-error and reward mechanisms. However, most existing RL-based approaches overlook the correlation between items and the dynamics of user interests implied in temporally close interactions. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning method that incorporates a "recent-k items"distribution to capture users' local preferences. Specifically, we model the output layer as two distinct branches. The "recent-k items"branch, formulated with a Kullback-Leibler divergence loss, learns the recent interests of users, whereas the other branch utilizes a one-step temporal difference error to capture long-term preferences. The proposed structure is integrated into deep Q-learning and actor-critics, resulting in two enhanced methods named R k Q and R k AC, respectively. Furthermore, a novel soft inter-reward is carefully designed to enhance the proposed method, and we theoretically prove the convergence of the proposed algorithm. We perform extensive experiments on two large real-world datasets and conduct further analysis of the influences of different action sequences, time intervals, and enhancement capabilities for state-of-the-art models. The experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed methods. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

The Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), a well-known NP-hard problem, is widely applied across manufacturing, biology, transportation, and other fields. In recent years, deep reinforcement learning (DRL), particularly DRL based on Transformer architectures, has emerged as a popular approach to solving TSP. However, the quadratic computational and space complexities of Transformer models pose challenges for handling larger-scale TSP instances. This paper introduces Sym-Favformer, an end-to-end DRL method based on symmetry regularization in the Transformer. In this approach, the encoder incorporates a Fast Attention Via positive Orthogonal Random features (FAVOR+) mechanism with linear complexity, while the decoder adopts a distance-based dynamic selection mechanism, and employs the Lion optimizer to reduce training time and memory consumption. To enhance performance and generalization, Sym-Favformer applies a random transformation data augmentation technique within the encoder and introduces enhanced context embedding in the decoder. Subsequently, the model is trained using a symmetry-regularized REINFORCE method. Experimental results show that Sym- Favformer significantly outperforms existing end-to-end DRL methods on both randomly generated benchmark instances and TSPLIB datasets, demonstrating strong generalization to larger-scale TSP instances.

The pursuit of quality improvements and accountability in the food supply chains, especially how they relate to food-related outcomes, such as hunger, has become increasingly vital, necessitating a comprehensive approach that encompasses product quality and its impact on various stakeholders and their communities. Such an approach offers numerous benefits in increasing product quality and eliminating superfluous measurements while appraising and alleviating the broader societal and environmental repercussions. A traceable impact management model (TIMM) provides an impact structure and a reporting mechanism that identifies each stakeholder’s role in the total impact of food production and consumption stages. The model aims to increase traceability’s utility in understanding the impact of changes on communities affected by food production and consumption, aligning with current and future government requirements, and addressing the needs of communities and consumers. This holistic approach is further supported by an ontological model that forms the logical foundation and a unified terminology. By proposing a holistic and integrated solution across multiple stakeholders, the model emphasizes quality and the extensive impact of championing accountability, sustainability, and responsible practices with global traceability. With these combined efforts, the food supply chain moves toward a global tracking and tracing process that not only ensures product quality but also addresses its impact on a broader scale, fostering accountability, sustainability, and responsible food production and consumption. © 2025, CC BY.

Deep learning techniques have become increasingly prevalent in hyperspectral image (HSI) classification. However, convolutional neural network (CNN)-based approaches often struggle with inefficient utilization of spectral sequence data and inadequate processing of fine-grained spectral details. In contrast, transformer models are inherently designed to capture sequence dependencies across spectral bands. Yet, most existing approaches tend to focus on either local or global feature extraction separately, which limits their ability to fully exploit the spectral information. To overcome these limitations, we propose the Local and Global Fusion Spectral Transformer (LGFST), an innovative architecture that combines Swin Transformer blocks, standard Transformer blocks, and a novel Local-Global Fusion (LGF) module. This architecture is designed to simultaneously capture both local and global features, thereby improving the extraction of detailed spectral information. The Swin Transformer block, integrated with patch merging and hierarchical attention mechanisms, expands the receptive field and enhances local feature representation through both intra- and cross-window interactions. Meanwhile, the Transformer block performs self-attention across all tokens to extract global features. The fusion of local and global features from these two blocks effectively improves the texture and discriminative power of spectral data, leading to enhanced classification performance, especially in scenarios with dense class distributions. Finally, the LGF module facilitates interaction between local and global feature sets, ensuring a seamless integration of information from both blocks. Extensive experiments on three benchmark HSI datasets demonstrate that LGFST outperforms conventional transformer models and sets new benchmarks in performance compared to state-of-the-art methods.

