This paper proposes a novel framework to realize self-stabilizing Byzantine tolerant swarms. In this framework, non-Byzantine robots execute tasks while satisfying location functions, that is, the robots use a policy for their location choice, which restricts their location to satisfy the functions. We give a general Byzantine-resilient self-stabilizing algorithm based on the location function, and then provide an efficient implementation of the self-stabilizing algorithms for special classes of tasks, called polynomial-based tasks and shape-based tasks. We also demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed framework by implementing typical tasks of robots. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper, we propose a novel nonconvex approach to robust principal component analysis for HSI denoising, which focuses on simultaneously developing more accurate approximations to both rank and column-wise sparsity for the low-rank and sparse components, respectively. In particular, the new method adopts the log-determinant rank approximation and a novel 2,log norm, to restrict the local low-rank or column-wisely sparse properties for the component matrices, respectively. For the 2,log-regularized shrinkage problem, we develop an efficient, closed-form solution, which is named 2,log-shrinkage operator. The new regularization and the corresponding operator can be generally used in other problems that require column-wise sparsity. Moreover, we impose the spatial-spectral total variation regularization in the log-based nonconvex RPCA model, which enhances the global piece-wise smoothness and spectral consistency from the spatial and spectral views in the recovered HSI. Extensive experiments on both simulated and real HSIs demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in denoising HSIs. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

RERRFACT: Reduced Evidence Retrieval Representations for Scientific Claim Verification

Exponential growth in digital information outlets and the race to publish has made scientific misinformation more prevalent than ever. However, the task to fact-verify a given scientific claim is not straightforward even for researchers. Scientific claim verification requires in-depth knowledge and great labor from domain experts to substantiate supporting and refuting evidence from credible scientific sources. The SCIFACT dataset and corresponding task provide a benchmarking leaderboard to the community to develop automatic scientific claim verification systems via extracting and assimilating relevant evidence rationales from source abstracts. In this work, we propose a modular approach that sequentially carries out binary classification for every prediction subtask as in the SCIFACT leaderboard. Our simple classifier-based approach uses reduced abstract representations to retrieve relevant abstracts. These are further used to train the relevant rationale-selection model. Finally, we carry out two-step stance predictions that first differentiate non-relevant rationales and then identify supporting or refuting rationales for a given claim. Experimentally, our system RERRFACT with no fine-tuning, simple design, and a fraction of model parameters fairs competitively on the leaderboard against large-scale, modular, and joint modeling approaches. The lung is one of the prime respiratory organs in human physiology, and its abnormality will severely disrupt the respiratory system. Lung Nodule (LN) is one of the abnormalities, and early screening and treatment are necessary to reduce its harshness. The proposed work aims to implement the Convolutional-Neural-Network (CNN) segmentation methodology to extract the LN in various lung CT slices, such as axial, coronal, and sagittal planes. This work consists of the following phases;(i) Image collection and pre-processing, (ii) Ground-truth generation, (iii) CNN-supported segmentation, and (iv) Performance evaluation and validation. In this work, the merit of pre-trained CNN segmentation schemes is verified using (i) One-fold training and (ii) Two-fold training methods. The test images for this study are collected from The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) database. The experimental investigation is executed using Python®, and the outcome of this study confirms that the VGG-SegNet helps to get better values of Jaccard (>88%), Dice (>93%), and Accuracy (>96%) compared to other CNN methods. © 2023 The Authors. The eye is the prime sensory organ in physiology, and the abnormality in the eye severely influences the vision system. Therefore, eye irregularity is commonly assessed using imaging schemes, and Fundus Retinal Image (FRI) supported eye screening is one of the ophthalmological practices. This work proposed a Deep-Learning Procedure (DLP) to recognize Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) in FI. The proposed work presents the experimental work with different DLP methods found in the literature. This work is executed with two modes;(i) DR detection using conventional deep-features and (ii) DR discovery using deep ensemble features. To demonstrate this work, 1800 fundus images (900 regular and 900 DR class) are considered for the assessment, and the advantage of proposed plan is confirmed using various performance metrics. The experimental outcome of this study confirms that the AlexNet-based detection provides a better detection (>96%), and the deep ensemble features of AlexNet, VGG16, and ResNet18 provide a detection accuracy of >98% on the chosen FRI database. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. Lung cancer prediction using multi-gene genetic programming by selecting automatic features from amino acid sequences

