Video semantic segmentation (VSS) is beneficial for dealing with dynamic scenes due to the continuous property of the real-world environment. On the one hand, some methods alleviate the predicted inconsistent problem between continuous frames. On the other hand, other methods employ the previous frame as the prior information to assist in segmenting the current frame. Although the previous methods achieve superior performances on the independent and identically distributed (i.i.d) data, they can not generalize well on other unseen domains. Thus, we explore a new task, the video generalizable semantic segmentation (VGSS) task that considers both continuous frames and domain generalization. In this paper, we propose a class-wise non-salient region generalized (CNSG) framework for the VGSS task. Concretely, we first define the class-wise non-salient feature, which describes features of the class-wise non-salient region that carry more generalizable information. Then, we propose a class-wise non-salient feature reasoning strategy to select and enhance the most generalized channels adaptively. Finally, we propose an inter-frame non-salient centroid alignment loss to alleviate the predicted inconsistent problem in the VGSS task. We also extend our video-based framework to the image-based generalizable semantic segmentation (IGSS) task. In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem to the three dimensional heat conducting compressible nematic liquid crystal system in the presence of vacuum and with vacuum far fields. Global well-posedness of strong solutions is established under the condition that the scaling invariant quantity (||ρ0||∞ + 1)[||ρ0||3 + (||ρ0||∞ + 1)2(||√ρ0u0||22 + ||∇d0||22)][||∇u0||22 + (||ρ0||∞ + 1)(||√ρ0E0||22 + ||∇2d0||22)] is sufficiently small with the smallness depending only on the parameters appeared in the system. Analysis of adaptive synchrosqueezing transform with a time-varying parameter

The synchrosqueezing transform (SST) was developed recently to separate the components of non-stationary multicomponent signals. The continuous wavelet transform-based SST (WSST) reassigns the scale variable of the continuous wavelet transform of a signal to the frequency variable and sharpens the time-frequency representation. The WSST with a time-varying parameter, called the adaptive WSST, was introduced very recently in the paper "Adaptive synchrosqueezing transform with a time-varying parameter for non-stationary signal separation". The well-separated conditions of non-stationary multicomponent signals with the adaptive WSST and a method to select the time-varying parameter were proposed in that paper. In addition, simulation experiments in that paper show that the adaptive WSST is very promising in estimating the instantaneous frequency of a multicomponent signal, and in accurate component recovery. However the theoretical analysis of the adaptive WSST has not been studied. In this paper, we carry out such analysis and obtain error bounds for component recovery with the adaptive WSST and the 2nd-order adaptive WSST. These results provide a mathematical guarantee to non-stationary multicomponent signal separation with the adaptive WSST. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Nonconvex and nonsmooth sparse optimization via adaptively iterative reweighted methods

We propose a general formulation of nonconvex and nonsmooth sparse optimization problems with convex set constraint, which can take into account most existing types of nonconvex sparsity-inducing terms, bringing strong applicability to a wide range of applications. We design a general algorithmic framework of iteratively reweighted algorithms for solving the proposed nonconvex and nonsmooth sparse optimization problems, which solves a sequence of weighted convex regularization problems with adaptively updated weights. First-order optimality condition is derived and global convergence results are provided under loose assumptions, making our theoretical results a practical tool for analyzing a family of various reweighted algorithms. The effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed formulation and the algorithms are demonstrated in numerical experiments on various sparse optimization problems. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Sparse estimation via `q optimization method in high-dimensional linear regression

