Investigation and performance of high niobium contain Ti-Al Alloys: Deformation behaviour and microstructural evolution

Phase transformation and crystal structure variety will influence microstructure evolution and hot deformation behaviour of high niobium containing Ti-Al alloys. These alloys are great attention in research on industrial and medical sectors. The niobium alloys are lightweight and high strength, increasingly popular for automotive engine and chassis components. Three novel Ti-Al based alloys have been developed in present research such as Ti-43Al-6Nb-1Mo-1Cr, Ti-43Al-7Nb-3Mo-2Cr and Ti-43Al-8Nb-3Mo-3Cr niobium alloys were fabricated using a hot isostatic press (HIP). The alloys were heat-treated at 1200 °C temperature for 5 h in the Ar atmosphere. The mechanical properties and flow curves of Ti-Al alloys are studied by varying three different temperatures (800 to 1200 °C) and strain rates (0.1 to 10 s−1) on a servo-controlled universal testing machine. The microstructures of the alloys were analysed using SEM. The results showed an addition of Nb-Mo-Cr particles to Ti-Al increased material strength by 21.36% (Hardness), 32.08% (compressive), 41.37% (splitting tensile) and 39.23% (flexural) more than as-cast alloy. In addition, Nb and Cr with Mo will provide excellent oxidation resistance and mechanical strength for Ti-Al alloys. This study shows a benchmark against compatible alloys and metallic implants. From results, the representation of material is specified as Ti-43Al-8Nb-3Mo-3Cr > Ti-43Al-7Nb-3Mo-2Cr > Ti-43Al-6Nb-1Mo-1Cr. © 2022

Experimental investigation on mechanical, durable and stress–strain behaviour of hybrid reinforced concrete admixed BC soil: a novel use of waste fibers to reduce disposal challenges

Utilizing natural wastes and biomasses has become focused in recent years for engineering construction to meet environmental sustainability requirements, economical energy savings, and growth in design elements. Concrete reinforced with fibers helps to enhance the strength properties. Incorporating fiber reinforcement with black cotton (BC) soil is capable of improving durable properties. It is susceptible to early age concrete due to the blending of hybridization of fiber is an alternative solution. The objective is to find the feasibility of using fibers with and without BC (black cotton) soil and the optimum dosages. In this study, three types of fibers, Masson pine needle (MPNF), polypropylene and basalt fiber were used for the hybridization. Expansive soils consumption mostly poses construction challenges. To overcome this, BC soil is chosen in this work. Various mechanical and durability tests were conducted on the concrete specimens, and for each test, three samples are considered, and average results are determined. Compared with normal concrete, test results determined that splitting tensile strength and impact strength at 28 days increases from 4.8 to 7.4 MPa and 32 to 55 MPa. There is a considerable increase in flexural strength when fibre is incorporated with 2% BC soil, and it is observed as 36–82.34% at 28 days. Beyond 6% of HF with 2% of BC soil results in a reduction of strength. The maximum alkalinity is obtained for hybrid fibre reinforced up to 6% HF with 2% BC soil (HFBCC₂ mix) concrete. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The aim of the present paper is to investigate the radiation absorption and diffusion thermo on unsteady magneto hydrodynamic flow past an infinite vertical permeable moving plate in the presence of thermal radiation, heat absorption and homogenous chemical reaction, subjected to variable suction. The plate is assumed to be embedded in a uniform porous medium and moves with a constant velocity in the flow direction in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The equations governing the flow are transformed into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using perturbation technique. Graphical results for the velocity distribution, temperature distribution and concentration distribution based on the numerical solutions are presented and discussed. Also we discuss the effects of various parameters on the skin-friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer in the form of Nusselt number and rate of mass transfer in the form of Sherwood number at the surface. Velocity and temperature distribution is observed to increase with an increase in radiation absorption and Dufour parameter, whereas it diminishes with the enhancement in magnetic field, heat absorption coefficient, radiation parameter and chemical reaction parameter with respect to velocity, temperature and concentration distributions. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The utilization of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power for the creation of electrical energy has become increasingly prevalent in response to the growing demand for electricity. The incorporation of renewable energy sources into the system is crucial for efficient energy consumption. Directly injecting power from renewable energy sources into the grid is a challenging task. Therefore, the system requires power electronic inverters to serve as a connection between renewable energy sources and the grid or load. This research examines the performance of a 250 KW grid connected to a solar system under three different input source scenarios. The inverter generates a clean sinusoidal voltage of 415 V in three phases, which is then used to supply power to the grid and the three-phase load. This study offers several additional benefits, including reduced switching losses, decreased voltage stress of dv/dt on switches, and improved electromagnetic interference. The MATLAB/Simulink software is used to simulate and evaluate the performance of a 250 KW grid. The accuracy of the results will be confirmed. © 2024 IEEE.

