Experimental implementation of chaos-based video encryption using visible light communication technology

Simulations are commonly used to develop and evaluate video encryption algorithms. Although these approaches are useful for demonstrating theoretical feasibility and algorithm performance, they neglect practical challenges and real-world communication conditions. This oversight creates a critical gap in evaluating their effectiveness and security in practical applications. In this paper, we describe a novel, to the best of our knowledge, video encryption scheme that employs a modified chaotic Colpitts oscillator, a customized Josephus problem, and ribonucleic acid (RNA) operations, and is implemented in visible light communication (VLC) environment. The modified Colpitts oscillator reveals significant phenomena, the most prominent for this study being chaos. The encryption scheme involves block scrambling and pixel-level permutation employing a customized Josephus problem and a column and row shifting technique. Diffusion is then achieved through a custom Josephus problem-oriented RNA operation combined with basic RNA operations and cipher block chaining (CBC). Based on the results, we found that the customized Josephus problem-based permutation performed more efficiently than traditional methods, whereas the column and row shifting permutation was more robust. By eliminating key sequence coding and item-to-item operations, the proposed RNA operation reduces computational overhead. This video encryption scheme is proven to be effective and resilient at securing video data transmitted over the VLC channel, and it constitutes a significant advancement in areas such as surveillance, medical imaging, and military communication requiring robust secured video data. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Sliding-Mode Based Model Predictive Control for Enhancing Robustness and Output Performance in Dynamic Inductive Power Transfer Systems

In dynamic inductive power transfer (DIPT) systems for automated guided vehicles (AGVs), the movement of the AGV can significantly impact the coupling coefficient, degrading the output performance. Conventional control methods, while capable of addressing this challenge, often exhibit weak robustness due to their sensitivity to circuit parameter variations and require trial-and-error process for tuning coefficients, thus increasing design complexity and difficulty. This paper proposes a sliding-mode based model predictive control (SM-MPC) approach tailored for DIPT systems to enhance robustness and output performance. The SM-MPC employs a predictive model to force the control object to converge to a sliding surface, leveraging fast dynamic response characteristics to mitigate AGV movement-induced disturbances. A pole-placement method is introduced to directly acquire the optimal sliding coefficient, eliminating iterative tuning requirements and simplifying the design process. Herein, the DIPT system model is presented, followed by the SM-MPC design methodology, stability analysis, and sliding coefficient design. Finally, simulations and experimental results validate the proposed SM-MPC’s effectiveness in stabilizing the output performance of DIPT systems, demonstrating improved robustness against parameter variations and disturbances caused by AGV movement compared to existing control methods. © 2013 IEEE.

The challenges posed by nonlinearities in industrial systems necessitate innovative techniques that outperform the limitations of traditional methods such as principal component analysis (PCA). While Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA) offers a robust solution to handle nonlinear data, its computational requirements are a significant issue, especially for large-sized datasets. In this work, we propose a novel technique, namely, reduced kernel principal component analysis-based spectral clustering (RKPCA SpC ), to monitor and detect faults in the benchmark Tennessee Eastman process. The suggested approach addresses the complexity associated with KPCA by reducing data size during the model training phase. This reduction involves retaining only the principal components, preserving informative features, and selecting pertinent samples without compromising the original data's content. The efficacy of the proposed method is evaluated through key performance metrics, including false alarm rate (FAR), missed detection rate (MDR), detection time delay (DTD), and computation time (CT). Additionally, gained execution time (GET), gained storage space (GSP), and loss function (LF) are considered, providing a comprehensive assessment of the developed paradigms' effectiveness. The results demonstrate the promising capabilities of our proposed scheme.

Enhancing bone-conducted speech with spectrum similarity metric in adversarial learning

Although bone-conducted (BC) speech offers the advantage of being insusceptible to background noise, its transmission path through bone tissue entails not only serious attenuation of high-frequency components but also speech distortion and the loss of unvoiced speech, resulting in a substantial degradation in both speech quality and intelligibility. Existing BC speech enhancement methods focus mainly on approaching high-frequency component restoration but overlook the restoration of missing unvoiced speech and the mitigation of speech distortion, resulting in a noticeable gap in speech quality and intelligibility compared to air-conducted (AC) speech. In this paper, a spectrum-similarity metric based adversarial learning method is proposed for bone-conducted speech enhancement. The acoustic features corresponding to source-excitation and filter-response are disentangled using the WORLD vocoder and mapped to its AC speech counterparts with logarithmic Gaussian normalization and a vocal tract converter, respectively. To reconstruct unvoiced speech from BC speech and decrease the nonlinear speech distortion in BC speech, the vocal tract converter predicts low-dimensional Mel-cepstral coefficients of AC speech using a generator which is supervised by a classification discriminator and a spectrum similarity discriminator. While the classification discriminator is used to distinguish between authentic AC speech and enhanced BC speech, the spectrum similarity discriminator is designed to evaluate the spectrum similarity between enhanced BC speech and its AC counterpart. To evaluate spectrum similarity, the correlation of time–frequency units in spectrum of long duration is captured within the self-attention layer embedded in the spectrum similarity discriminator. The modern energy landscape is undergoing a seismic change from traditional, finite energy sources and toward cleaner, renewable alternatives. The restrictions faced by traditional sources, which are not only finite but increasingly shrink in the face of burgeoning global energy demands driven by population increase and industrial expansion, are driving this change. Although promising, renewable energy poses complications, particularly the reliance on climatic conditions. An important aspect of addressing these difficulties is effective energy management within distribution systems, which includes forecasting and optimization phases. This research focuses on forecasting using an advanced machine learning (ML) approach. Accurately forecasting renewable energy generation over time is critical for improving energy management. This technique is evaluated using a variety of performance indicators, including Mean Error (ME), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and the Coefficient of Determination (R 2 ). Empirical studies support the method's usefulness, demonstrating noteworthy performance with low error rates.

