With the characteristics of low DC-link voltage and wide operating range, thyristor-controlled LC-coupling hybrid active power filter (TCLC-HAPF) is a promising power quality compensator in the medium-voltage-level power system. This paper reviews the design and implementation of different current control strategies for the TCLC-HAPF, which are hysteresis current control (HCC), multi-quasi-proportional-resonant control (MQPRC), H∞ optimal control (HOC), finite-set model predictive control (FS-MPC), second-order sliding mode control (SOSMC) and deadbeat current control (DBCC). Also, their pros and cons are fully discussed. In order to provide a deeper understanding about the steady-state and transient performances of these control strategies, the simulation study is presented under both inductive and capacitive loads. © 2023 IEEE.

Mathematical model of the inductive power transfer (IPT) systems is essential for stability analysis and control design. Conventional modeling approaches for IPT systems result in high-order models, as each resonant voltage or current is represented by two slowly changing real-valued variables. Alternative modeling methods may decrease the model order, but they are often plagued by drawbacks such as the absence of analytical expressions, reduced generality, and incomplete modeling. Moreover, the harmonic AC components of the IPT system are not well modeled in the existing methods, which affects the analysis accuracy and control optimality. In this paper, a harmonic transfer function (HTF) modeling of the IPT system is proposed, which has good mathematical properties and improved accuracy. First, the circuit configuration and the linear time-varying (LTV) large-signal model are proposed. Then, the derivation of the proposed HTF is comprehensively discussed. Finally, the accuracy of the proposed HTF is verified by simulation and experimental results in comparison with other representative modeling methods, which shows an improved accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Remote sensing image classification is a popular yet challenging field. Many researchers have combined convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Transformers for hyperspectral image (HSI) classification tasks. However, in traditional Transformers, shallow-level information does not propagate well to deeper layers, which can lead to spatial variations and overfitting. Moreover, traditional Transformer models use an external classification (CLS) token that is randomly initialized and often struggles to generalize effectively. In this paper, we combine the strengths of HSI and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data, using LiDAR as an external CLS token, which significantly enhances classification accuracy and reliability. We propose a new multimodal cross-layer fusion transformer network (MCFTNet), integrating CNNs with the latest Transformer networks. It includes a CNN for extracting spatial features and a hybrid cross-patch attention mechanism (HyCrossAttention) for land cover classification, leveraging LiDAR data to generate CLS and HSI patch tokens. More importantly, to reduce the loss of valuable information during the layer-by-layer propagation, we designed cross-layer skip connections. Through adaptive learning, these cross-layer fusions help address the gradient vanishing problem in deep networks while preserving early-layer features. This enables the model to better integrate information from different layers, enhancing both its stability and performance. We carried out in - depth experiments on commonly - used benchmark datasets, specifically, the University of Houston dataset, the Trento dataset, and the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park (MUUFL) dataset. We compared the results of the proposed MCFTNet model with those obtained from state-of-the-art Transformer models, classical CNNs, and traditional classifiers. As a result, the MCFTNet model outshone them all in terms of performance. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

This paper considers a communication system where a source sends time-sensitive information to its destination via queues in tandem. We assume that the arrival process as well as the service process (of each server) are memoryless, and each of the servers has no buffer. For this setup, we develop a recursive framework to characterize the mean peak age of information (PAoI) under preemptive and non-preemptive policies with $N$ servers having different service rates. For the preemptive case, the proposed framework also allows to obtain mean age of information (AoI).

