Dirac cones (DCs) play a pivotal role in various unique phenomena ranging from massless electrons in graphene to robust surface states in topological insulators (TIs). Recent studies have theoretically revealed a full Dirac hierarchy comprising an eightfold bulk DC, a fourfold surface DC, and a twofold hinge DC, associated with a hierarchy of topological phases including first-order to third-order three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators, using the same 3D base lattice. Here, we report the first experimental observation of the Dirac hierarchy in 3D acoustic TIs. Using acoustic measurements, we unambiguously reveal that lifting of multifold DCs in each hierarchy can induce two-dimensional (2D) topological surface states with a fourfold DC in a first-order 3D TI, one-dimensional (1D) topological hinge states with a twofold DC in a second-order 3D TI, and zero-dimensional (0D) topological corner states in a third-order 3D TI. The escalating global incidence of malware presents critical cybersecurity threats to manufacturing, automation, and industrial process control systems. Given the fast-developing web applications and IoT devices in use by industry operations, securing a transparent and effective malware detection mechanism has become imperative to operational resilience and data integrity. Classical methods of malware detection are conventionally opaque “black boxes” with limited transparency, thus eroding trust and hindering deployment in security-sensitive contexts. In this respect, this research proposes MAL-XSEL—a malware detection framework using an explainable stacking ensemble learning approach for performing high-accuracy classification and interpretable decision-making. MAL-XSEL explicates the model predictions through Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) and local interpretable model-agnostic explanations (LIME), which enable security analysts to validate how the detection logic works and prioritize the features contributing to the most critical threats. Evaluated on two benchmark datasets, MAL-XSEL outperformed conventional machine learning models, achieving top accuracies of 99.62% (ClaMP dataset) and 99.16% (MalwareDataSet). Notably, it surpassed state-of-the-art algorithms such as LightGBM (99.52%), random forest (99.33%), and decision trees (98.89%) across both datasets while maintaining computational efficiency. A unique interaction of ensemble learning and XAI is employed for detection, not only with improved accuracy but also with interpretable insight into the behavior of malware, thereby allowing trust to be substantiated in an automated system. By closing the divide between performance and interpretability, MAL-XSEL enables cybersecurity practitioners to deploy transparent and auditable defenses against an ever-growing resource of threats. Bring game characters to the social space: Developing storytelling community AI agents driven by LLMs

AI agents driven by Large Language Models (LLMs) are now ubiquitous in our daily life, so can they bring characters from games into reality? We address the integration of storytelling and AI agents driven by LLMs to develop engaging and believable fictional characters in community settings. Motivated by the potential of fictional characters to enhance social interactions, we introduce Storytelling Community AI Agents (SCAs) and the concept of story engineering to transform fictional game characters into ”live” social entities within player communities. Our story engineering process includes three steps: (1) Character and story creation, defining the SCA’s personality and worldview, (2) Presenting Live Stories to the Community, allowing the agent to recount challenges and seek suggestions, and (3) Communication with community members, enabling interaction between the agent and users. We employed the LLM GPT-3 to drive our SCAs, “David” and “Catherine,” and evaluated their performance in an online gaming community, “DE (Alias),” on Discord. Our mixed-method analysis, based on questionnaires (N=15) and interviews (N=8) with community members, reveals that storytelling significantly enhances the engagement and believability of AI agents in community settings.

The widely deployed passive optical network (PON) is a cost-effective way to create a front/backhaul carrier for ubiquitous wireless access connectivity. To hide the difference of frame formats and multiplexing methods, an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access PON (OFDMA-PON) was proposed. In upstream transmission, multiple optical network units (ONUs) from the same segment or residential area can transmit data through a shared group of orthogonal low-bitrate subcarriers (SCs) during different time slots (TSs) within the entire transmitting period. In downstream transmission, the optical line terminal can send control signaling of reconfiguring ONUs' parameters so that SCs can be reallocated among segments, thus sleeping segments with empty data load while ensuring service continuity. Though energy savings can be ensured for upstream data transmission by using existing solutions, only frequency and time domains are involved. It is meaningful for us to make the flexible and energy- efficient configuration of transmitting power and modulation level assigned for ONUs in terms of improving energy efficiency. In this paper, we investigate joint resource allocation for energy-efficient upstream data transmission in OFDMA-PONs, with the help of software-based ONU reconfiguration. We formulate the problem, and the upper bound of energy saving is also derived. To solve the problem in a short span of time, we propose a novel heuristic algorithm whose effectiveness has been demonstrated by extensive simulations. © 2018 OSA.

