This paper is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in fault tolerance methods for cloud computing. Maintaining high availability and reliability of cloud environments requires fault tolerance. This paper explores fault tolerance in the context of cloud computing and discusses recent challenges and innovations in the field. Moreover, it examines the ongoing research efforts to improve fault-tolerance architectures. The growing necessity for enhanced processing capabilities in edge devices with limited resources has led us to develop effective methods for improving high-performance computing (HPC) applications. In this paper, we introduce LASP (Lightweight Autotuning of Scientific Application Parameters), a novel strategy designed to address the parameter search space challenge in edge devices. Our strategy employs a multi-armed bandit (MAB) technique focused on online exploration and exploitation. Notably, LASP takes a dynamic approach, adapting seamlessly to changing environments. We tested LASP with four HPC applications: Lulesh, Kripke, Clomp, and Hypre. Its lightweight nature makes it particularly well-suited for resource-constrained edge devices. By employing the MAB framework to efficiently navigate the search space, we achieved significant performance improvements while adhering to the stringent computational limits of edge devices. Our experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of LASP in optimizing parameter search on edge devices. © 2024 IEEE.

Pneumonia, a widespread lung ailment, stands as a leading global cause of mortality, particularly affecting vulnerable demographics such as children under five, the elderly, and individuals with underlying health conditions. Accounting for a significant portion of childhood fatalities, at 18%, pneumonia remains a critical health concern. Despite advancements in imaging diagnostic methods, chest radiographs remain pivotal due to their cost-effectiveness and rapid results. The proposed model, trained on data sourced from a readily available Kaggle database, consists of two primary stages: image preprocessing and feature extraction/image classification. Utilizing a CNN model, the framework achieves remarkable performance metrics, with precision, recall, F1-score, and accuracy reaching 93%, 96%, 94%, and 96%, respectively. These results underscore the CNN model's effectiveness in pneumonia detection, showcasing superior consistency and accuracy compared to other pretrained deep learning models. Most of the images on the Internet are color images, and steganalysis of color images is a very critical issue in the field of steganalysis. The current proposed color image steganalysis features mainly rely on manual design, and the steganalysis features do not fully consider the internal connections between the three channels of color images. Most steganalyzers based on deep learning are also designed for grayscale images. In recent years, the continuous introduction of advanced steganography techniques for color images has also brought more severe challenges to the steganography analysis of color images. Quaternions are a tool that can effectively represent color images, and utilizing quaternion transformations can fully exploit the correlation between color image channels. Combining quaternion theory with convolutional neural networks, this paper proposed a color image steganalysis algorithm based on quaternion convolutional neural networks. Firstly, the image is represented by quaternion, and then input into the quaternion convolutional neural network. The convolution kernel in the network is composed of quaternions, and then perform convolution and pooling. Incomplete hybrid information systems (IHISs) contain hybrid data (e.g., categorical data, numerical data) and incomplete data. With the development of big data, IHISs widely exist in various practical applications. Due to the heterogeneity of hybrid data and the complex semantics of incomplete data, effectively processing the IHIS has become a significant challenge. The established indiscernibility relations of the existing studies for dealing with IHIS over-amplify the uncertainty of missing values, which may achieve unsatisfactory results. In this paper, we propose an approximate supplement-based neighborhood rough set model (AS-NRSM) to deal with the data of IHISs. Specifically, we propose a method to approximate supplement missing values with known values or constructed interval values, and the original IHIS is becoming the constructed IHIS*. Then, we formulate a novel similarity function to construct the improved neighborhood tolerance relation and the corresponding neighborhood tolerance classes. Finally, we design two experiments on 5 UCI data sets by introducing three performance metrics. We explore the use of quantum generative adversarial networks QGANs for modeling eye movement velocity data. We assess whether the advanced computational capabilities of QGANs can enhance the modeling of complex stochastic distribution beyond the traditional mathematical models, particularly the Markov model. The findings indicate that while QGANs demonstrate potential in approximating complex distributions, the Markov model consistently outperforms in accurately replicating the real data distribution. This comparison underlines the challenges and avenues for refinement in time series data generation using quantum computing techniques. It emphasizes the need for further optimization of quantum models to better align with real-world data characteristics. © 2024 is held by the owner/author(s).

Capturing and maintaining geometric interactions among different body parts is crucial for successful motion retargeting in skinned characters. Existing approaches often overlook body geometries or add a geometry correction stage after skeletal motion retargeting. This results in conflicts between skeleton interaction and geometry correction, leading to issues such as jittery, interpenetration, and contact mismatches. To address these challenges, we introduce a new retargeting framework, MeshRet, which directly models the dense geometric interactions in motion retargeting. Initially, we establish dense mesh correspondences between characters using semantically consistent sensors (SCS), effective across diverse mesh topologies. Subsequently, we develop a novel spatio-temporal representation called the dense mesh interaction (DMI) field. This field, a collection of interacting SCS feature vectors, skillfully captures both contact and non-contact interactions between body geometries. By aligning the DMI field during retargeting, MeshRet not only preserves motion semantics but also prevents self-interpenetration and ensures contact preservation. Extensive experiments on the public Mixamo dataset and our newly-collected ScanRet dataset demonstrate that MeshRet achieves state-of-the-art performance. Parallel programs in high performance computing (HPC) continue to grow in complexity and scale in the exascale era. The diversity in hardware and parallel programming models make developing, optimizing, and maintaining parallel software even more burdensome for developers. One way to alleviate some of these burdens is with automated development and analysis tools. Such tools can perform complex and/or remedial tasks for developers that increase their productivity and decrease the chance for error. Until recently, such tools for code development and performance analysis have been limited in the complexity of tasks they can perform, especially for parallel programs. However, with recent advancements in language modeling, and the availability of large amounts of open-source code related data, these tools have started to utilize predictive language models to automate more complex tasks. In this paper, we show how large language models (LLMs) can be applied to tasks specific to high performance and scientific codes. We introduce a new dataset of HPC and scientific codes and use it to fine-tune several pre-trained models. We compare several pre-trained LLMs on HPC-related tasks and introduce a new model, HPC-Coder, fine-tuned on parallel codes. In our experiments, we show that this model can auto-complete HPC functions where generic models cannot, decorate for loops with OpenMP pragmas, and model performance changes in scientific application repositories as well as programming competition solutions. © 2024 Research Paper Proceedings of the ISC High Performance 2024. In the growing field of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), securing the transmission of medical images over public networks is a critical challenge. Medical images, being highly sensitive and often containing personally identifiable information, require robust protection against unauthorized access and tampering. This paper addresses this challenge by introducing a novel cryptosystem specifically tailored to the resource limitations inherent in IoMT environments. To meet the demand for protecting sensitive information in medical images, the proposed system integrates two layers of security: spatial watermarking and asymmetric encryption. At the core of our approach lies a newly developed, cost-effective spatial watermarking algorithm that seamlessly embeds watermarks within host images to facilitate tamper detection. Complementing this, we employ a resource-efficient Twin Message Fusion (TMF) encryption scheme to ensure confidentiality and integrity during transmission. The proposed cryptosystem is evaluated for both watermarking effectiveness and encryption robustness. Additionally, we assess the system’s suitability for IoMT environments in terms of cost-effectiveness. Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) metrics have been used to assess watermarking resilience against various attacks, while encryption efficacy is analyzed through histogram and entropy evaluations. Furthermore, we compare the complexity of our cryptosystem with five recently proposed techniques in both traditional and IoMT environments, demonstrating superior execution time, reduced image size, and enhanced encryption efficiency. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
