An Experimental Study on Dynamic Lifelong Learning with GPT for Mitigating Catastrophic Forgetting in Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis

GPT is widely recognized as one of the most versatile and powerful large language models, excelling across diverse domains. However, its significant computational demands often render it economically unfeasible for individuals and small businesses, underscoring the need for efficient, domain-specific alternatives. In Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA), existing models are typically optimized for single domains, facing challenges in performing effectively across multiple domains. A key issue, known as "catastrophic forgetting,"arises when models trained on one domain lose previously learned knowledge upon exposure to new domain data. This leads to two significant problems: limited cross-domain generalization and difficulty in retaining prior knowledge while learning domain-specific information. To address these challenges, we introduce the Dynamic Lifelong Learning Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis GPT (DllaGPT), a model designed to handle multiple domains while mitigating catastrophic forgetting. Leveraging datasets from four ABSA domains - Laptops, Restaurants, Tweets, and Finance - this study fine-tunes a pretrained GPT model from HuggingFace sequentially across domains. DllaGPT employs a mechanism to retain real data from earlier domains during new domain training, effectively preserving prior knowledge. Experimental results highlight that DllaGPT achieves an average accuracy of 0.85 and a Backward Transfer (BWT) score of -0.09 across the four domains, showcasing its high accuracy and robust lifelong learning capabilities. © 2013 IEEE.

A Package Level Regression Test Selection Approach for Java software systems

Regression testing of software systems is an important and critical activity yet expensive and resource-intensive. An approach to enhance its efficiency is Regression Test Selection (RTS), which selectively re-executes a subset of relevant tests that are impacted by code modifications. Previous studies on static and dynamic RTS for Java software have shown that selecting tests at the class level is more effective than using finer granularities like methods or statements. Nevertheless, RTS at the package level, which is a coarser granularity than class level, has not been thoroughly investigated or evaluated for Java projects. To address this gap, we propose PKRTS, a static package-level RTS approach that utilizes the structural dependencies of the software system under test to construct a package-level dependency graph. PKRTS analyzes dependencies in the graph and identifies relevant tests that can reach modified packages, i.e., packages containing altered classes. In contrast to conventional static RTS techniques, PKRTS implicitly considers dynamic dependencies, such as Java reflection and virtual method calls, among classes belonging to the same package by treating all those classes as a single cohesive node in the dependency graph. We evaluated PKRTS on 885 revisions of 9 open-source Java projects, with its performance compared to Ekstazi, a state-of-the-art dynamic class-level approach, and STARTS, a state-of-the-art static class-level approach. We used Ekstazi as the baseline to measure the safety and precision violations of PKRTS and STARTS. The results indicated that PKRTS outperformed static class-level RTS in terms of safety violation, which measures the extent to which relevant test cases are missed. PKRTS showed an average safety violation of 2.29% compared to 5.94% safety violation of STARTS. A mathematical multi-objective optimization model and metaheuristic algorithm for effective advertising in the social internet of things

The integration of social networks with the Internet of Things (IoT) has been explored in recent research, giving rise to the Social Internet of Things (SIoT). One promising application of SIoT is viral marketing, which plays a critical role in modern advertising. However, current solutions proposed for viral marketing are often impractical in real-world scenarios, and there has been limited investigation into viral marketing within the context of SIoT. To address this issue, we present a multi-objective integer linear programming model named ILP-ASoT that facilitates advertising through SIoT. Our approach introduces two realistic parameters: the node sociality rate and the node appropriateness rate as an advertising destination. By balancing the cost of selecting a seed set with the number of users who receive the advertisement, our model offers an appropriate trade-off. Since this is proven as an NP-hard problem, A PSO-based metaheuristic algorithm is proposed to provide near-optimal solutions for advertising in SIoT, called PSO-ASoT. Through simulations, we show that our PSO-ASoT algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms in several metrics, such as influence spread, advertising cost, and duplicated advertising rate. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Static Analysis Techniques for Fixing software Defects in MPI-Based Parallel Programs

The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a widely accepted standard for parallel computing on distributed ***, MPI implementations can contain defects that impact the reliability and performance of parallelapplications. Detecting and correcting these defects is crucial, yet there is a lack of published models specificallydesigned for correctingMPI defects. To address this, we propose a model for detecting and correcting MPI defects(DC_MPI), which aims to detect and correct defects in various types of MPI communication, including blockingpoint-to-point (BPTP), nonblocking point-to-point (NBPTP), and collective communication (CC). The defectsaddressed by the DC_MPI model include illegal MPI calls, deadlocks (DL), race conditions (RC), and messagemismatches (MM). To assess the effectiveness of the DC_MPI model, we performed experiments on a datasetconsisting of 40 MPI codes. The results indicate that the model achieved a detection rate of 37 out of 40 codes,resulting in an overall detection accuracy of 92.5%. Additionally, the execution duration of the DC_MPI modelranged from 0.81 to 1.36 s. These findings show that the DC_MPI model is useful in detecting and correctingdefects in MPI implementations, thereby enhancing the reliability and performance of parallel applications. TheDC_MPImodel fills an important research gap and provides a valuable tool for improving the quality ofMPI-basedparallel computing systems.

