This study presents a contactless current traveling wave fault location scheme for a two-terminal overhead transmission line based on a tunnel Magnetoresistive sensor. The proposed method is implemented by installing a tunnel Magnetoresistive sensor array at both ends of the line for current traveling wave measurement. The measured data is transmitted to a remote monitoring unit (RMU) for analysis. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated for different fault situations using an experimental set-up. The proposed exhibited high efficiency for current traveling wave fault location. The results were analyzed for fault location using the differentiator smoother to reduce the time of arrival errors. The proposed scheme is compared with a general traveling wave-based scheme for transmission line fault distance location. In all test cases, the proposed scheme offered very efficient results for all categories of faults with an average relative error of 0.024%.

To realize the economic optimization dispatch of PSMG (Photovoltaic Storage Micro-grid), considering the stochastic influence of multiple uncertainties, this study formulates a day-ahead optimal dispatching strategy of PSMG with the minimum comprehensive operating cost as the objective function. Firstly, the source-load uncertainty is dealt with by scenario generation using the Monte Carlo method and k-means clustering algorithm. Then the peak shaving ability of the system is enhanced by the introduction of flexible loads, and the scheduling flexibility of the photovoltaic storage system is increased by the integrated demand response increases the scheduling flexibility of the photovoltaic storage system. Finally, simulation results show that the scheduling scheme can prompt the source-load to participate in peak shaving and valley filling at the same time, increase the new energy consumption capacity of the photovoltaic storage micro-grid, and effectively improve the economic and social benefits of the micro-grid.

A rapid warning method for wildfire occurrences along the transmission corridor driven by power system monitoring data

This paper focuses on the problems of frequent wildfire occurrences along the transmission corridor and the lack of accurate and timely monitoring means for early warnings. Furthermore, this paper evaluates the rapid warning method for wildfire occurrences along the transmission corridor driven by power system monitoring data. First, we established the relationship between the historical data of wildfires along the transmission corridor and the operating state information of a power grid based on the Apriori association rule algorithm;the characteristic signals of the transmission line when wildfires occur were mined. Second, based on the characteristics of the time distribution of wildfire occurrences along the transmission corridor, a nonlinear regression model was created to further improve the prediction accuracy. Finally, by combining the characteristic signals and time distribution characteristics, we developed an early warning method. This method not only addresses the challenges faced by meteorological satellite remote sensors caused by the weather, the long transit time interval, and the high cost of adding sensors, but it also realizes the remote and rapid early warning of wildfires along the transmission corridor. Finally, a case study of practical data of a certain area in southwest China is used to verify the proposed method. The results show the high accuracy and timeliness of the proposed method.

With the polynomial vector space decomposition by using Normal Form theory, the normalized analytical solutions of modal resonance are derived, which solves that the traditional Normal Form solution cannot be easily obtained under resonant condition. Based on the solution, from the viewpoint of whether the modal interaction couples and resonates or not, the nonlinear terms are decomposed into four types, i.e., uncoupled nonresonant terms, coupled nonresonant terms, uncoupled resonant terms and coupled resonant terms. The corresponding modes are categorized into 5 types, i.e., single modes, uncoupled nonresonant modes, coupled nonresonant modes, uncoupled resonant modes and coupled resonant modes. A reduced-order mode reconstruction based on least square method to estimate the coefficients of higher-order interactional modes is proposed. This might be potentially a new approach to cope with the challenge from huge amount of higher-order modes in higher-order nonlinear analysis. Two case studies are presented to analyze the types and reconstructions of the nonlinear modes, 2nd- and 3rd- order terms, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

