The high capacity and long-distance transmission ability are the major advantages of the high voltage DC transmission system using Line Commutated Converter, which makes it one of the major transmission approaches in our country. However, the single-time or consecutive commutation failures during the AC system fault are the main drawbacks of the HVDC transmission using LCC valve, severely affecting the normal operation and power transmission. In this case, a new type of controllable line commutated converter (CLCC), which is embedded with the power electronics IGBT forcing commutation, is applied to avoid the commutation failure, therefore preventing the disturbance caused by the commutation failure like the traditional HVDC transmission system using LCC valve. This paper proposes the adaptive control and protection approaches according to the operation characteristics of the CLCC, and the optimizing approaches are also provided to improve the performance of the HVDC transmission system. This article provides reference for the world’s first HVDC transmission system using CLCC.

This research develops an artificial intelligence-based model to predict the next deceptive movement of athletes by analyzing video sequences of previous movements. Utilizing advanced deep neural network models, we analyze deceptive movements to forecast the next move, with a practical application on the deceptive movements of a professional cricket player. The model employs machine learning techniques such as Random Forest (RF), Decision Trees (DT), and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) to enhance prediction accuracy. Achieving up to 70 % accuracy, this model rivals human capability, as even highly skilled players can easily fall for deceptive actions. The ability to predict deceptive movements sets humans apart from many intelligent creatures, allowing athletes to avoid predictable actions and gain an edge in various sports. This study applies this concept to cricket, leveraging video data to improve training methods. The results highlight the potential of artificial intelligence in revolutionizing training and performance optimization in sports. © 2025 The Authors

Learning activities are an indicator of the learner's desire to learn during the learning process. The pattern of learner action is related to learning activities. In this case, in extracting the learning process, it is necessary to collect a lot of data through analysis of the learning process. The purpose of this study is to recommend and report the performance of an activity tracking system equipped with visual artifacts as an educational data mining approach to analyze action patterns when learners complete the arrangement of program code lines in each programming problem. In this study, data were taken from activity recordings when learners used interactive learning media for a basic programming subject called TOLSYASUPI-EduMed which had problem-solving learning models embedded in their interactions. Learning Analytics is used as a method of this research and data relationships from learner actions during the learning process using the “if-then” rule. Log data is used for recording and detecting activities carried out by learners. We confirm that the results of the study are based on the findings of the data relationship that if the lines of program code are too long (more than five lines) then almost all learners experience a bottleneck condition. The completion time of each question and the number of iterations in completing the program code lines for each question have also been recorded and have a pattern of connection between the data. The information that has been obtained is then forwarded to teachers or stakeholders as key information to make appropriate feedback to learners based on the results as a means of analyzing and evaluating the programming learning process.

As humans, we hear sound every second of our life. The sound we hear is often affected by the acoustics of the environment surrounding us. For example, a spacious hall leads to more reverberation. Room Impulse Responses (RIR) are commonly used to characterize environment acoustics as a function of the scene geometry, materials, and source/receiver locations. Traditionally, RIRs are measured by setting up a loudspeaker and microphone in the environment for all source/receiver locations, which is time-consuming and inefficient. We propose to let two robots measure the environment's acoustics by actively moving and emitting/receiving sweep signals. We also devise a collaborative multi-agent policy where these two robots are trained to explore the environment's acoustics while being rewarded for wide exploration and accurate prediction. We show that the robots learn to collaborate and move to explore environment acoustics while minimizing the prediction error. To the best of our knowledge, we present the very first problem formulation and solution to the task of collaborative environment acoustics measurements with multiple agents. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

We use the IBMQ machine to implement a quantum database circuit. The database is made of a single multi-column table with multiple superposed records using Toffoli, CNOT and single quantum qubit gates. We present an optimized quantum circuit which allows us to select an item from the table, according to a specific oracle. Our circuit is based only on a single auxiliary qubit to perform the Selective Inversion (SI) and the Inversion Around the Average (IAA), which constitute the Grover operator. We analyze the difference between the generated transpired circuits while executing the original circuit on different IBMQ machines, namely the Melbourne and Athens quantum machines. We discuss the physical constraints causing the difference between the simulation on the composer and the executions of the circuits on the real IBMQ devices. © 2021 Copyright SPIE.

