Retrieval of near-duplicate image fragments is one of the most challenging problems is CBIR (content-based image retrieval). The objective is to identify almost the same fragments in random images of unpredictable contents. Such fragments usually represent identical object, though captured from a different viewpoint, under different photometric conditions and/or by a different camera. The paper presents techniques developed for such applications. In general, the proposed methods are based on statistical properties of keypoint similarities between compared images. In the first approach, we assume that near-duplicates are (approximately) related by affine transformations, i.e. the underlying objects are locally planar. In the second approach, a wider range of shape distortions is acceptable. Implementations (including online detection in realtime videos) are presented and their performances discussed. Additionally, an algorithm for a highly accurate segmentation of detected near-duplicate fragments is presented.

The objective of the discrete-time modeling tools is twofold. First, they give an insight into the basic ideas of discrete-time modeling of dc-dc converters for university students and interested power electronics specialists. Second, as it is being presented below, the interactive calculation tools facilitate the fast and simple model development in WEB browser after entering the basic circuit and load parameters. This feature can especially be useful for the practicing design engineers, since without long calculations with matrix functions the linearized discrete-time system model is immediately and automatically developed in both mathematical form (state-space equations and transfer functions in the Z domain) and also in graphical form (pole-zero map and bode plot).

Motion is one of the most important characteristics in clinical epileptology. In developing an integrated motion analysis system for epileptic patients or children with neurological disorders (e.g. ADHD) we surveyed and analyzed current efforts in vision-based human motion analysis in epilepsy as well as all possible forms of motion typically encountered in known epileptic syndromes. This paper presents the results in a systematic way, and includes a critical discussion of methodological and scientific challenges that need to be addressed in this particular domain.

This Letter reports on a search for narrow high-mass resonances decaying into dilepton final states. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in pp collisions at s=7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 1.08 (1.21) fb−1 in the e+e− (μ+μ−) channel. No statistically significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% C.L. on the cross section times branching fraction of Z′ resonances and Randall-Sundrum gravitons decaying into dileptons as a function of the resonance mass. A lower mass limit of 1.83 TeV on the sequential standard model Z′ boson is set. A Randall-Sundrum graviton with coupling k/M¯Pl=0.1 is excluded at 95% C.L. for masses below 1.63 TeV.

Azimuthal decorrelations between the two central jets with the largest transverse momenta are sensitive to the dynamics of events with multiple jets. We present a measurement of the normalized differential cross section based on the full data set (∫Ldt=36 pb−1) acquired by the ATLAS detector during the 2010 s=7 TeV proton-proton run of the LHC. The measured distributions include jets with transverse momenta up to 1.3 TeV, probing perturbative QCD in a high-energy regime.

This Letter presents the first search for a heavy particle decaying into an e±μ∓ final state in s=7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS detector during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on two representative models. In an R-parity violating supersymmetric model, tau sneutrinos with a mass below 0.75 TeV are excluded, assuming all R-parity violating couplings are zero except λ311′=0.11 and λ312=0.07. In a lepton flavor violating model, a Z′-like vector boson with masses of 0.70–1.00 TeV and corresponding cross sections times branching ratios of 0.175–0.183 pb is excluded. These results extend to higher mass R-parity violating sneutrinos and lepton flavor violating Z’s than previous constraints from the Tevatron.

This Letter presents the first search for supersymmetry in final states containing one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum from s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Limits are set on the parameters of the minimal supergravity framework, extending previous limits. Within this framework, for A0=0 GeV, tan β=3, and μ>0 and for equal squark and gluino masses, gluino masses below 700 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.

This Letter presents a measurement of the W+W− production cross section in s=7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb−1 of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7±0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41−16+20(stat)±5(syst)±1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of 44±3 pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD.

A search for a Higgs boson has been performed in the H→WW→ℓνjj channel in 1.04 fb−1 of pp collision data at s=7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed over the expected background and limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived for a Higgs boson mass in the range 240 GeV