This study presents our approach on the automatic Vietnamese image captioning for healthcare domain in text processing tasks of Vietnamese Language and Speech Processing (VLSP) Challenge 2021, as shown in Figure 1. In recent years, image captioning often employs a convolutional neural network-based architecture as an encoder and a long short-term memory (LSTM) as a decoder to generate sentences. These models perform remarkably well in different datasets. Our proposed model also has an encoder and a decoder, but we instead use a Swin Transformer in the encoder, and a LSTM combined with an attention module in the decoder. The study presents our training experiments and techniques used during the competition. Our model achieves a BLEU4 score of 0.293 on the vietCap4H dataset, and the score is ranked the 3rd place on the private leaderboard. Our code can be found at https://***/JDdJm. © 2022, CC BY.

Compared with conventional topological insulator that carries topological state at its boundaries, the higher-order topological insulator exhibits lower-dimensional gapless boundary states at its corners and hinges. Leveraging the form similarity between Schrödinger equation and diffusion equation, researches on higher-order topological insulators have been extended from condensed matter physics to thermal diffusion. Unfortunately, all the corner states of thermal higher-order topological insulator reside within the band gap. Another kind of corner state, which is embedded in the bulk states, has not been realized in pure diffusion systems so far. Here, we construct higher-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger models based on sphere-rod structure to elucidate these corner states, which we term "in-bulk corner states". Due to the antiHermitian properties of diffusive Hamiltonian, we investigate the thermal behaviour of these corner states through theoretical calculation, simulation, and experiment. Furthermore, we study the different thermal behaviours of in-bulk corner state and in-gap corner state. Our results would open a different gate for diffusive topological states and provide a distinct application for efficient heat dissipation. © 2022, CC BY.

Recent progress in material data mining has been driven by high-capacity models trained on large ***,collecting experimental data(real data)has been extremely costly owing to the amount of human effort and expertise ***,we develop a novel transfer learning strategy to address problems of small or insufficient *** strategy realizes the fusion of real and simulated data and the augmentation of training data in a data mining *** a specific task of grain instance image segmentation,this strategy aims to generate synthetic data by fusing the images obtained from simulating the physical mechanism of grain formation and the“image style”information in real *** results show that the model trained with the acquired synthetic data and only 35%of the real data can already achieve competitive segmentation performance of a model trained on all of the real *** the time required to perform grain simulation and to generate synthetic data are almost negligible as compared to the effort for obtaining real data,our proposed strategy is able to exploit the strong prediction power of deep learning without significantly increasing the experimental burden of training data preparation.

Two-timescale resource allocation for cooperative D2D communication: A matching game approach

In this paper, we consider a cooperative device-to-device (D2D) communication system, where the D2D transmitters (DTs) act as relays to assist the densified cellular network users (CUs) for transmission quality of service (QoS) improvement. The proposed system achieves a win-win situation, i.e. improving the spectrum efficiency of the CUs that cannot meet their rate requirement while providing spectrum access for D2D pairs. Unlike previous works, to reduce the overhead, we design a novel two-timescale resource allocation scheme, in which the pairing between CUs and D2D pairs is decided at a long timescale and transmission time for CU and D2D pair is determined at a short timescale. Specifically, to characterize the long-term payoff of each potential CU-D2D pair, we investigate the optimal cooperation policy to decide the transmission time based on the instantaneous channel state information (CSI). We prove that the optimal policy is a threshold policy which can be achieved via binary search. Since CUs and D2D pairs are self-interested, they are paired only when they agree to cooperate mutually. Therefore, to study the cooperation behaviors of CUs and D2D pairs, we formulate the pairing problem as a matching game, based on the long-term payoff achieved by the optimal cooperation policy of each possible pairing. Furthermore, unlike most previous matching models in D2D networks, we allow transfer between CUs and D2D pairs to improve the performance. To solve the pairing problem, a distributed algorithm is proposed, which converges to an ǫ-stable matching. We show that there is a tradeoff between the optimality and the computational complexity of the algorithm. We also analyze the algorithm in terms of the robustness to the unilateral deviation of D2D pairs. Finally, the simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed matching algorithm. The advent of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software-defined radars (SDRs) has enabled low-cost, flexible experimentation with emerging pulse-agile waveform designs to mitigate spectral congestion, improve radar performance, embed communications, and other applications. We examine the impact of direct digital downconversion sampling imperfections in the form of IQ imbalance and DC bias on pulse-agile waveforms. A general framework is developed and examples given for a particular radar-embedded communication waveform. It is shown that the clutter response due to IQ imbalance is significantly increased in a pulse agile framework.
