This paper introduces the failure operation principle of the capacitive floating level shifter, as well as its simplified circuit model. Based on the model, the mathematical equations for analyzing the level shifter's characteristics and its respective performances are also derived. Design criteria for the capacitive floating level shifter are proposed derived from the model and corresponding MATLAB simulation results. Furthermore, transistor-level simulations using 65-nm CMOS technology verify the deduced simplified circuit model and the proposed design criteria, following which, overdesign can be avoided to guarantee the proper operation of the floating capacitive level shifter, thus saving chip area and reducing cost.

With the increasingly rapid developments in e-commerce, schemes for digital gift certificates have become prevalent electronic payment systems due to their practicality and simplicity. In 2002, Chan and Chang introduced the concept of digital gift certificates and proposed the first scheme associated with them. Recently, Chang and Chang (2005) proposed a more practical scheme, called DGC-US (digital gift certificates with unconstrained spending), which can reduce the computational cost of all entities involved in Chan and Chang‘s scheme, especially the computational cost of the electronic department store. However, the asymmetric encryption/decryption operations required in the DGC-US scheme still waste a significant amount of time. In this paper, we propose a novel authentication scheme for digital gift certificates based on Chebyshev chaotic maps and the blind signature. Our proposed scheme can satisfy the essential security requirements and withstand various well-known attacks. Our analyses have shown that our proposed scheme maintains all of the merits of the DGC-US scheme but is more efficient in terms of computational cost. © 2015, Ubiquitous International. Recently, support vector ranking has been adopted to address the challenging person re-identification problem. However, the ranking model based on ordinary global features cannot represent the significant variation of pose and viewpoint across camera views. Thus, a novel ranking method which fuses the dense invariant features is proposed in this paper to model the variation of images across camera views. By maximizing the margin and minimizing the error score for the fused features, an optimal space for ranking has been learned. Due to the invariance of the dense invariant features and the fusion of the bidirectional features, the proposed method significantly outperforms the original support vector ranking algorithm and is competitive with state-of-the-art techniques on two challenging datasets, showing its potential for real-world person re-identification.

This paper investigates the achievable sum-rate of uplink massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems considering a practical channel impairment, namely, aged channel state information (CSI). Taking into account both maximum ratio combining (MRC) and zero-forcing (ZF) receivers at the base station, we present tight closed-form lower bounds on the sum-rate for both receivers, which provide efficient means to evaluate the sum-rate of the system. More importantly, we characterize the impact of channel aging on the power scaling law. Specifically, we show that the transmit power of each user can be scaled down by 1/√(M), which indicates that aged CSI does not affect the power scaling law; instead, it causes only a reduction on the sum rate by reducing the effective signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR).

The advent of modern light-emitting diode (LED) techniques enables us to develop novel lighting systems with numerous previously unavailable features. Specifically, by using the fixtures for both illumination and to interrogate the space, source-to-sensor communication becomes possible at very low cost. In this paper, we present a novel framework to estimate the occupancy distribution in an indoor space using color-controllable LED fixtures (the same fixtures providing the illumination, simultaneously) and sparsely distributed non-imaging color sensors. By modulating randomly generated perturbation patterns onto the drive signals of the LED fixtures and measuring the changes in the color sensor responses, we are able to recover a light transport model for the room. Two approaches are proposed to estimate the spatial distribution of the occupancy, based on a light blockage model and a light reflection model, respectively. These two approaches, which can be combined, can faithfully reveal the occupancy scenario of the indoor space, while preserving the privacy of its occupants. An occupancy-sensitive lighting system can be designed based on this technique.

The Electrocardiogram (ECG) is essential for the clinical diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. An advanced algorithm combining wavelet packet transformation (WPT) and Hilbert Huang transform (HHT) is presented for processing ECG (Electrocardiography) signal in this paper. First the WPT can resolve the ECG signal into a group of signals with narrow band. Then, the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) process of Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is applied on the narrow band signals. The unrelated IMFs of ECG signal are removed from result through a screening process. Finally, the Hilbert transform is employed to achieve the Hilbert spectrum and marginal spectrum. The results show the effective performance of the algorithm combining WPT and HHT in reducing ECG noise and time-frequency analysis. By comparing with the original HHT, the proposed algorithm has the better performance on ECG signal processing. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014.

We propose a message-passing algorithm of joint channel estimation and decoding for OFDM systems, where expectation propagation is exploited to deal with channel estimation. Specially, the message updating is formulated into a recursive form. As a result, for system with K subcarriers and L channel taps, only O(K + L) messages need to be tracked, and meanwhile they can be efficiently calculated using FFT with complexity O(K-A- + K log2 K), where -A- denotes the constellation size. Numerical experiments show that our algorithm achieves BER performance within 0.5 dB of the known-channel bound. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper introduces the use of three physiologically-motivated features for speaker identification, Residual Phase Cepstrum Coefficients (RPCC), Glottal Flow Cepstrum Coefficients (GLFCC) and Teager Phase Cepstrum Coefficients (TPCC). These features capture speaker-discriminative characteristics from different aspects of glottal source excitation patterns. The proposed physiologically-driven features give better results with lower model complexities, and also provide complementary information that can improve overall system performance even for larger amounts of data. Results on speaker identification using the YOHO corpus demonstrate that these physiologically-driven features are both more accurate than and complementary to traditional mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC). In particular, the incorporation of the proposed glottal source features offers significant overall improvement to the robustness and accuracy of speaker identification tasks.

Automatic target generation process (ATGP) has been found very useful and effective for unsupervised target detection. It performs a sequence of orthogonal subspace projection to extract potential targets of interest. One major issue arises in ATGP is how to terminate the algorithm in the sense that how many targets are required for ATGP to generate before it is terminated. This paper presents a recursive version of ATGP, referred to as recursive ATGP (RATGP) which has two advantages. One is no need of inverting any matrix as ATGP does for finding each target. Most importantly, a stopping rule can be derived for ATGP via RATGP is also developed using the Neyman-Pearosn detection theory to determine how many targets needed to be generated by RATGP before it is terminated.

For the spatially correlated multiuser MIMO-OFDM channels, the conventional iterative MMSE-SIC detection suffers from a considerable performance loss. In this paper, we use the factor graph framework to design robust detection algorithms by clustering a group of symbols to combat the spatial correlation and using the principle of expectation propagation to improve message passing. Furthermore, as the complexity of detection becomes one of the issues in the design of large-scale multiuser MIMO-OFDM systems, we propose a low-complexity approximate message-passing algorithm by opening the channel transition node, which eliminates the expensive matrix inversions involved in the MMSE-SIC based algorithms. Finally, numerical results are presented to verify the proposed algorithms. © 2014 IEEE.
