This paper presents an efficient hardware prototype for network coding (NC). First, a packet synchronization mechanism is introduced to settle the problem of packet arriving mismatch between different incoming channels. Then a high-speed lookup-table-based circuit is designed to perform dot product over Galois Field, which forms the basic calculation unit of NC operation. Taking the speed advantage of FPGA hardware, this prototype is able to perform network coding operations within several hundred nanoseconds. Thus further studies and emulations on NC are able to be carried out upon this platform in the real network scenario.

Query-oriented relevance, information richness and novelty are important requirements in query-focused summarization, which, to a considerable extent, determine the summary quality. Previous work either rarely took into account all above demands simultaneously or dealt with part of them in the dynamic process of choosing sentences to generate a summary. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that integrates all these requirements skillfully by treating them as sentence features, making that the finally generated summary could fully reflect the combinational effect of these properties. Experimental results on the DUC2005 and DUC2006 datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. © 2012 ACM.

In order to ensure high quality of service (QoS) for Next Generation Network (NGN), we construct an innovative Load-Balanced Multipath Self-routing Switching Structure which consists of the same two multipath self-routing fabrics. The result of simulation is inspiring for achieving 100% throughput and no delay or jitter. For this reason, we start on the implementation on an Altera StratixIV FPGA. And the whole FPGA system is designed into two collab.rative components: the UDP system and the register system. With two algorithms around input and output two stages, incoming traffic is transformed into uniformity and then to their final destinations. During the later period debugging, software simulation platform and automated test platform are built, which contribute to our work very much. At last, we carry out several experiments to test and verify our system. The report of the test result accords with what we expected.

This paper presents a practical and general coder and decoder of network coding (NC) with HDL (Hardware Description Language) logic for wire-speed nodes in multisource multicast networks. The NC coders apply random linear network coding (RLNC) and the decoders recover the original packets by Cramer's rule. All these mathematical operations are carried out in the Galois Field (2 8). The structures and algorithms of NC coder and decoder were designed in detail and implemented in HDL with NetFPGA boards provided by Stanford University. Comparing with traditional stored-and-forward mechanism, network emulations showed that networks with wire-speed NC coder and decoder nodes could achieve the capacity bound of max-flow min-cut theorem in case of bottlenecks, and the end-to-end delay was guaranteed on a small constant. © 2011 IEEE.

Ensuring high quality of service (QoS) of multicast video stream over next generation network is a challenging issue, and how to implement the wire-speed multicast with hardware logical support in the network nodes of every hierarchy is a key solution to achieve high QoS multicast. Currently, the multicast packets are processed in this way, in which they are copied and then scheduled by ports, lastly, sent respectively. But this approach cannot ensure high QoS in realtime applications. Moreover, the traditional hardware solutions do not possess excellent large-scale scalab.lity owning to their own bottlenecks. In this project, we have constructed a wire-speed multicast switching structure based on Multipath Self-routing Switching Structure, and implemented it on a Stratix IV FPGA chip. Additionally, we have designed the signaling system and control mechanism to support the process of self-routing and wire-speed fan-out copy of multicast packets. © (2013) Trans tech.Publications, Switzerland.

In order to ensure high quality of service for Next Generation Network, we focus our study on the Wide-Sense Circuit proposed in Flexible Architecture of Reconfigurable Infrastructure. First we construct the functional structure of Wide-Sense Circuit and then explore the switching mechanism and module for it, which is called the Multipath Self-routing Switching Mechanism. Its detailed working process includes traffic classification, establishment and adjustment of Wide-Sense Circuit and data forwarding three parts. For underlying data forwarding, we introduce an innovative Load-Balanced Multipath Self-routing Switching Architecture and start on the implementation on an Altera StratixIV FPGA. The inspiring test results prove that our theory and practiceguarantee the high communication transmission quality for Wide-Sense Circuit. © Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2014.

With the prevalence of web-based learning, the application of concept mapping, as a powerful diagnostic and instructional tool, has been widely exploited in both education and computer science. In recent years, several methods have been presented toautomatically construct concept map that achieved encouraging results, while ignoring some critical issues when applied in actual E-learning system. In this paper,we propose a practical approach for constructing concept map,which is adapted tothe dynamic character of a real ***, we apply fuzzy set theory and fuzzy reasoning basis on fuzzy rules for similarity degree between twoconcepts, tofind direct prerequisite relationship among concepts. It provides a useful way toimprove accuracy and reduce complexity of the concept map.

Domain Generalization for Activity Recognition via Adaptive Feature Fusion

Human activity recognition requires the efforts to build a generalizable model using the training datasets with the hope to achieve good performance in test datasets. However, in real applications, the training and testing datasets may have totally different distributions due to various reasons such as different body shapes, acting styles, and habits, damaging the model's generalization performance. While such a distribution gap can be reduced by existing domain adaptation approaches, they typically assume that the test data can be accessed in the training stage, which is not realistic. In this paper, we consider a more practical and challenging scenario: domain-generalized activity recognition (DGAR) where the test dataset cannot be accessed during training. To this end, we propose Adaptive Feature Fusion for Activity Recognition (AFFAR), a domain generalization approach that learns to fuse the domain-invariant and domain-specific representations to improve the model's generalization performance. AFFAR takes the best of both worlds where domain-invariant representations enhance the transferability across domains and domain-specific representations leverage the model discrimination power from each domain. Extensive experiments on three public HAR datasets show its effectiveness. Furthermore, we apply AFFAR to a real application, i.e., the diagnosis of Children's Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which also demonstrates the superiority of our approach. © 2022, CC BY.

In distributed storage systems, a data file is encoded and distributed to storage nodes, such that the data file can be recovered from some subsets of the nodes. Upon the failure of a storage node, we want to repair it efficiently by contacting and downloading some encoded bits from a small number of surviving nodes. Using projective-geometric self-repairing codes (PSRC), proposed by Oggier and Datta, one can repair a failed node by contacting only two nodes. However, in their construction, the number of storage nodes in the storage system is a large number, and thus the storage efficiency is low. In this paper, we investigate how to be more flexible in the number of storage nodes. The proposed code in this paper is called general projective geometric self-repairing codes (GPSRC). GPSRC reduces high redundancy of PSRC, while retains the basic property of PSRC. We present some methods for repairing a failed node, in which the number of contacted surviving nodes is flexible. These repairing methods provide tradeoff between repair-degree and repair-bandwidth.

A novel framework of online network coding for multicast switches with constrained buffers

Network coding is able to address output conflicts when fanout splitting is allowed for multicast switching. Hence, it successfully achieves a larger rate region than non-coding approaches in crossbar switches. However, network coding requires large coding buffers and a high computational cost on encoding and decoding. In this paper, we propose a novel Online Network Coding framework called Online NC for multicast switches, which is adaptive to constrained buffers. Moreover, it enjoys a much lower decoding complexity O(n ²) by a Vandermonde matrix based approach, as compared to conventional randomized network coding O(n ³). Our approach realizes online coding with one coding algorithm that synchronizes buffering and coding. Therefore, we significantly reduce requirements on buffer space, while also sustaining high throughputs.
