Polarization imaging techniques have been extensively employed in biomedical studies and clinical applications. As a comprehensive polarization representation, the Mueller matrix (MM) can provide abundant polarization-related information of biomedical samples. For quantitative information acquisition, groups of polarization basic parameters (PBPs) have been obtained through MM analysis and demonstrated as effective structural characterization tools of tissue samples. Recently, MM polarimetric endoscopy has shown great clinical diagnostic potential. For in-vivo polarimetry such as gastrointestinal MM endoscopy of human internal organ cavities, the complicated undulating tissue surface geometry delivers an inescapable occurrence of oblique incidence, which induces a prominent aberration to backscattering tissue polarimetry. Thus, quantitatively analyzing and reducing the polarimetric aberration induced by oblique incidence are crucial for in-vivo precision MM endoscopy. In this study, we quantitatively analyze the polarimetric aberration induced by tissue surface geometry on PBPs. A correlation heatmap is obtained as applicable criteria to select appropriate incident angle for different PBPs. Based on the analyzing results, we propose two aberration correction strategies of parameter selection and azimuth rotation, which are suitable for tissue samples with randomly and well-aligned fiber textures, respectively. Both strategies are demonstrated to be effective in the ex-vivo human gastric muscularis tissue experiment. The findings presented in this study can be useful to provide accurate polarization imaging results, widely applied on in-vivo polarimetric endoscopy for tissues with complicated surface topography. © 2024 SPIE.

In this paper, we present a consistency analysis for focal stack-based light field reconstruction. A pre-calibrated light field camera is used to construct the metric mapping relationship in image-object space and the reference light field, based on which light fields are reconstructed and quantitatively analyzed. Sequentially, a consistent light field reconstruction method is proposed. Image-object space transformation is established through camera calibration and image distortion is corrected simultaneously in the focal scanning space. The image stack can then be uniformly converted from image space to object space for consistent light field reconstruction, which can finally realize depth measurement in the focal scanning space. © 2025 SPIE.

Phase retrieval algorithms, such as the Wirtinger Flow (WF) algorithm, are widely used in various fields. As a non-convex optimization algorithm for phase retrieval, WF is commonly employed in the reconstruction of holograms in holographic image projection. These types of algorithms typically involve two stages: an initialization stage and an iterative optimization stage. In the initialization stage, an initial value is provided, and a spectral method is used to calculate an approximate solution as the initial guess. The iterative optimization stage then utilizes the Wirtinger gradient to iteratively compute and converge the initial guess to a nearby real solution, thereby obtaining the global optimal solution. However, due to the random nature of the initial values, the computed results often exhibit significant instability. To address this issue, this paper proposes an approach based on a quadratic distribution for improving the stability of the results. In the initialization stage, the initial value is set as the quadratic distribution initial value. Then, the spectral method is applied again to calculate the initial guess. Since the quadratic distribution initial value is artificially assigned, it enhances the stability of the computed results. To validate this method, the paper applies the quadratic distribution initial value to both the initialization stage of the WF algorithm and the Truncated Amplitude Flow (TAF) algorithm. A comparison is made between the results obtained using random initial value and those obtained using the quadratic distribution initial values. The results demonstrate that compared to random initial values, the quadratic distribution initial values can achieve faster and equally accurate computation results with higher stability. Finally, this method is applied to simulation experiments of in-line digital holography, and the reconstruction results from the experiments further confirm the effectiveness of our approach. © 2023 SPIE.

