An Algorithm for Constructing Feature Relations between the Classes in the Trading Set

In this paper, we propose a new approach for determining the feature relations between classes to solving a problem of classification on based (precedents of) training set. The main Idea of this approach is the selection of best features for object classification in the condition of increasing the number of classes and features in the training set. For this, pay attention to two criteria: increase the recognition quality and reduce the number of calculations by removing non-informative features.

Quality and readability of online information resources on insomnia

The internet is a major source for health information. An increasing number of people, including patients with insomnia, search for remedies online; however, little is known about the quality of such information. This study aimed to evaluate the quality and readability of insomnia-related online information. Google was used as the search engine, and the top websites on insomnia that met the inclusion criteria were evaluated for quality and readability. The analyzed websites belonged to nonprofit, commercial, or academic organizations and institutions such as hospitals and universities. Insomnia-related websites typically included definitions （85%）, causes and risk factors （100%）, symptoms （95%）, and treatment options （90%）. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia （CBT-I） was the most commonly recommended approach for insomnia treatment, and sleep drugs are frequently mentioned. The overall quality of the websites on insomnia is moderate, but all the content exceeded the recommended reading ease levels. Concerns that must be addressed to increase the quality and trustworthiness of online health information include sharing metadata, such as authorship, time of creation and last update, and conflicts of interest; providing evidence for reliability; and increasing the readability for a layman audience.

The need for robust, rapid, disposable and low-cost detection of viruses and bacteria has become paramount for medical diagnosis, environment control or food industry. Refractive index (RI) sensing functionalized with specific antibodies offers a promising detection mechanism. With this technique in mind we developed sensors based either in surface plasmon resonance or in evanescent wave, driven by a LED-photodiode pair or smartphone technology. Good results were obtained for measuring refractive index and bacteria such as Desulfovibrio alaskensis and Escherichia coli. The use of a simple U-bent sensor allows a viable alternative for mass production, leading to a highly robust and machinable sensor and ease probe fabrication allowing low cost and good repeatability.

Background: Despite major advances in artificial intelligence (AI) research for healthcare, the deployment and adoption of AI technologies remain limited in clinical practice. In recent years, concerns have been raised about the clinical, technical, ethical and legal risks associated with healthcare AI. To increase adoption in the real world, it is essential that AI technologies are trusted and accepted by patients, clinicians, health organisations and authorities. This paper describes the FUTURE-AI framework as the first international consensus guideline for trustworthy AI in healthcare. Methods: The FUTURE-AI consortium was founded in 2021 and now comprises 117 interdisciplinary experts from 50 countries representing all continents, including AI scientists, clinical researchers, biomedical ethicists, and social scientists. Over a two-year period, the consortium established guiding principles and best practices for trustworthy and deployable AI through an iterative process comprising an in-depth literature review, a modified Delphi survey, and online consensus meetings. Findings: The FUTURE-AI framework was established based on six guiding principles for trustworthy AI in healthcare, i.e. Fairness, Universality, Traceability, Usability, Robustness and Explainability. Through consensus, a set of 30 best practices were defined, addressing technical, clinical, socio-ethical and legal dimensions of trustworthy AI. The recommendations cover the entire lifecycle of healthcare AI, from design, development and validation to regulation, deployment, and monitoring. Interpretation: FUTURE-AI is a structured, risk-informed framework which provides guidance for constructing healthcare AI tools that will be trusted, deployed and adopted in real-world clinical practice. Researchers are encouraged to take the recommendations into account in proof-of-concept stages to facilitate future translation towards clinical practice of healthcare AI. Local directional pattern (LDP) based methods for frontal face recognition are considered in this paper. LDP based face feature extraction and comparison methods and their performance results are given. The method for normalizing illuminations of face images is given. The results of experimental research of the developed algorithms are presented. The positive properties of LDP operator and recognition algorithms are determined. The comparative analysis of the results of recognition, which uses local operators, is done.

