The Mobile Edge computing (MEC) system located close to the client allows mobile smart devices to offload their computations onto edge servers, enabling them to benefit from low-latency computing services. Both cloud service providers and users seek more comprehensive solutions, necessitating judicious decisions in service deployment and task offloading while balancing multiple objectives. This study investigates service deployment and task offloading challenges in a multi-user environment, framing them as a multi-task high-dimensional multi-objective optimization (MT-HD-MOO) problem within an edge environment. To ensure stable service provisioning, beyond considering latency, energy consumption, and cost as deployment objectives, network reliability is also incorporated. Furthermore, to promote equitable usage of edge servers, load balancing is introduced as a fourth task offloading objective, in addition to latency, energy consumption, and cost. Additionally, this paper designs a MT-HD-MOO algorithm based on a multi-selection strategy to address this model and its solution. By employing diverse selection strategies, an environment selection strategy pool is established to enhance population diversity within the high-dimensional objective space. Resource-Aware Multi-Criteria Vehicle Participation for Federated Learning in Internet of Vehicles

Federated learning (FL), as a safe distributed training mode, provides strong support for the edge intelligence of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) to realize efficient collaborative control and safe data sharing. However, due to the resource limitation and the instability of training environment in the complex IoV, ideal performance of FL cannot be achieved. Since considering the actual resource constraints and federated task requirements, the diversified device selection criteria make the resource-aware vehicle selection problem become a multi-criteria selection problem. To effectively support FL for IoV, the resource-aware multi-criteria vehicle selection problem was described as a many-objective optimization problem, and proposed a resource-aware many-objective vehicle selection model (RA-MaOVSM) to optimize resource efficiency. The RA-MaOVSM considering heterogeneous resources (like computation resources, communication resources, energy resources and data resources) of on-board devices in IoV, and realizes the joint optimization of learning efficiency, energy cost and global performance. Additionally, a novel probability distribution combination game strategy is applied to many-objective evolutionary algorithm (MaOEA) for improving the model solving performance. Simulation results demonstrate that RA-MaOVSM can effectively optimize the IoV resources and FL model performance, and the designed algorithm exhibits good convergence and distribution, achieving a good balance among multiple device selection criteria. © 2023, The Authors. Epilepsy is a prevalent chronic disorder of the central nervous system. The timely and accurate seizure prediction using the scalp Electroencephalography (EEG) signal can make patients adopt reasonable preventive measures before seizures occur and thus reduce harm to patients. In recent years, deep learning-based methods have made significant progress in solving the problem of epileptic seizure prediction. However, most current methods mainly focus on modeling short- or long-term dependence in EEG, while neglecting to consider both. In this study, we propose a parallel Dual-Branch Fusion Network (PDBFusNet) which aims to combine the complementary advantages of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Transformer. Specifically, the features of the EEG signal are first extracted using Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC). Then, the extracted features are delivered into the parallel dual-branches to simultaneously capture the short- and long-term dependencies of EEG signal. Further, regarding the Transformer branch, a novel feature fusion module is developed to enhance the ability of utilizing time, frequency, and channel information. To evaluate our proposal, we perform sufficient experiments on the public epileptic EEG dataset CHB-MIT, where the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and precision are 95.76%, 95.81%, 95.71% and 95.71%, respectively. PDBFusNet shows superior performance compared to state-of-the-art competitors, which confirms the effectiveness of our proposal. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

An in-depth exploration of LAMOST Unknown spectra based on density clustering

LAMOST (Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope) has completed the observation of nearly 20 million celestial objects, including a class of spectra labeled ‘Unknown’. Besides low signal-to-noise ratio, these spectra often show some anomalous features that do not work well with current templates. In this paper, a total of 638,000 ‘Unknown’ spectra from LAMOST DR5 are selected, and an unsupervised-based analytical framework of ‘Unknown’ spectra named SA-Frame (Spectra analysis-Frame) is provided to explore their origins from different perspectives. The SA-Frame is composed of three parts: NAPC-Spec clustering, characterization and origin analysis. First, NAPC-Spec(Nonparametric density clustering algorithm for spectra) characterizes different features in the"unknown" spectrum by adjusting the influence space and divergence distance to minimize the effects of noise and high dimensionality, resulting in 13 types. Second, characteristic extraction and representation of clustering results are carried out based on spectral lines and continuum, where these 13 types are characterized as regular spectra with low S/Ns, splicing problems, suspected galactic emission signals, contamination from city light and un-gregarious type respectively. Third, a preliminary analysis of their origins is made from the characteristics of the observational targets, contamination from the sky, and the working status of the instruments. These results would be valuable for improving the overall data quality of large-scale spectral surveys. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