With the inertia improvement ability, Grid-forming Converter (GFC) can be implemented in large-scale power system to improve instability issues. Although with these advantages, increasing connections of the distributed renewable resource also gives a chance of attack which can be accomplished via supervisory control and data acquisition system by controlling their converters in remote/physical ways. Thus, the objective of this paper is to solve the False Data Injection Attack (FDIA) instability of the GFC renewable integrated system which is barely studied in these years. The mechanism of the adverse effect of attacks on GFC is analyzed by combining its small signal model with the FDIA model. In advance, a novel control strategy considering the power system’s spatial structural features and temporal consistency is proposed to defend against FDIA based on dynamic state estimation. Meanwhile, the adaptive adjustment factor and singular value decomposition are introduced into an improved cubature Kalman filter to deal with the data mutation and matrix error caused by attacks. The simulation on IEEE 30-bus system and full real-time experiment on RT-lab verification test platform are carried out, and the results show that the proposed voltage control strategy has a superior performance to mitigate the impact of FDIA. © 2023, The Authors. According to the theory that wind power prediction error approximatively follows a normal probability distribution, this article introduces a concept of error tolerance rate of wind power prediction, and comes to the relationship between the capacity of energy storage system (ESS) and error tolerance rate. Furtherly, the relationship between the size of the storage capacity and the economic costs, as well as the relationship between the size of storage system capacity and some other factors that may affect the security and stability of grid, are explored. The results can guide to configure an appropriate capacity of the energy storage system under a reasonable error tolerance rate, so to ensure the safety and stability of grid and the economy can be simultaneously optimized to some extent.

One drawback of contactless current measurement by magnetic sensor is that its detected results can be easily affected by the superposition of the external magnetic interference. Damping the effect of the noise is complex and delicate without the knowledge of the interference. The usage of magnetic shielding is one potent way to compensate the shortcoming. However, complete magnetic shielding fails to provide the shielding for the shielding only happens within the material. Therefore, in this paper, a separated double-layer structure with the gap is proposed for large current measurement with strong magnetic noise from random places. The ambition is to keep the targeted magnetic field within the shielding stable even when exposed to strong magnetic interference environment. Parameters of the designed structure are investigated and the validation of the structure is confirmed by finite element analysis method when the magnitude of the current under measurement ranging up to 1000 A. From FEA method, when the interference is at arbitrary places around the conductor, the standard deviation without and with noise is less than 0.13, authenticating the efficacy of this shielding structure.

To achieve the economic operation of a multi-energy micro grid under multiple uncertain environments, this study introduces a novel two-stage robust scheduling approach, encompassing both day-ahead planning and real-time adjustments. First, the multi-energy micro grid day-ahead economic dispatch model is constructed based on the prediction scenarios, and integrated demand response is considered to increase the flexibility of the system. Afterwards, the strategy is adjusted in the real-time phase, considering the uncertainty of energy production and consumption. The Column-and-Constraint Generation algorithm is employed to resolve the above two-stage issues effectively, and the optimal economic operation strategy of the MEMG is obtained. Finally, a case study demonstrates the economy and robustness of the proposed methodology.

To realize the dual carbon policy, the goal of energy saving, and emission reduction, it is important to develop ways to better promote the low carbon economic operation of energy systems. Therefore, this research proposes an optimal operation strategy considering the electric-gas-cooling-heat demand response. Considering the demand response of each participant, an integrated energy system model with photovoltaic, wind energy, and traditional grid as energy supply. Also, electric energy, natural gas, cooling, and heating subsystems with co-production are established. With minimizing the overall system operation cost and optimizing environmental protection, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the multi-constrained objective optimization problem. Finally, the optimized model is tested. The results from this study show that the energy system under cogeneration can find a balance between economy and environmental friendliness, and provide a reference for the subsequent energy supply configuration.

The signal quality of auxiliary system is very important for substation to assure operation in safe conditions, but the external environment like electromagnetic interference, high or low temperature, and equipment aging will directly influence the video signal quality transferred by the auxiliary system, which makes a high demand for the cracking resistance of the auxiliary system device. This paper designs a signal quality simulator for substation auxiliary system and simulates common damage situations in the substation to reproduce the real damage situations in the laboratory environment. The results show that this simulator can provide a research platform to test the capability of anti-interference and data recovery of the auxiliary system and so on.