In this paper, Q-value theory of conventional antennas is used to analyze reasons of low radiation performance of acoustics promoted antennas, where we modify the radiating structure of existing acoustics promoting antenna using the simulations to get the required improvement on radiation performance. The simulation experiments are carried out in the finite element simulation software Comsol Multiphysics to analyze the radiating performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Background: Capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) is a promising component of mechanical-electrical-acoustical conversion, which shows valuable applications in non-distructive testing and obstacle detection fields. In order to study the influence of dimension parameters on the directivity of CMUTs, the three-dimensional multi-physics coupling model is proposed for CMUTs in this paper. Methods: The model combines multiple physical fields through finite element method (FEM), which is more efficient and accurate. The influence of dimension parameters on the transducer is studied from two aspects: the pitch between adjacent cells and cell number, respectively. Results: When increasing the pitch, the directivity becomes better if the pitch is less than half of the wavelength, the grating lobe and side lobe are aroused. However, the bandwidth at-3dB is reduced by up to 71.1% at the same time. When increasing the cell number, the better the direcitvity, while the change of the cell number has little effect on the bandwidth of the array. However, 5.4% frequency shift was caused due to the effective mass change of the transducer. Conclusion: In this study, a 3D model based on FEM is proposed for the influence of dimension parameter on CMUTs. The simulation results indicate that the directivity can be enhanced by chang-ing the dimension. At the same time, it also introduces other performance issues, such as bandwidth decrease and frequency shift through this approach. Therefore, the simulation proposed the guidance of CMUTs performance optimization and patented technology application work in the future. © 2024, Bentham Science Publishers. All rights reserved.

This paper introduces a digitally controlled multiphase multistage hybrid boost converter (MMHBC) for high voltage capacitor charging applications. Rapid capacitor charging control approach is presented, and topological variations to improve efficiency are examined. The controller provides tight output current regulation, while maintaining real-time current balancing capabilities for superior thermal distribution and converter efficiency. The MMHBC is capable of rapid capacitor bank charging to high voltage by forcing maximum output current at the first stage, which translates into maximal output power during the whole charging period. The controller includes a system governor unit which facilitates additional control aspects for multiphase operation such as phase shedding, soft-start mechanism, and system protection. SMPS operation, rapid capacitor charging, and topological improvements are validated experimentally on a four-phase 12V-to-300V multiphase prototype with a maximum output power of 250W and power density of 2.5kW/Liter. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper describes a work on an acoustic user authentication system using smartphones. The system implements two-factor authentication for Windows workstations, where the authentication procedure, including locking and unlocking the workstation is transparent to the user. Since workstations and smartphones have built-in microphones and speakers, the system does not require additional hardware. The uniqueness of the solution is being based on acoustic signals. These signals are transmitted by the user's smartphone and received by the workstation microphone. The system is “pure play acoustic” since no wiring or radio transmission is used. The system configuration supports multiple users in the same area. Eavesdropping prevention is provided by sequentially generated random one-time keys. Acoustic communication can be applied either in the audible range or beyond the human hearing range depending on the sampling rate of the smartphone and the workstation.

In this paper, a novel filtering balun based on microstrip-to-slotline transition is proposed. Utilizing the inherent out-of-phase electric field distributions on the adjacent grounds of slotline, the balun function is realized. In order to realize the wide notched-band and stopband performance for radio astronomical applications, spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP) metamaterial and multi-mode hairpin ring resonators (HRRs) are adopted. With these novel structures loaded, the proposed filtering balun exhibits a wide band from 1GHz to 6 GHz. The notched band is from 3.2 GHz to 4.4 GHz, within the notched band, the rejection level is better than 15 dB. Besides, the out-of-band suppression is below 35 dB in the wide frequency range from 6 GHz to 8 GHz. © 2023 IEEE.

computer vision has proven itself capable of accurately detecting and classifying objects within images. This also works in cases where images are used as a way of representing data, without being actual photographs. In cybersecurity, computer vision is rarely used, however it has been used to detect botnets successfully. We applied computer vision to determine how well it would be able to detect and classify a large number of attacks and determined that it would be able to run at a decent rate on a Jetson Nano. This was accomplished by training a convolutional neural network using data publicly available in the IoT-23 database, which contains packet captures of IoT devices with and without different malware infections. The neural network was evaluated on an RTX 3050 and a Jetson Nano to see if it could be used in IoT.
