A novel architecture of multi-gpu computing card

AThe data transmission between GPUS in the existing multi_GPU computing card is often through PCIE which is in relative low speed, so the PCIE has become bottleneck of Overall performance. A novel architecture of multi_GPU computing card have been proposed in this paper: A multi-channel memory which have multiple interfaces is added, including one common interface shared by different GPUs, which is connected with a FPGA arbitration circuit and several other interfaces connected with dedicated GPUs frame buffer independently, and this multi-channel memory is called "global shared memory". The result of a simulation of accelerating computer tomography algebraic reconstruction on multi-GPU demonstrates effectiveness of this approach. © 2013 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.

Playout buffering is an effective method to combat the delay jitter problems in VoIP systems by making a tradeoff between delay and loss. To adjust the playout buffer dynamically and achieve better speech quality, an adaptive playout buffer algorithm based on speech quality prediction is proposed. This algorithm models the delay with a Weibull distribution and formulates an online loss model of the playout buffer. It predicts the instantaneous speech quality under burst packet loss condition based on the E-Model method. Then it can adaptively find the optimal setting for the playout buffer by maximizing the predicted value of the perceived speech quality. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms existing algorithms and improves the speech quality of VoIP systems effectively. © Springer Science+Business media, LLC 2012.

In this paper, a new method is proposed to estimate crowd density based on binocular vision: according to the average parallax of the object in the two camera plane, first we calculate the correction parameters of monitoring location, then we fit the correction function based on the result of the correction parameters of the same target objects in different locations. By taking foreground pixels, foreground edge pixels of image as features of crowd density estimation, we could perform parameter correction. Experiments show that by comparing with existing methods, this method is effective in reducing the projective deformity and can improve the effectiveness of the features greatly. So it could enhance the accuracy of the estimation of population density. © 2012 IEEE.

Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is a kind of typical NP problem and has been extensively researched in combinatorial optimization. For solving it more effectively, candidate set is used in many algorithms in order to limit the selecting range when choosing next city to move, such as in Ant Systems, or to initialize a local optimum solution, such as in Lin-Kernighan Heuristic (LKH) algorithm. A novel simple method for generating candidate set is proposed in this paper and applied into MAX-MIN Ant System (MMAS) for symmetric TSP problem. Experimental results show that it has better performance than other Ant Systems including MMAS. Moreover, this method can be used in other algorithms for symmetric TSP problem. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

This paper presents a discrete-time neural network with a switching structure to solve a general quadratic programming problem in real time. Compared with existing ones for solving quadratic programming problems, the proposed neural network model has a simple architecture and uses a limited number of neurons to solve the problem, irrespective of the dimension of the decision variables or the number of constraints. The global convergence of the model is proven using contraction theory. Simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Channel estimation is an important issue in any OFDM system for demodulation and decoding. In this paper, the channel estimation based on LS(Least-squares Estimation) in IEEE Std.802.16d/e is studied to resolve the error floor for SUI-5 channel. Since the pilot allocation is solid, we can't modify it exhaustively. So we combine the preamble and pilot carrier to resolve the problem. Here we introduce preamble time-domain LS channel estimation algorithm based on short preamble and pilot for consult. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations show that if we select channel estimation algorithm properly, combing preamble and pilot can improve the performance. We also conclude that pilot only scheme exits error floor when the coherent bandwidth of channel is narrow, and preamble only scheme can decrease the error floor drastically when the coherent bandwidth of channel is narrow, however it can't trace the fast fading channel.

Video description is a critical component in video streaming media processing and transmission. Different video data have different levels of contribution to the overall video presentation quality at the receiver side. on the premise of related work, video scene classification, visual sensitive regions(VSR) extraction and MGS(Medium Grain Scalability) encoding, a new approach to progressive description of Video Streaming media(VSM) based on subjective perception is proposed in this paper. Frames importance according to coding key parameters and slice data importance are determined Firstly. Then VSR and important data protection are jointly considered, a new approach to progressive description of VSM adapted to network bandwidth and quality scalability is proposed. Applying MGS encoding, experimental study is performed on Mobile IP testing platform, the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach to progressive description of VSM could effectively protect video important data and significantly improve the video presentation quality. © 2011 IEEE.

Due to today's diverse resource constraints and user preferences, video adaptation attracts more and more research interests. A video adaptation framework for scalable video coding(SVC) is proposed in this paper. The content description is acquired off-line, and then a bitstream syntax description is automatic created by a format-specific parser. Finally, video adaptation is implemented based on bitstream analysis and video content description. Experiments show that the proposed framework can acquire output video stream quickly and assure visual quality without loss of coding efficiency. © 2011 IEEE.