In high-efficiency 12-to-1-1.8-V applications, the small duty ratio (D ≈ 0.1) and high voltage stress on power switches of the conventional buck converter bring significant efficiency penalty. This article proposes a dual-inductor quad-path hybrid buck (2L4PHB) converter that addresses these issues, achieving both high power conversion efficiency and power density. Compared to the widely used double step-down (DSD) converter, the proposed 2L4PHB converter reduces the average inductor current by 30% and the inductor current ripple by 18% at a voltage conversion ratio (VCR) of 0.15. In addition to continuous conduction mode (CCM), this design incorporates a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) calibration loop to improve efficiency at light loads. The proposed 2L4PHB converter, fabricated in a 180-nm BCD process, achieves a maximum current density of 0.18 A/mm2 and 256 A/cm3 and a peak efficiency of 93.7% and maintains efficiencies above 85% across load currents ranging from 0.6 to 4 A, all while using a compact inductor with dimensions of 2.5 × 2.0 × 1.0 mm3 and a DCR of 48 mΩ. © 2025 IEEE.

MN-Net: Speech Enhancement Network via Modeling the Noise

Currently, deep learning-based speech enhancement methods generally focus on target speech extraction while neglecting modeling the other sound sources in the mixture. These methods still can't distinguish the target speech from the interference well. In this paper, we present a monaural speech enhancement network via Modeling the Noise (MN-Net), which includes a shared Encoder and three separate Decoders for parallel modeling the magnitude and phase spectrogram of target speech, and the complex spectrogram of noise. Specifically, we propose a Multi-Branch Feature Extractor (MBFE) module to capture the richer contextual information in mixture, and a Spatial Reconstruction Unit (SRU) to remove the redundancy from extracted features. We compared our proposed MN-Net with 18 classical speech enhancement methods on the VoiceBank+DEMAND dataset, and with 9 ones on DNS-Challenge dataset for denoising task, and with 7 ones on the WHAMR! dataset for simultaneous denoising & de-reverberation task. Our proposed MBFE module was applied to two classical speech enhancement methods, DB-AIAT and CMGAN, replacing their DenseBlocks module. The results demonstrate that applying the MBFE module can boost their performances while keeping smaller model size. A series of visualization analysis intuitively verify that modeling the noise can enable the network to distinguish the target speech from noise and other interference more accurately.

People's increasing demand for high-quality network services has prompted the continuous attention and development of network traffic classification (NTC). In recent years, deep flow inspection (DFI) is considered to be the most effective and promising method to solve the NTC. However, DFI still cannot effectively address the problem of changes in flow characteristics of complex packet flows and the discovery of new traffic categories. In this paper, we propose a metric learning based deep learning solution with feature compressor, named deep flow embedding (DFE). The feature compressor is used to compress the feature information transmitted layer by layer in DL backbone while maintaining the computational accuracy, so that the backbone can remove as much noise, redundancy, and other irrelevant information from the input data as possible, and achieve more robust feature extraction of network traffic flow. The deep learning (DL) backbone generates an embedding vector for each network packet flow. Then the embedding vector is compared with the vector template preset for each traffic type in the template library to determine the category of the packet flow. Experimental results verify that our method is more effective than the traditional DFI methods in overcoming the problems of flow characteristics variation and new category discovery. © 2013 IEEE.

Radio-based localization approaches that make use of reflections in the propagation environment to improve the accuracy and robustness of location estimates have a variety of potential applications in future wireless communication networks. Multipath-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) aims at estimating the position of agents and reflecting features in the environment by exploiting the relationship between the local geometry and multipath components (MPCs) in received radio signals. Existing multipath-based SLAM methods preprocess received radio signals using a channel estimator. The channel estimator lowers the data rate by extracting a set of dispersion parameters for each MPC. These parameters are then used as measurements for SLAM. Bayesian estimation for multipath-based SLAM is facilitated by the lower data rate. However, due to finite resolution capabilities limited by signal bandwidth, channel estimation is prone to errors and MPC parameters may be extracted incorrectly and lead to a reduced SLAM performance. We propose a multipath-based SLAM approach that directly uses received radio signals as inputs. A new statistical model that can effectively be represented by a factor graph is introduced. The factor graph is the starting point for the development of an efficient belief propagation (BP) method for multipath-based SLAM that avoids data preprocessing by a channel estimator. Numerical results based on synthetic and real data in challenging single-input, single-output (SISO) scenarios demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms conventional methods in terms of localization and mapping accuracy. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) assisted semi-grant-free (SGF) transmission, which enables grant-based users to share their spectrum with grant-free (GF) users, becomes an effective solution to the challenge of massive connections. However, this improvement is limited as most of the existing schemes can only admit one GF user. In this paper, we propose a novel NOMA-assisted SGF transmission scheme to support the access of multiple GF users in unmanned aerial vehicle networks. Moreover, in order to further enhance the advantages of the multi-user SGF scheme, two SGF schemes with power matching are devised to further improve the performance by employing the benefits of distributed contention. For ease of performance evaluation, the theoretical expressions of achievable sum rate and average age of information of the three SGF schemes are derived by applying order statistics. We also investigate the high signal-to- noise approximation expressions of sum rate for these schemes to give more insight. Finally, simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance improvement of three proposed SGF schemes and validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis expressions. © 1972-2012 IEEE.
