This study presents a contactless current traveling wave fault location scheme for a two-terminal overhead transmission line based on a tunnel Magnetoresistive sensor. The proposed method is implemented by installing a tunnel Magnetoresistive sensor array at both ends of the line for current traveling wave measurement. The measured data is transmitted to a remote monitoring unit (RMU) for analysis. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated for different fault situations using an experimental set-up. The proposed exhibited high efficiency for current traveling wave fault location. The results were analyzed for fault location using the differentiator smoother to reduce the time of arrival errors. The proposed scheme is compared with a general traveling wave-based scheme for transmission line fault distance location. In all test cases, the proposed scheme offered very efficient results for all categories of faults with an average relative error of 0.024%. © 2020 IEEE.

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau contains the most abundant clean energy such as hydropower, wind and solar in the world. However, it is very difficult to add overhead transmission lines on the ground due to the complex geographical environment. The large-capacity tunnel cables which is less affected by the earth surface environment, may play an important role on the energy transmission in such area. Based on the cable thermal circuit model, the electrical-magnetic-thermal multiphysics coupling of the cable is modeled in COMSOL Multiphysics. The parameter changes of the material during the temperature rising process, the influence of different ventilation conditions and different current-carrying capacities on the changes of the cable temperature field are quantitatively analyzed. The results show that the proposed model is valid in certain conditions. The research on the current carrying capacity and thermal effect of tunnel cables is of great significance for the transportation and consumption of large-scale clean energy resources.

Wind and solar energy inverter-based resources (IBRs) has been employed extensively with the aim of carbon neutrality. power systems also make extensive use of power electronic converters, leading to interactions between IBRs and with the grid, causing high frequency oscillation (HFO) problems. It damages equipment and jeopardizes the security of the system. To identify HFO components above 100 Hz, this research use Phasor measurement Unit (PMU) instantaneous value data to determine the HFO associated characteristics. To reduce the influence of spectral leakage and the fence effect, as well as to improve the identification accuracy of the related parameters, this paper adopts the RV self-convolutional window based Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and the Hanning double-window based all-phase Fast Fourier Transform (apFFT) hybrid algorithm to identify the HFO modal parameters. We take into account the identification accuracy in complex cases, such as non-nominal frequencies, with noise effects and multiple HFO modes. The simulation results show that the proposed method has high identification bandwidth, accuracy and strong flexibility. © 2024 IEEE.

To realize the dual carbon policy, the goal of energy saving, and emission reduction, it is important to develop ways to better promote the low carbon economic operation of energy systems. Therefore, this research proposes an optimal operation strategy considering the electric-gas-cooling-heat demand response. Considering the demand response of each participant, an integrated energy system model with photovoltaic, wind energy, and traditional grid as energy supply. Also, electric energy, natural gas, cooling, and heating subsystems with co-production are established. With minimizing the overall system operation cost and optimizing environmental protection, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the multi-constrained objective optimization problem. Finally, the optimized model is tested. The results from this study show that the energy system under cogeneration can find a balance between economy and environmental friendliness, and provide a reference for the subsequent energy supply configuration. © 2022 IEEE.

The problem of diagnosing the actuator faults and sensor faults of linear system with the methods of fault detection and isolation (FDI) technology and optimal fault-tolerant observers is addressed. The measurable outputs used to reconstruct states for the system carry the fault information, which may affect the performance of the system state estimation. In this paper, by comparing the measurable outputs, reliable outputs without fault is selected as the input of the reconstructed system. Then reduced order optimal fault-tolerant observers are used to track the system states. Based on the FDI technology, residual observers are designed to achieve the fault detection for the linear system. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of FDI technology and optimal fault-tolerant observers method used in fault detection and isolation.

