The phenomenon of bound state in the continuum(BIC)with an infinite quality factor and lifetime has emerged in recent years in photonics as a new tool to manipulate light-matter ***,most of the investigated structures only support BIC resonances at very few discrete points in theω~k *** when the BIC is switched to a quasi-BIC(QBIC)resonance through perturbation,its frequency will still be located within a narrow spectral band close to that of the original BIC,restricting their applications in many fields where random or multiple input frequencies beyond the narrow band are *** this work,we demonstrate that a new set of QBIC resonances can be supported by using a special binary grating consisting of two alternatingly aligned ridge arrays with the same period and zero-approaching ridge width difference on a slab *** QBIC resonances are distributed continuously over a broad band along a line in theω~k space and can thus be considered as 1 D *** the Q factors generally affected by the ridge difference,it is now possible to arbitrarily choose any frequencies on the dispersion line to achieve significantly enhanced light-matter interactions,facilitating many applications where multiple input wavelengths are required;e.g.,sum or difference frequency generations in nonlinear optics.

Single channel blind source separation (SCBSS) refers to separate multiple sources from a mixed signal collected by a single sensor. The existing methods for SCBSS mainly focus on separating two sources and have weak generalization performance. To address these problems, an algorithm is proposed in this paper to separate multiple sources from a mixture by designing a parallel dual generative adversarial Network (PDualGAN) that can build the relationship between a mixture and the corresponding multiple sources to realize one-to-multiple cross-domain mapping. This algorithm can be applied to any mixed model such as linear instantaneous mixed model and convolutional mixed model. Besides, one-to-multiple datasets are created which including the mixtures and corresponding sources for this study. The experiment was carried out on four different datasets and tested with signals mixed in different proportions. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve high performance in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and correlation, which outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2021, CC BY.

There are more than 70 million people worldwide who suffer from stuttering problems. This will affect the confidence of public speaking in people who suffer from this issue. To solve this problem many people take therapy sessions but the therapy sessions are a temporary solution, as soon as they leave therapy sessions this problem might arise again. This work aims to use state of the art machine learning algorithms that have improved over the past few years to solve this problem. We have used the dataset from UCLASS archives which provide the data for stuttered speech *** format with time-aligned transcriptions. We have tried different algorithms and optimized our model by hyper parameter tuning to maximize the model's accuracy. The algorithm is tested on random speech data with low to heavy stuttering from the same dataset, and it is observed that there is significant reduction in the Word Error Rate(WER) for most of the test cases.

This work proposes a new fault diagnosis approach for a wind energy conversion (WEC) system. The proposed technique merges the benefits of feature extraction based on Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) and Multi-Class Random Forest (MCRF)-based fault classification where instances are classified into one or more classes. In the developed GPR-MCRF approach, the nonlinear statistical features including the mean vector M GPR and the variance matrix C GPR are computed using the GPR model with aim of extracting the most relevant features from the WEC system. Then, these features are introduced to the RF classifier for classification and diagnosis purposes. Therefore, the application of the GPR-MCRF technique for WEC systems aims to enhance the use of the classical raw data-based MCRF and diagnosis accuracy. Three kinds of faults (wear-out, open-circuit, and short-circuit faults) are considered in this work. Different case studies are investigated in order to illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the developed technique compared to the state-of-the-art methods. The obtained results show that the the developed GPR-MCRF technique is an effective feature extraction and fault diagnosis technique for WEC systems.

Dynamic analysis of a novel jerk system with composite tanh-cubic nonlinearity: chaos, multi-scroll, and multiple coexisting attractors

It is well known that the dynamics of very simple physical systems can be quite complex if a sufficient amount of nonlinearity is present. In this contribution, a novel jerk system with smooth composite tanh-cubic nonlinearity is proposed and investigated. Interestingly, the new nonlinearity takes advantage of the classical smooth cubic polynomial in the sense that it induces more complex and interesting dynamics (e.g. five equilibria instead of three in the case of a (traditional) cubic nonlinearity, multi-scroll, and multistability). The fundamental properties of the model are discussed including equilibria and stability, phase portraits, Poincaré sections, bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponent’s plots. Period doubling bifurcation, antimonotonicity, chaos, hysteresis, and coexisting bifurcations are reported. In particular, a rare phenomenon is found in which two different pairs of coexisting limit cycles born from the Hopf bifurcation follow each a different sequence of period-doubling bifurcations, then merge to form a three-scroll chaotic attractor as a parameter is smoothly changed. As another major result of this work, several windows in the parameter space are depicted in which the novel jerk system develops the striking behaviour of multiple coexisting attractors (i.e. coexistence of three, four, six, or eight disjoint periodic and chaotic attractors for the same parameters set) due to the combined effects of three families of parallel bifurcation branches and hysteresis. An electronic analogue of the new jerk system is designed and simulated in PSPICE. As far as the authors’ knowledge goes, no example of such a simple and ‘elegant’ 3D autonomous system with this combination of features is reported in the relevant literature. © 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Scenario to chaos and multistability in a modified Coullet system: effects of broken symmetry