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths. Early diagnosis of lung cancer using automatic feature selection from large number of features is a challenging task. Conventionally, cancer diagnosis approaches use physical features that appear in later stages, while harmful effects have already been occurred due to abnormal somatic mutations. In order to extract useful novel patterns to efficiently predict cancer at early stages, we analyzed lung cancer related mutated genes that reveal useful information in protein amino acid sequences. For this, we developed a new evolutionary learning technique with biologically inspired multi-gene genetic programming algorithm using discriminant information of protein amino acids. The proposed model efficiently selects 23 discriminant features out of 1500 features. Then it combines the selected features and related primitive functions optimally for prediction of lung cancer. Hence, an efficient predictive model is constructed that helps in understanding the complex heterogeneous nature of lung cancer. The proposed system achieved area under ROC curve and accuracy values of 98.79% and 95.67%, respectively outperforming related lung cancer prediction approaches. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

The emergence of cloud computing technology has motivated a very high number of users in different organizations to access its services in running and delivering their various operations and services. However, this surge of cloud users has led to the problem of uneven load sharing among the cloud computing infrastructures. As a result, federated cloud infrastructure was initiated to provide more cloud computing resources to accommodate more cloud users’ requests and also to provide equal requests mapping with the available cloud resources. Nevertheless, the issue of unequal allocation of requests within the datacenter(s) that makes up the federated cloud environment still persists. This research work presents an intra-datacenter load balancing algorithm in a federated cloud environment named; the intra-balancer adapted throttled algorithm to evenly distribute requests in each datacenter that formulate the federated cloud infrastructures. The simulation of the intra-balancer was carried out in CloudAnalyst, the results of the implementation showed that the intra-balancer outperformed the Round-Robin and ESCE with 98.93ms and 2.26ms for the response and processing time respectively. The results assert that the intra-balancer algorithm provides a better load balancing solution in a federated cloud environment.

This paper deals with the design and implementation of adaptive nonlinear predictive control (NMPC). The resulting control system is deployed on a softPLC embedded target in real-time via the REXYGEN control system. The paper describes functional prototype using softPLC hosting the NMPC algorithm applied for a nonlinear system consisting of three coupled tanks. The NMPC algorithm is solved via the receding horizon control method (RHC), formulated as a nonlinear programming problem (NLP) and numerically computed using the SOLNP solver. The adaptivity is provided by online identification via moving horizon estimation (MHE), keeping the model updated to avoid a model-plant mismatch. The methodology described in this paper can be easily transferred to a wider group of industrial nonlinear processes. Such created control unit can run in a standalone mode or can be connected to some exiting control system providing a necessary computational power and thus upgrading the quality of control significantly.

This article describes the estimation of a 3D point using a Kinect sensor and the Robot Operating System (ROS) along with You Only Look Once (YOLO) for object detection. The Kinect sensor provides RGB-D images, which are used to create a Point Cloud representing the geometry of the environment. ROS is used as a robotics development framework, while YOLO is employed to identify objects in the scene. The article presents the packages used, the datasets used for measurement, and the configuration of ROS and YOLO. Additionally, the functionalities of RViz, a 3D visualization tool used in the tests, are explored. Furthermore, it covers the methods employed, the acquired data, and an analysis of the error margin in relation to the measurement of the distance between the Kinect and the object. The findings and techniques presented in this study contribute to addressing the challenges faced in the RoboCup@Home competition, specifically in the context of object manipulation tasks.

Magnetic nanofibers are of great interest for applications like data transport and storage as well as in basic research. Especially bent nanofibers, which can unambiguously be produced by electrospinning, show a broad spectrum of possible magnetization reversal processes, depending on bending radius, geometry, magnetic field orientation, etc. Besides these quasistatic processes, dynamic investigations are necessary for investigating data transport properties of magnetic nanofibers. We report on domain wall transport through coupled bent nanowires, forming networks with multiple data inputs and outputs. Our results show diverse phenomena which have to be taken into account during these dynamic processes, such as domain wall instabilities or interference between converging signals, and suggest possible architectures of nanowire-based logics. ©2021 IEEE