The utilisation of renewable power sources has been more common as a dependable and clean energy source. Two possible alternative sources of energy include renewable energy sources, such as solar energy and wind energy. The audit para monitoring system (APMS) and the versatile energy spectral algorithm (VESA) control based hybrid system that has been discussed have been built with the support of the MATLAB simulation 2017b software. These characteristics include switching losses, electromagnetic interference, efficiency, power factor, and total harmonic distortion. In the proposed system, the average voltage may be generated with a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 4.73% and a switching loss of 3.8%. The proposed VESA was able to produce outcomes that were better. A total harmonic distortion (THD) of 4.09% and a switching loss of around 3.5% are both characteristics of the voltage that it generates. Copyright © 2025 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Composites are environmentally friendly materials made from natural fibers that have lightweight properties and improve the performance of synthetic parts. Medical waste has been identified as one of the biggest challenges recently in India due to COVID-19. More than 70% of medical waste is considered non-hazardous waste, obtained from crushing used surgical face mask (SFM) and surgical gloves (SG) as reinforcement materials chosen in this study. The research aim is to increase the strength and minimize the cost of production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) matrix by employing hybrid waste fibers as particle reinforcement particles. Five fiber composites of 3% to 12% weight fractions of hybrid fiber (Kevlar Fiber/Glass fiber) and a constant 10% medical waste were fabricated using an injection moulding process to regulate the polymer structure and determine its thermal conductivity. Adding fibers improved mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural, and impact strength. TGA and thermal conductivity were analyzed. Tribological characteristics like a specific wear rate and coefficient of friction were conducted. Morphology is used to identify material behaviour by applying different weight fractions. Adding 9% (KF/GF) and 10% (SFM/SG) particles improves the wear and mechanical properties of the hybrid composite by 52%, respectively. Adding medical and fiber waste particles will improve the interfacial bonding between the matrix material and fillers. It is widely used as a leaf spring in ballistic and automobile applications suspension. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Smart grids offer promising opportunities for energy efficiency but raise concerns about data privacy and transparency. This paper presents a new framework for Secure and Auditable Private Data Sharing designed specifically for smart grids, with a focus on its functionality as a password manager. By utilizing smart contracts and blockchain technology, the framework creates explicit guidelines for data usage that guarantee clear oversight of data access and intended uses. In addition to managing smart grid data, the framework securely stores passwords and credentials, providing users with a comprehensive solution for data security and access management. The use of off-chain smart contract execution and trusted execution environments maximizes performance. To further assure transactional reliability during the result dissemination and payment procedures, the framework employs a two-phase atomic delivery mechanism. Energy service providers gain from optimum contracts because they encourage high-quality data exchange and customer participation through the use of contract theory. Extensive simulations validate the efficacy of the proposed approach, enabling users to securely access their data remotely through a cloud platform integrated with open-source services. © 2024 IEEE.

In hospitals and other health facilities, the usage of medical monitoring systems has skyrocketed, and governments throughout the globe are becoming more concerned about the potential dangers of medical monitoring systems on the move. Telemedicine has been facilitated by the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the healthcare industry. As part of this research, a patient's health and room conditions may be monitored in real-time using an IoT-based smart healthcare system. ESP32 is fitted with a variety of biosensors that assess heart rate, body oxygen level, and temperature. An internet of things (IOT) application allows physicians and caregivers to access patient data from distant locations. In the event of an emergency, caretakers and doctors can be contacted via smartphone alerts. © 2022 IEEE.

The use of natural wastes and biomasses has become a strategic sector widely used for industrial applications to meet sustainable development and cost-savings for Indians. The future growth is likely depending on the availability of biodegradable materials. In this study, two types of fibers, such as alkali-treated alfa fiber (ATAF) and alkali-treated hemp fiber (ATHF) with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), were used for the hybridization. It exhibits substantial energy and cost savings to improve the material's strength. The samples are fabricated using the melt mixing method with six different laminates at various weight quantities of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). Each sample was cut from the composite sheets and measured mechanical properties according to ASTM standards. The study shows a significant impact of fibers on the characteristics of mechanical and thermal properties. Compared with the matrix, the addition of hybrid fibers results in a 43% of improvement in strength. Hybridization fiber content up to 15% mixture decreased porosity to 21%. The UHMWPE/AFHF/AFAF/PVA composites possess higher crystallization peak and thermal stability was lower than that of UHMWPE. The thermogravimetric analysis was conducted, and the sample with 15% of fiber and 6% of PVA-reinforced hybrid composite indicated excellent thermal stability. Surface morphology is also performed to identify material behavior. This material is widely used in marine components, medical equipment, chemical holding tanks and food processing parts. © 2022, The Institution of Engineers (India).

Aluminium is a binary alloy has a larger importance to engineering industries with excellent wear resistance and stiffness that have been designed for lightweight and higher strength applications in the automobile sectors. To synthesis the hybrid metal matrix composite, silicon carbide is chosen as primary reinforcement varied at different weight fraction (1, 2, 3, 4 wt%) with a constant boron carbide of 3 wt% used in the present study was carried through liquid metallurgy technique. The composites were then subjected to mechanical and wear properties study. The effect of reinforcement particles by increasing various weight fractions have been investigated and characterized mechanical and wear properties. The 4 wt% of SiC/B4C reinforced composites tends to increases hardness and tensile strength to 29.7% and 20% as compared to the base alloy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