Recently, the study of nonlinear systems with multiple attractors has drained the attention of researchers worldwide owing to its fundamental and technological relevance. In this work, we consider a modified Coullet system with a cubic polynomial nonlinearity in the form φm(x) = x- mx2- x3 where m is a control parameter. The new system bridges the gap between chaotic systems with symmetry and those without symmetry. In fact for m= 0 , the system displays a perfect symmetry which is reflected on the location of equilibria, the type of attractors, and the shape of basins of attraction as well. In this special case, multistability involves a pair of mutually symmetric periodic or chaotic attractors, a pair of chaotic attractors with a pair of limit cycles, two pairs of limit cycles with a pair of chaotic attractors, and so on. For m≠ 0 , the system is non symmetric and more complex nonlinear phenomena are observed such as parallel bifurcation branches, coexisting multiple asymmetric attractors, and hysteresis. For instance, the coexistence of a stable fixed point with a limit cycle, two different non symmetric limit cycles or chaotic attractors, three or four different non symmetric periodic and chaotic attractors are reported when monitoring the system parameters and initial conditions as well. Basins of attraction with non-trivial basin boundaries structures are computed to visualize the magnetization of the state space in the presence of multiple attractors. Experimental results based on a suitable electronic implementation of the proposed jerk system are included. © 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

A novel abstract bicompartmental neural model based on a cubic nonlinearity, consisting of introducing a Josephson junction as a coupling element, is presented. Through numerical simulations and experimental measurements involving an analog electronic circuit, it is found that the system can generate a double-scroll chaotic attractor endowed with a remarkably complex topology. This is accompanied by diversification of the spectral signature across its four variables and multistability. An analysis of the global observability and controllability is conducted, leading to the synthesis of a flat controller that can steer the dynamics towards those of structurally different entities, as exemplified by a modified Lorenz system. The first analog realization of flat control is then introduced. The possibility of low-latency and high-accuracy manipulation of the dynamics is demonstrated by considering the challenging case of tracking extraneous external signals, namely, physiological recordings indexing autonomic and central nervous system activity. Besides showing the flexibility and adaptability of the approach, the controller enables the concomitant generation of multiple additional signals with spectrogram features compared to the individual inputs, offering a promising substrate for future applications in physical time series data augmentation. © 2025 The Physical Society of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

This paper concerns the feasibility of a photovoltaic (PV) heating plate. More particularly, by using a thermal resistance, heating of the water and cooking at temperatures above 200°C are analyzed during a sunny day. Through a system of acquisition of electrical and thermal measurements, the cooker set up provides for an illumination of 730 W/m{2} and peak power of the PV panels of the order of 230 W: heating temperature of the resistance 500°C after 30 seconds, variation of the heating temperature of water and oil 10 °C, bake temperatures above 200°C, and a thermal efficiency greater than 70%. The comparison of these results compared to the best published on conventional solar ovens of the box type, shows very interesting performance: improved temperature rise of 75%, improved cooking temperatures of 164% and thermal efficiency of 16%. © 2020 IEEE.

Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems is an important approach to guarantee the human safety of these systems. Therefore, the implementation of a FDC framework is the focus in this paper. The developed approach aims at reducing the energy needs for buildings and improving indoor environment quality. It merges the benefits of multiscale representation, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and Machine Learning (ML) classifiers in order to improve the efficiency of FDC in heating systems. Firstly, a multiscale decomposition is used to extract the dynamics of the systems at different scales. The multiscale representation gives several advantages for monitoring heating systems generally driven by events in different time and frequency responses. Secondly, the multiscaled data-sets are then introduced into the PCA model to extract more efficient characteristics. Thirdly, the ML algorithms are applied to the extracted and selected characteristics to deal with the problem of fault diagnosis. The FDC efficiency of the developed technique is evaluated using a simulated data extracted from heating systems. © 2019 IEEE.
