We want to implement a new optimal approach for image restoration problem, which is useful for neutron radiography images enhancement to assist the physician interpreter on his evaluation. Our approach is based on using swarm intelligence optimization algorithms to solve a least squares minimization ill-posed problem, using Bacterial Foraging Optimization (BFO) Algorithm. To get smoothed images in presence of noise, a Laplacian constraint is introduced for regularization purpose. ©2010 IEEE.

The Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is a mathematical procedure that stands at the center of the processing that takes place inside a Digital signal Processor. It has been known and argued through the literatures that the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is useless in detecting a specific frequency in a monitored signal because most of the computed results are ignored. In this paper we will present an efficient FFT based method to detect specific frequencies in a monitored signal which is compared to the most frequently used method "the Goertzel's Algorithm". Parallel implementation structure show a fast computation method compared to the Goertzel's algorithm. Computational speedup gains of r using radix-r butterfly are shown. ©2010 IEEE.

This paper deals with the local spectrum sensing problem in non-Gaussian noise. It is of great importance to reliably detect the presence of licensed users in cognitive radio. This task highly depends on the noise distribution, thus it is important to characterize the noise behavior as best as possible. Although Gaussian assumption for noise is of interest due to many reasons, it sometimes fails to model the behavior of noise in practice. In this paper we present a local spectrum sensing scheme in a broad family of non-Gaussian noise. We reasonably assume that the Primary User (PU) signal is Phase Shift Keying (PSK) modulated, where the number of constellation points, M, and the symbol code sequence are unknown to the Secondary Users (SU), as in practice. We also assume that the SUs are unaware of the PU signal complex amplitude and the non-Gaussian noise variance. Within this framework, we obtain the Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test (GLRT) as our spectrum sensing scheme and propose an approximate implementation of the resulting GLRT. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme has an acceptable performance.

Summary form only given. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has become one of the most examined molecules on the planet. Scientist around the world have been trying to unravel its secrets for many purposes. For example, genetic information is currently used to raise better plants and animals, create enhanced pharmaceuticals for humans, and for gene therapy in medicine. Science as a whole has benefited from the study of genetics because of the increased understanding of biological process that all organisms share. In recent decades, a significant amount of research has been directed towards sequencing and understanding the entire human genome through the Human Genome Project (HGP) launched in 1986. The goal of the HGP was to find the location of the approximately 1×105 human genes, and read all the sequence of human genome (about 3×109 base pairs, bp). An exponential grow rate of that research has resulted in reaching the goal by 2003. Similarly, the speed of finding genes and their locations is also increasing rapidly. On the other hand, the traditional methods of finding genes and their location at chromatosomes through testing their biological function have been inherently slow. Although numerous faster techniques have been developed, there is still a need to augment them with new approaches. Therefore, robust computational solutions to the gene-finding problem could provide a valuable resource for the HGP and for the molecular-biology community. Most of the current research in the deciphering the meaning of DNA sequences is approached from the lowest base-pair level. Its main objective is to search for patterns or correlations existing in the DNA sequence related to codons, amino acids, and proteins. We consider the K user Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Gaussian interference channel with M antennas at each transmitter and N antennas at each receiver. It is assumed that channel coefficients are fixed and are available at all transmitters and at all receivers. The main objective of this paper is to characterize the total Degrees Of Freedom (DOF) for this channel. Using a new interference alignment technique which has been recently introduced in, we show that MN/M+N K degrees of freedom can be achieved for almost all channel realizations. Also, a new upper-bound on the total DOF for this channel is derived. This upper-bound coincides with our achievable DOF for K ≥ K u = Δ M+N/gcd(M,N) where gcd(M,N) denotes the greatest common divisor of M and N. This gives an exact characterization of DOF for MIMO Gaussian interference channel in the case of K ≥ K u .

We propose an adaptive motion compensated frame interpolation scheme which is capable of developing a frame rate from a lower number into a higher number and a decoded video quality at the decoder. The proposed algorithm utilizes the preliminary frames of the forward and backward directions using bilateral prediction. In the processing of the preliminary frames, an additional interpolation is performed to fill the occlusion areas. If the calculated values between the reference and current frames are larger than the predetermined threshold, the block is chosen as the occlusion area. In addition, we performed a re-search in order to acquire the best blocks, taking into account the number of available adjacent blocks for the occlusion areas. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm has better PSNR and visual quality than those of the conventional methods.

This paper presents a frame interpolation algorithm using the motion information of some object within the estimated blocks. The proposed algorithm uses two initial frames that are generated based on the backward and forward frames using the motion vectors. In this process, the occlusion regions are occurred in two initial frames since the optimal block is only selected by threshold. Furthermore, the regions are irregularly appeared because of that the selected block is interpolated on half position between the estimated motion vectors. Two initial frames are merged to interpolate the occlusion regions. Also, the occlusion areas, which are still existence in the merged frame, are interpolated by using the neighboring pixel information and the available data in the occlusion block. In this paper, the experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm has better PSNR and the visual quality than the conventional algorithms.

Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) is a powerful technique for the visualization of blood vessels. The major problem encountered in DSA images is the presence of motion artifacts which arise from the misalignment of successive images in the sequence. In this paper, a fast registration algorithm for coronary angiographic images is proposed. It involves a feature-based selection of control points for which the displacement is computed by means of template matching, and the complete displacement vector field is constructed by means of interpolation. To reduce the computational cost of the template matching procedure, an iterative hill-climbing approach is used for optimization and for handling the local misalignments, the image warping is performed based on multilevel B-spline interpolation.

The objective of signature verification is to distinguish forgery signature from genuine one. Online signature is the one which is registered through electronic devices such as digitizers and stored on computers in time sequence form. In this kind of signatures in addition to location information, time information such as speed and acceleration is stored. In this paper after accomplishment of some pre-processing procedures like normalization of signature size, smoothing and elimination of rotation on signatures using algorithms based on extremum matching of signals and ant colony, their time duration will be equalized. Afterwards, similarities between signatures will be determined using extended regression and finally will try to distinguish between forgery signatures from genuine one using support vector machine (SVM). The suggested online verification system is tested on SVC2004 signature set which is related to the first international signature verification competition and results are compared to respective results of participants. The results state that suggested method exhibits equal error rate (EER) of %4.3 in skilled forger group.

The aim of this study is to assess the functional connectivity from resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. Spectral clustering algorithm was applied to the realistic and real fMRI data acquired from a resting healthy subject to find functionally connected brain regions. In order to make computation of the spectral decompositions of the entire brain volume feasible, the similarity matrix has been sparsified with the t-nearestneighbor approach. Realistic data were created to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm and comparing it to the recently proposed spectral clustering algorithm with the Nystrom approximation and also with some well-known algorithms such as the Cross Correlation Analysis (CCA) and the spatial Independent Component Analysis (sICA). To enhance the performance of the methods, a variety of data pre and post processing steps, including data normalization, outlier removal, dimensionality reduction by using wavelet coefficients, estimation of number of clusters and optimal number of independent components (ICs). Results demonstrate the applicability of the proposed algorithm for functional connectivity analysis.