This paper presents a novel controller design for dealing with the challenges posed by Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks in the context of Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIOT). The proposed design employs a prediction approach that utilizes uniform quantization for both encoder and decoder, aiming to effectively mitigate data loss during data transmission in scenarios involving DoS attacks. Furthermore, the study investigates the application of dynamic system design as a means to enhance the security defense mechanisms of AIOT, consequently bolstering the overall resilience of the system. The effectiveness and practicality of the proposed approach are validated through comprehensive simulations, providing empirical evidence of its efficacy. © 2023 IEEE.

Hyperspectral super-resolution involves combining low-resolution hyperspectral images with high-resolution multispectral images to produce a high-resolution hyperspectral image. Recently, although many methods for hyperspectral image super-resolution have been proposed, they often fail to fully utilize the high similarity among adjacent bands to enhance fusion performance. Therefore, we propose a grouping strategy-based progressive fusion network (GPFNet) for hyperspectral super-resolution. The core of GPFNet is the grouping strategy fusion block (GPF block), in which grouping-based spatial-spectral information fusion and spatial information refinement are performed. We design the spatial-spectral information fusion module (SSIFM) based on grouped convolutions to capture the feature differences from adjacent bands. To refine spatial details, we develop the spatial information enhancement module (SpaEM), which leverages the hierarchical features extracted by the multi-scale feature extraction module (MIEM). Additionally, a progressive fusion strategy, which involves using multiple upsampled hyperspectral images and downsampled multispectral images, further preserves spectral integrity and spatial details. Extensive experiments show that GPFNet outperforms state-of-the-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly permeating all aspects of human life, involving a network of devices that share sensitive data. A notable application is the e-healthcare systems, which employ connected sensors, medical servers, and wearable devices. However, the public nature of communication in e-healthcare systems poses challenges such as security, privacy, and authentication of participating entities. Recently, many authentication protocols have been introduced to address these challenges. However, most of these protocols remain vulnerable to various security attacks, including device or medical server impersonation, denial of service, physical or cloning, and de-synchronization attacks. Therefore, we introduce an authenticated key-management protocol utilizing hash functions and Cipher-Block Chaining-Advanced Encryption Standard encryption (CBC-AES) encryption. The proposed protocol also employs the Physical Unclonable Function (PUF), which makes it more robust and efficient in resisting physical or cloning attacks. Additionally, the proposed scheme resists various security threats, including impersonation, session key leakage, ephemeral secret leakage, and de-synchronization attacks. We analyze the scheme’s security and reliability through formal and informal analysis. The informal analysis demonstrates that the scheme encompasses crucial security features, while the formal analysis substantiates. Moreover, performance analysis of the proposed protocol with various competing results indicates that our protocol achieves an average reduction in communication and computation overheads by 36.03.% and 41.79%, respectively. © 2014 IEEE.

Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS) aim to enhance societal efficiency by integrating intelligent, interactive systems. To support CPSS, data is often gathered from the cloud, but non-real-time cloud-user connections affect Quality-of-Service (QoS). To solve this, we propose offloading storage to the edge, caching popular content near users. We select cluster heads using local clustering, social intimacy, and betweenness centrality. Then, we group users using the Pairwise Constrained K-Means-Monotonic (PCKMM) algorithm based on distance, relationships, and content preferences. Using unsupervised recurrent federated learning (URFL), we predict content popularity and adjust clusters dynamically. Content is cached with a popularity-driven greedy strategy, reducing access latency.

PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a type of small non-coding RNAs which bind with the PIWI proteins to exert biological effects in various regulatory mechanisms. A growing amount of evidence reveals that exosomal piRNAs are potential biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. Effective methods for the prediction of exosomal piRNAs are the foundation of piRNA functional research. In this study, we propose an end-to-end deep network for identifying exosomal piRNAs based on features learned from natural language processing (NLP) models for sequence embedding with attention mechanism. First, a benchmark dataset is constructed by processing piRNA subcellular localization annotated data and sequence data. Moreover, bagging positive unlabeled learning is applied to get the reliable negative set. Finally, we treat a piRNA sequence as a sentence and its k-mer subsequence as a token. Sequence embedding models with self-attention mechanism is designed to extract features from exosome piRNA sequences, which are used for the prediction task. Compared with three competing methods, our model achieves the best performance and reveals the key factors of exosomal piRNA sequences by the attention mechanism. Our model characterizes exosomal piRNAs and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate exosomal piRNAs' functions. © 2022 IEEE.
