The continuous alteration of living landscape in earth due to the greatest impact of information technology has converted the whole earth into a small digital village. That means anyone could share information in any form with any other person residing anywhere in the earth. With the availability of information and communication technology like cloud computing, heterogeneous networking, crowd sensing, web services and data mining, anywhere and anytime information sharing is possible, but this will bring out lot of challenges like incompatibility in standards, data portability, data aggregation, data dissemination, differential context and communication overhead. The ICT has changed many aspects of human lifestyle, work places and living spaces. However, there is one sector namely agriculture which has been deprived of the real advantages of ICT. Hence, there exists a digital divide between farming industry and other industries. Farming industry consumes large amount of natural resources such as water, energy and fertilizers that could escalate issues such as global warming, soil degradation and depletion of ground water to the next level. To reduce the global warming effect, farming industry needs to be integrated with relevant technologies. This paper proposes ubiquitous context oriented middleware architecture for precision agriculture (LA-COMPa) to solve major issues such as waste of water, improper application of fertilizer, choice of wrong crops and season, poor yield and lack of marketing. © 2015 IEEE.

A fault-tolerant routing system is highly needed in autonomous unmanned vehicle (AUxV)-based networks because of the various constraints due to adversarial situations present in the environment of AUxVs. Critical consequences might be resulting even with a minor fault in the system software/hardware in these types of systems due to the involved hazard of their applications such as search and rescue, threat surveillance, and chemical and biohazard sampling. The architecture, capability, application, and power of the internal systems are the parameters that vary among the AUxV network member nodes. Fault-tolerant system design is a key aspect for AUxVs, and heterogeneity is to be considered while designing the fault-tolerant systems' AUxVs. This paper describes an approach to fault-tolerant AUxV networks by designing a routing method. The proposed algorithm for AUxVs is based on the cross-layer design and the learning automata (LA), referred as Unmanned Vehicle Network with LA-based Routing using Cross-Layer Design (ULARC). The optimal path between the source and the destination is obtained using the theory of LA. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is proved by the proof of convergence and is shown in the Appendix. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper intends to solve palm fruit grading using the proposed prototype and Palm fruit ripeness Unified Modeling Language diagrams. In this paper the issues of correct harvesting prediction, categorizing palm fruits and distinguishing Ripe and Overripe fruit is solved suing Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams. UML diagrams designed and shown in the paper helped to model and implement the palm fruit harvester algorithm. The proposed algorithm is implemented in Visual C++ and results are tested with the live data collected from field and farmers. This research will resolve the issue of manual grading thereby helping farmers in producing good quality oil production and also will help researchers to use the prototype for implementation.

With the rapid advancement in technology it is easy to take pictures, and easier still to share them with the world at large. In this digital age the image data we have has grown manifold over the past few years. Digital Cameras have allowed the capturing and storing of large number of images highly inexpensive and hence we can't go on a trip without taking several hundreds of photographs. We take repeated shots till we find the perfect one. As a result, in a collection of images we end up having recurring and similar images which we would like to omit. Manually going through such a huge collection and picking out the best images is a highly laborious task. This paper deals with devising a way of summarizing a given collection of photographs to represent a distinct set of representative images. This would save the users a lot of effort while allowing the selection of the best images of the set which also represent the entire set. Here we employ a modified Latent Dirichlet Allocation technique, a generative probabilistic model, to partition the images from a 'Bag of words' representation created using Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) vectors and then clustering these vectors into bins. We validate the results using subjective analysis based on 3 metrics by the people providing the image collection and also by a more general set of people.

The exponential growth in mobile computing technology has resulted in the form of newer mobile devices with variable features and capabilities. Hence to maximise the utilisation of such devices, the mobile applications also need to be designed with capabilities to address the real-time as well as non-real-time services requirements using virtualization and distributed computing techniques. The prime disadvantage of conventional networks is fixed and inflexible in their operation. Due to their hierarchical architecture, traditional networks are unable to meet the future network requirements such as cloud services and big data analysis that requires classified network traffics based on user demands. Hence, the future network infrastructure has to fulfil few critical criteria such as dynamicity, scalability, adaptability, better quality of service in terms of improved bandwidth and reduced latency. But, the major factor such as node addressing at lower layers could be a critical issue which affects the above mentioned criteria equally. This paper presents a detailed analysis with respect to the consequences of node addressing issues in current networking standards. This paper also suggest some approaches to satisfy the outcomes such as dynamicity, scalability, adaptability and better quality of services for next generation network infrastructures.

There is a plethora of silicon options available for implementing the various functions of a transmitter, but FPGAs are an attractive alternative for many of these tasks due to performance, power consumption and flexibility. This paper presents a complete hardware architecture for transmitter which is then synthesized and mapped on the Spartan 3E FPGA kit. The transmitter carries out data formatting, NRZ line encoding, baseband modulation, pulse shaping and passband modulation. A ROM based raised cosine filter is designed to mitigate the effects of Inter-symbol Interference. Passband modulation is accomplished by designing hardware using Direct Digital Synthesizer. A dedicated module to introduce channel imperfections is also designed to study the behavior of transmitter on practical interfaces. The implemented sub-system is particularly suited for use in a typical WiMAX environment or any other SDR based system that performs downstream digital signal processing.

Microcontrollers are a major bottleneck in operations that involve graphic handling. They are slow and do not contain sufficient memory to effectively provide high quality graphics for embedded applications. This paper addresses the problem by designing a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU). The architecture of proposed GPU is designed, then described using Verilog HDL and successfully mapped on Xilinx Spartan 3E board. Graphic functions initiate from host device, and instructions are offloaded to the GPU over serial interface. On the GPU side, received instruction is parsed, identified and the frame buffer is updated accordingly. The GPU provides pixel writing, line drawing, rectangle fill and text writing capabilities. The VGA interface of the FPGA board is used to show the frame buffer on a monitor. The results of this scheme open a new approach in designing embedded systems where co-processor GPU can assist a slow microcontroller with graphic instructions.

In this paper we presented comparative analysis of sequential and parallel MPI application with dynamic instrumentation based Pin tool that can be used to assist in performance analysis of various parallel algorithms and computer software programs. We discussed various profiling and optimization tools apart from Pin and dynamic instrumentation techniques through which code can be analyzed, compared and monitored. A brief comparison of the cache analysis is also discussed with some considerations in order to highlight the approaches and technologies used by pin tool to achieve the optimum performance of an application. © 2013 IEEE.