Across the United States, industry, education and government stakeholders are redefining their partnerships in order to address and reduce critical skill gaps in the current workforce. This represents a paradigm shift in technical and professional education, as well as the collaborative processes utilized in creating and maintaining complex multi-stakeholder talent development systems. In doing so, however, this paradigm shift also presents a huge challenge: education and public sectors are typically not familiar with matured product development and (project) management principles and often do not apply proven industry practices to the definition, design, delivery and improvement of their educational products. The evaluation, acceptance and ultimate implementation of those principles departs from the traditional (United States) culture of education, as it applies new instructional design processes, change implementation processes, and feedback/assessment models. Therefore, critical review of such methods, innovative development of transfer options and human factors management in successfully achieving the required systems change were identified, and include explanation, understanding, acceptance, personal development, and trust. Using a case study approach, this paper will analyze several highly visible and innovative adaptations of industry and educational standards which were accepted and released by all relevant stakeholders. By leveraging subject matter experts from both the industry and academic settings, Michigan Advanced Technician Training (MAT 2 ) formed organizational and working teams comprised of the primary government, industry, and academic stakeholder groups and established a workable context for a knowledge transfer of best practice industry standards. For the first time, a suite of three lidar sensors have been used in flight to scan a lunar- like hazard field, identify a safe landing site, and, in concert with an experimental Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) system, help to guide the Morpheus autonomous, rocket- propelled, free-flying lander to that safe site on the hazard field. The lidar sensors and GN&C system are part of the Autonomous Precision Landing and Hazard Detection and Avoidance Technology (ALHAT) project which has been seeking to develop a system capable of enabling safe, precise crewed or robotic landings in challenging terrain on planetary bodies under any ambient lighting conditions. The 3-D imaging Flash Lidar is a second generation, compact, real-time, air-cooled instrument developed from a number of components from industry and NASA and is used as part of the ALHAT Hazard Detection System (HDS) to scan the hazard field and build a 3-D Digital Elevation Map (DEM) in near-real time for identifying safe sites. The Flash Lidar is capable of identifying a 30 cm hazard from a slant range of 1 km with its 8 cm range precision (1-a). The Flash Lidar is also used in Hazard Relative Navigation (HRN) to provide position updates down to a 250m slant range to the ALHAT navigation filter as it guides Morpheus to the safe site. The Navigation Doppler Lidar (NDL) system has been developed within NASA to provide velocity measurements with an accuracy of 0.2 cm/sec and range measurements with an accuracy of 17 cm both from a maximum range of 2,200 m to a minimum range of several meters above the ground. The NDL’s measurements are fed into the ALHAT navigation filter to provide lander guidance to the safe site. The Laser Altimeter (LA), also developed within NASA, provides range measurements with an accuracy of 5 cm from a maximum operational range of 30 km down to 1 m and, being a separate sensor from the Flash Lidar, can provide range along a separate vector. Global nature of multinational organizations pose a different set of challenges in an effective adoption of software engineering tools. software projects are spread across multiple geographies and tools are deployed globally in these organizations. Global tool deployment is often motivated by an attractive enterprise cost of the tool. Moreover, it helps in harmonizing practices across development groups and useful in establishing benchmarks without further normalizations. There are various parameters to drive a successful tool deployment in a global setup. For example, a good roll out plan, knowledge sharing platform, coordination and trust building among the change agents from different geographies, and a good central support. In this paper, we present our experience of a global roll out of a software engineering tool in a large organization. It has been observed that besides tool's features, factors such as knowledge sharing, active feedback, and training plays an important role in an effective tool deployment.

In order to maximize cost and quality gains, industrial automation systems need to incorporate the best practices of software engineering in their application development process. However, this requires the right set of tools and methodologies that cater to the needs of the automation domain. While there have been a few efforts towards applying state-of-the-art software engineering tools and techniques to the automation domain, these have not been universally adopted. This paper discusses some of the challenges in adopting software engineering principles for industrial automation application development. Further, the paper presents a case for research activities to look for more practical solutions for industrial applications.

This paper proposes the model-free PI control design for direct current (DC) drives. A model-free PI control system structure is considered in the framework of reference tracking control using a first-order nonlinear dynamic system as a local approximation of the process model. The derivatives are estimated numerically using a Savitzky-Golay filter that solves the differentiation and also the smoothing. The model-free PI control system structure is applied to the speed control of a laboratory nonlinear DC drive as a representative mechatronics application. The experimental results for three different reference input shapes show the very good performance in model reference tracking, reference trajectory tracking and numerical differentiation.
