Channel geometry and throttling regulation effects on printed circuit Joule-Thomson cryocooler performance

To solve the shortcomings of the current microchannel Joule-Thomson (J-T) cryocooler, such as monotonous channel configurations and limited parallelization, this study integrates printed circuit heat exchanger fabrication technology with distributed throttling refrigeration theory. A distributed J-T effect cryocooler featuring a multi-rectangular microchannel parallel structure was successfully developed. Performance investigations were conducted with the cryocooler as the prototype. By analyzing the thermodynamic parameter evolution of Ar at critical nodes, the weak link of the prototype was identified: the low J-T coefficient μjt at the throttling inlet limits overall efficiency. To resolve this, a dual optimization strategy was proposed. First, topology optimization of the channel form of the counterflow heat exchanger was implemented to enhance precooling. The results show that the airfoil fin channels exhibit superior performance compared to other configurations. When the inlet parameters are 6.0 MPa and 285.0 K, compared with the prototype, the cold-end temperature decreases from 194.9 K to 167.8 K, the J-T efficiency is increased from 49.1 % to 56.1 %. the airfoil geometry intensifies heat transfer, thereby promoting more significant distributed J-T effect and heat transfer coupling in the throttling section, which is the key to improving refrigeration performance. In addition, length ratio optimization between counterflow heat exchanger and throttle was explored. The results show that increasing the length ratio of the throttling channel can effectively suppress the limit velocity of the fluid, thus delaying the occurrence of choked flow. Conversely, reducing this proportion lowers the cold-end temperature. constrained by choked flow limits, the minimum throttling length under the conditions described in this study is 12 mm, achieving a further temperature drop to 136.4 K, with peak J-T efficiency (74.1 %) and heat flux (2.77 W/mm). An intelligent CAD system for Involute cylindrical gear cutting tools is developed by VC++ and SQL server, and it includes four modules, such as user interface, instance query, intelligent gear tool design and database. The intelligent gear tool design is the key to the intelligent CAD system, and it is based on the forward reasoning production system, and as the Intelligent reasoning technology is used for gear tool design, a lots of expert knowledge could be made full use of. The design results by the developed intelligent CAD system are more reasonable than those by a traditional CAD system, and the efficiency and quality of the gear tool design also could be improved. Inverse design is the process of using a certain means of measurement to measure entity or model, and according to the measurements, refactoring physical CAD model through Three-dimensional geometric modeling methods. Basing on the little model, use reverse engineering methods, three-dimensional scanning technology and Raindrop Company produced the inverse engineering software to finish the reverse three-dimensional modeling design of little bear punch. Applying Master CAM to set parameters, simulation run, and automatically generate NC code, in the vertical machining center, complex curved surface NC machining of the model can be finished. The modifications of impeller may show diverse impact on centrifugal pump operating in pump and turbine *** clarify this problem,the hydraulic performance of a low specific speed centrifugal pump operating in both modes was firstly obtained by CFD method and verified by ***,based on the single-factor design method,a series of calculations have been conducted to identify the effects of impeller geometry parameters on the hydraulic performance in different *** variations of head,shaft power and hydraulic efficiency curves with different impeller parameters were *** is found that compared with turbine,the pump shows a more obvious variation of *** outlet angle has positive impact both on the head consumed by pump or generated by *** change of turbine shaft power is apparently smaller than that of pump for different impeller geometry *** the outlet width somewhat changes the turbine shaft *** hydraulic efficiency in both modes shows different variation under different impeller geometric parameters,while the hydraulic efficiency of both modes is reduced with the outlet angle ***,the response amount of hydraulic efficiency caused by certain change of impeller parameters was estimated by sensitivity analysis *** is found that only the appropriate blade number and outlet width can improve the hydraulic performance both in pump and turbine ***,the hydraulic loss,skin friction loss and theoretical analysis were performed to explore the reason of hydraulic performance variation due to different impeller *** change of slip factor,impeller inlet area,impeller outlet area or hydraulic loss results in the change of hydraulic performance in both *** results can be useful for hydraulic performance improvement for both pump and turbine modes through impeller geometry modification.