Diabetes Mellitus has no permanent cure to date and is one of the leading causes of death globally. The alarming increase in diabetes calls for the need to take precautionary measures to avoid/predict the occurrence of diabetes. This paper proposes HealthEdge, a machine learning-based smart healthcare framework for type 2 diabetes prediction in an integrated IoT-edge-cloud computing system. Numerical experiments and comparative analysis were carried out between the two most used machine learning algorithms in the literature, Random Forest (RF) and Logistic Regression (LR), using two real-life diabetes datasets. The results show that RF predicts diabetes with 6% more accuracy on average compared to LR. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Flying Ad hoc Network (FANET) consists of a group of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that fulfill a certain mission in various applications. The UAV targets uploading data to the 6G networks through communication to other UAVs or to the base station. UAVs collaborate for a purpose to achieve a certain mission in a faster and more reliable way compared to a single UAV. In critical cases such as flooding or earthquakes, one or more UAVs can be non-functional thus emerging a disconnected network. One of the most reliable routing schemes is clustering which splits the network into clusters. Every cluster incorporates a cluster-head and cluster-members. The selection of the cluster-head possesses a high influence on the routing scheme’s performance as it is responsible for all intra-cluster communication. A new clustered weighted scheme with a redundant cluster-head is proposed to ensure end-to-end communication in critical 6G infrastructures. The parameters of the weighted formula used for cluster establishment and primary cluster-head selection are the distance, the performance index, the speed, and the energy. A secondary cluster-head that automatically replaces the primary cluster-head whenever it is non-functional is selected based on the link reliability. The promising results obtained from MATlab simulation are discussed in section IV.

To support massive connectivity and boost spectral efficiency for internet of things (IoT), a downlink scheme combining virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is proposed. All the single-antenna IoT devices in each cluster cooperate with each other to establish a virtual MIMO entity, and multiple independent data streams are requested by each cluster. NOMA is employed to superimpose all the requested data streams, and each cluster leverages zero-forcing detection to de-multiplex the input data streams. Only statistical channel state information (CSI) is available at base station to avoid the waste of the energy and bandwidth on frequent CSI estimations. The outage probability and goodput of the virtual MIMO-NOMA system are thoroughly investigated by considering Kronecker model, which embraces both the transmit and receive correlations. Furthermore, the asymptotic results facilitate not only the exploration of physical insights but also the goodput maximization. In particular, the asymptotic outage expressions provide quantitative impacts of various system parameters and enable the investigation of diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT). Moreover, power allocation coefficients and/or transmission rates can be properly chosen to achieve the maximal goodput. By favor of Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions, the goodput maximization problems can be solved in closed-form, with which the joint power and rate selection is realized by using alternately iterating optimization. Besides, the optimization algorithms tend to allocate more power to clusters under unfavorable channel conditions and support clusters with higher transmission rate under benign channel conditions. © 2022, CC BY.

Software quality is critical, as low quality, or "Code smell," increases technical debt and maintenance costs. There is a timely need for a collaborative model that detects and manages code smells by learning from diverse and distributed data sources while respecting privacy and providing a scalable solution for continuously integrating new patterns and practices in code quality management. However, the current literature is still missing such capabilities. This paper addresses the previous challenges by proposing a Federated Learning Code Smell Detection (FedCSD) approach, specifically targeting "God Class," to enable organizations to train distributed ML models while safeguarding data privacy collaboratively. We conduct experiments using manually validated datasets to detect and analyze code smell scenarios to validate our approach. Experiment 1, a centralized training experiment, revealed varying accuracies across datasets, with dataset two achieving the lowest accuracy (92.30%) and datasets one and three achieving the highest (98.90% and 99.5%, respectively). Experiment 2, focusing on cross-evaluation, showed a significant drop in accuracy (lowest: 63.80%) when fewer smells were present in the training dataset, reflecting technical debt. Experiment 3 involved splitting the dataset across 10 companies, resulting in a global model accuracy of 98.34%, comparable to the centralized model’s highest accuracy. The application of federated ML techniques demonstrates promising performance improvements in code-smell detection, benefiting both software developers and researchers. Copyright © 2023, The Authors.