In this paper, we discuss the statistical properties of the `q optimization methods (0 q minimization method and the `q regularization method, for estimating a sparse parameter from noisy observations in high-dimensional linear regression with either a deterministic or random design. For this purpose, we introduce a general q-restricted eigenvalue condition (REC) and provide its sufficient conditions in terms of several widely-used regularity conditions such as sparse eigenvalue condition, restricted isometry property, and mutual incoherence property. By virtue of the q-REC, we exhibit the stable recovery property of the `q optimization methods for either deterministic or random designs by showing that the `2 recovery bound O(2) for the `q minimization method and the oracle inequality and `2 recovery bound O(λ2−2 q s) for the `q regularization method hold respectively with high probability. The results in this paper are nonasymptotic and only assume the weak q-REC. The preliminary numerical results verify the established statistical property and demonstrate the advantages of the `q regularization method over some existing sparse optimization methods. Let g be a complex simple Lie algebra. A simple g-module is called minimal if the associated variety of its annihilator ideal coincides with the closure of the minimal nilpotent coadjoint orbit. The main result of this paper is a classification of minimal highest weight modules for g. This classification extends the work of Joseph, which focused on categorizing minimal highest weight modules annihilated by completely prime ideals. Furthermore, we have determined the associated varieties of these modules. In other words, we have identified all possible weak quantizations of minimal orbital varieties. © 2019, CC BY-NC-SA.

Semi-supervised Symmetric Non-negative Matrix Factorization with Low-Rank Tensor Representation

Semi-supervised symmetric non-negative matrix factorization (SNMF) utilizes the available supervisory information (usually in the form of pairwise constraints) to improve the clustering ability of SNMF. The previous methods introduce the pairwise constraints from the local perspective, i.e., they either directly refine the similarity matrix element-wisely or restrain the distance of the decomposed vectors in pairs according to the pairwise constraints, which overlook the global perspective, i.e., in the ideal case, the pairwise constraint matrix and the ideal similarity matrix possess the same low-rank structure. To this end, we first propose a novel semi-supervised SNMF model by seeking low-rank representation for the tensor synthesized by the pairwise constraint matrix and a similarity matrix obtained by the product of the embedding matrix and its transpose, which could strengthen those two matrices simultaneously from a global perspective. We then propose an enhanced SNMF model, making the embedding matrix tailored to the above tensor low-rank representation. We finally refine the similarity matrix by the strengthened pairwise constraints. We repeat the above steps to continuously boost the similarity matrix and pairwise constraint matrix, leading to a high-quality embedding matrix. Analysis of a Direct Separation Method Based on Adaptive Chirplet Transform for Signals with Crossover Instantaneous Frequencies

In many applications, it is necessary to retrieve the sub-signal building blocks of a multicomponent signal, which is usually non-stationary in real-world and real-life applications. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD), synchrosqueezing transform (SST), signal separation operation (SSO), and iterative filtering decomposition (IFD) have been proposed and developed for this purpose. However, these computational methods are restricted by the specification of well-separation of the sub-signal frequency curves for multi-component signals. On the other hand, the chirplet transform-based signal separation scheme (CT3S) that extends SSO from the two-dimensional "time-frequency" plane to the three-dimensional "time-frequency-chirp rate" space was recently proposed in our recent work to remove the frequency-separation specification, and thereby allowing "frequency crossing". The main objective of this present paper is to carry out an in-depth error analysis study of instantaneous frequency estimation and component recovery for the CT3S method. A three-dimensional dual-domain deep network for high-pitch and sparse helical CT reconstruction

In this paper, we propose a new GPU implementation of the Katsevich algorithm for helical CT reconstruction. Our implementation divides the sinograms and reconstructs the CT images pitch by pitch. By utilizing the periodic properties of the parameters of the Katsevich algorithm, our method only needs to calculate these parameters once for all the pitches and so has lower GPU-memory burdens and is very suitable for deep learning. By embedding our implementation into the network, we propose an end-to-end deep network for the high pitch helical CT reconstruction with sparse detectors. Since our network utilizes the features extracted from both sinograms and CT images, it can simultaneously reduce the streak artifacts caused by the sparsity of sinograms and preserve fine details in the CT images. In this paper, we first present an arc based algorithm for fan-beam computed tomography (CT) reconstruction via applying Katsevich’s helical CT formula to 2D fan-beam CT reconstruction. Then, we propose a new weighting function to deal with the redundant projection data. By extending the weighted arc based fan-beam algorithm to circle cone-beam geometry, we also obtain a new FDK-similar algorithm for circle cone-beam CT reconstruction. Experiments show that our methods can obtain higher PSNR and SSIM compared to the Parker-weighted conventional fan-beam algorithm and the FDK algorithm for super-short-scan trajectories.