On May 21,2023,the Macao Science Satellite-1B(MSS-1B),a low-inclination,low-latitude,and high-precision scientific exploration satellite for geomagnetic fields and space environments,was successfully *** solar X-ray detector(SXD),one of the two major scientific payloads onboard the MSS-1B,has obtained a large amount of solar X-ray radiation data,which reveals the distribution law of the magnetic field in the low Earth orbit,as well as the coupling law of the Earth's magnetic field and the solar radiation and energy particle ***,the overall design of the multi-detection-unit,broad-energy-range,small-volume,and low-power SXD was implemented to achieve the scientific objectives of the ***,the technical indicators of the instrument were decomposed into various components,and the key technologies,such as collimator,processing circuit,thermal,and payload dataset designs,were ***,the backgrounds,including electronic noise,cosmic diffuse X-ray background,and high-energy background in the Earth's radiation belts in and out of the field of view,were analyzed for the ***,the ground calibrations of the energy response,detection efficiency,and temperature-dependent peak drift of the SXD flight model were ***,the in-orbit temperature,energy spectrum data,background,and solar flare process observation of the instrument in the in-orbit test stage are presented,verifying the instrument design,analysis,and ground calibration,providing a foundation for obtaining accurate solar X-ray radiation data,and achieving the scientific objectives of the satellite.

A new electronic speckle pattern interferometry method is proposed to realize in situ deformation *** feature of the method is the combination of a high-speed camera and multiple laser Doppler vibrometers(LDVs)for synchronous *** high-speed camera is used to record and select effective interferograms,while the LDVs are used to measure the rigid body displacement caused by vibrations.A series of effective interferograms with known shifted phase values are obtained to calculate the deformation *** experimental results show that the method performs well in measuring static and dynamic deformations with high accuracy in vibrating environments.

Optical dynamic measurements are widely used for non-contact vibration,continuous deformation,or moving *** measurement techniques were developed for different deformation *** paper reviews three types of technique for different measurement ranges:interferometric techniques for deformation or vibration(nanometer to submillimeter amplitude)whose measurement accuracies rely on phase extraction of interferometric signal;imaging based techniques for deformation or vibration(micrometer to centimeter amplitude)with the aid of moire,structured light,and man-made speckles,whose sensitivities is from 1/100 to 1/10 pixel;and videometrics for large deformation or movement detection(greater than centimeter amplitude).Many research groups have improved measurement capabilities for these three techniques to meet particular industrial application requirements.

Resonantly driven nonlinear dynamics of soliton molecules in ultrafast fiber lasers

Recent years have seen significant advances in the study of dissipative soliton molecules in ultrafast lasers, driven by their remarkable connections to a wide range of physical systems. However, understanding and controlling the underlying physics of soliton molecules remain elusive due to the absence of a universal physical model that adequately describes intramolecular motion. We demonstrate that resonant excitation generates breather soliton molecules, with their resonance susceptibility exhibiting high amplitude-driven operations that can be well understood within the framework of the Duffing model. Harnessing powerful experiment techniques and detailed numerical simulations, we reveal the fundamental resonant mode within intrapulse separation constrained to the 100 fs level as well as the presence of the subharmonic and overtones. Additionally, we observe chaotic dynamics arising from the multiple-frequency nonlinear interactions in a strongly dissipative regime. Our work provides a perspective on the complex interactions of dissipative optical solitons through the lens of nonlinear physics. This approach offers a simple test bed for complex nonlinear physics research, with ultrafine scanning of temporal separations of ultrashort laser pulses demonstrating significant potential for applications requiring high detection sensitivity.

A Novel Hybrid Transformer-Based Framework for Solar Irradiance Forecasting under Incomplete Data Scenarios

Accurate prediction of solar irradiance is crucial for the effective utilization of solar energy. However, in real-world scenarios, complex irradiance patterns and prevalent incomplete data pose challenges to precise forecasting, resulting in additional uncertainties and instability. To address these issues, this study proposes a novel irradiance forecasting model that integrates a Mask-Transformer data imputation module and a prediction module centered around the typical patterns representation mechanism. The Mask-Transformer leverages a mask modeling mechanism to model the context of missing data, facilitating accurate estimation of missing values and reducing noise and uncertainty in the input data. The typical patterns representation mechanism comprises a series decomposition module and a feature fusion module, providing the module with the capability to mitigate nonlinearity and nonstationarity in solar irradiance data. This enhancement leads to improved short-term forecasting performance while maintaining long-term forecasting capabilities. Experimental results on two datasets demonstrate that the proposed model exhibits sufficient robustness and accuracy, making it effective in scenarios with incomplete data. © 2005-2012 IEEE.