The greenhouse effect formed by the massive emission of carbon dioxide has caused serious harm to the Earth's environment, in which the power sector constitutes one of the primary contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing carbon emissions from electricity plays a pivotal role in minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the ecological, economic, and social impacts of climate change, while carbon emission prediction provides a valuable point of reference for the formulation of policies to reduce carbon emissions from electricity. The article provides a detailed review of research results on deep learning-based carbon emission prediction. Firstly, the main neural networks applied in the domain of carbon emission forecasting at home and abroad, as well as the models combining other methods and neural networks, are introduced, and the main roles of different methods, when combined with neural networks, are discussed. Secondly, neural networks were used to predict electricity carbon emissions, and the performance of different models on carbon emissions was compared. Finally, the application of neural networks in the realm of the prediction of carbon emissions is summarized, and future research directions are discussed. The article provides a reference for researchers to understand the research dynamics and development trend of deep learning in the realm of electricity carbon emission forecasting.

An anti mode mixing emd algorithm for detecting the characteristics of low frequency oscillations in power system

The dynamics of modern interconnected power system is characterized by low frequency oscillations (LFOs) which are produced as results of various disturbances such as changes in loads, tripping of lines, faults, and other discrete events. A data driven empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method is applied to the detection of low frequency oscillation modes from disturbed trajectory with its strong non-stationary signal processing capability, but the mode mixing phenomenon serious impact on the analysis credibility and accuracy of EMD method. In this paper, an anti mode mixing EMD composite algorithm is proposed for detecting the characteristics of LFOs in power system. First, the improved frequency heterodyne method is proposed to increase the spectral distance between adjacent mode components in order to meet the octave resolution requirements. Second, the wavelet singularity detection technology is proposed to determine the adaptive sliding analysis window for each mode, in which there implements the intermittency mixed modes separation and their nonstationary parameters identification. Finally, the analysis result of interconnected grid test case verify that the proposed algorithm can effectively overcome the impact of the mode mixing existed in EMD and improve the characteristics detection accuracy of LFOs characteristics. © 2013 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.

An optimized dynamic state estimation method for voltage source converter under cyber-attacks

The measured data of the power system with voltage source converter (VSC) depending on data communication network, are monitored and analyzed by Dynamic state estimation (DSE), which can provide predictive data to control system. However, information communication technology may contain unknown risks and be vulnerable to cyber-attacks, resulting in inaccurate predictions of DSE. For example, the communication network of wide area measurement system (WAMS) will provide wrong data to DSE after being attacked. Thus, in this paper, an optimized dynamic state estimation method for voltage source converter considering cyber-attack is proposed. First, in order to consider more dynamic characteristics of VSC and provide a more complete model for DSE, the dynamic model of VSC which is affected by cyber-attacks is derived. Then, base on the model which is linearized around an equilibrium point, the Kalman filter considering anomalous events caused by false data injection attack (FDIA) is improved to obtain the optimal state estimated value. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method and the accuracy of prediction values, a simulation has been carried out on a single-VSC infinite-bus power system. The simulation results show that the proposed method can predict dynamic state values effectively and the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) is around 4.6 x 10-5 in the power system with VSC considering cyber-attack.(c) 2022 The Author(s). Online monitoring of power devices' state is a very important part of the Smart Grid (SM) building plan. Icing on the overhead transmission lines cause great accidents and vast economic loss. In China, icing monitoring technology and relative research is a hot point. The current operating icing monitoring systems based on electrical measurement do not work efficiently because it cannot solve the problem of electromagnetic interference with power supply. The fiber optic sensors, with light as the measurement media, solve those problems perfectly. In this paper, an icing monitoring system based on Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors is proposed. The system architecture design, the sensors fixing methods, and the development of the monitoring software, are introduced in detail.

power systems are leading towards a transition with the involvement of a huge number of distributed energy resources to produce clean energy. Different concerns including energy crisis, polluted environment due to carbon emission, and economic issues have produced the urge in passive consumers to act as prosumers by installing distributed energy resources and with the use of information and communication technologies, the grid has become more reliable as smart grid. Energy generated from these distributed energy resources along with the use of energy storage systems provide saving to prosumers. In this study, we have focused on the impact of rooftop solar panels, energy storage system, and exchange of power with the grid and consumer through the use of energy management system to exchange information by end-users. This shows significant savings to the prosumer and consumer in term of the cost when the locally generated power is used. Prosumer can trade with the grid, consumer, and uses self-generated power to reduce the operational cost.