Robust steganographic approach using generative adversarial network and compressive autoencoder

Nowadays, social media applications and websites have become a crucial part of people’s lives;for sharing their moments, contacting their families and friends, or even for their jobs. However, the fact that these valuable data are transferred via the Internet and open channels, which are vulnerable to attacks and espionage, requires using defense methods to improve the security of data transmission. Recently, the progress of Deep Learning (DL) inspired researchers to use it with security methods such as steganography, the art of hiding secret data in unrelated content. DL and steganography combined enhanced the hiding properties, especially in the Coverless Image Steganography (CIS) methods. In this paper, we propose a Compressive Coverless Image Steganography (CCIS) model, which is a generated-based CIS, to improve the capacity and robustness of Steganography. This model uses the compressive autoencoder to compress the message, thus increasing the capacity, and uses the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to generate a stego image from the compressed vector, thus enhancing concealment ability, besides using a regression model and optimization method to extract the data. Another version was designed to enable sending binary messages by replacing the compressive autoencoder network with a robust mapping rule. Experiments show that the proposed model could improve the characteristics of Steganography. Furthermore, the proposed model could extract binary messages with 256 bits from attacked stego images with 99% recovery accuracy. Thus, capacity and robustness were enhanced using our model with both images and text as secret messages. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Poverty is considered a serious global issue that must be immediately eradicated by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, namely ending poverty anywhere and in any form. As a developing country, poverty is a complex issue faced by Indonesia. Tackling poverty in Indonesia has become a key focus of the government’s strategic priorities. This issue of poverty is experienced by all provinces in Indonesia, including Central Java. The poverty rate in Central Java stands at 10.77% or 3.79 million people. The causes of poverty are explained by several factors. Using these various factors, a mapping model can be conducted to determine the number of poor populations in Central Java. This research employs Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) and Mixed Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) approaches to compare the effectiveness of these models in analyzing the number of poor populations in Central Java in 2023. The kernel function weighting used in this study is Fixed Gaussian. The results showed that the MGWR model outperformed both the OLS regression and GWR models, achieving an Akaike information Criterion (AIC) of 62.766, an R2 of 82.3%, and a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.177. Consequently, it can be inferred that the MGWR model was more suitable for explaining the poverty levels in Central Java. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). All Rights Reserved.

The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread rapidly around the world and caused overwhelming effects on the health and economy of the world. It first appeared in Wuhan city of China and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Many researchers, as well as experts in clinical and artificial intelligence experts, are working together to control the rapid spread of COVID-19 with early detection. This study focused on intelligent prediction for coronavirus using computational intelligence approaches (IPC-FCIA) like convolutional neural networks, support vector machines, and fuzzy logic techniques. The proposed IPC-FCIA model is based on two sections namely the training section and the validation section. Features fusion and decision-level fusion are used in this study to enhance the performance of the recommended IPC-FCIA model. The proposed model predicts the early detection of COVID-19 in two types COVID-negative and COVID-positive. The benchmark results of the model show an accuracy of 97.66 % on decision-level fusion in the detection of COVID-19. The proposed model can be helpful for medical experts as well as COVID-19-affected patients. © 2025 Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea. All rights reserved.

Modeling the Percentage of NEET in Indonesia with Spatial Cauchy Regression through the Bayesian Analysis Approach

Indonesia has entered a period of demographic bonus. Human resources must be optimized. The number of children who do not in employment, education or training (NEET) in each province needs attention. Several factors that could contribute to the decline in the NEET percentage are literacy rates and the number of adolescents with computer skills. Increasing these two factors is believed to be able to reduce the percentage of NEET in every province in Indonesia. To find out the relationship between these two factors and how much influence they have on the percentage of NEET, this research is modeled by Cauchy regression and includes spatial effects. The results of the analysis show that the best model is when the spatial effect is modeled by Fernandez Steel Skew Normal conditionally autoregressive (FSSN CAR). This result is seen from the smallest value of the Watanabe Akaike information Criterion (WAIC) in this model, which is 190.5. The parameter estimated shows that the higher the literacy rate and the number of adolescents with computer skills, the lower the percentage of NEET in each province in Indonesia. The results of this research can be useful for the Indonesian government to increase the number of educational facilities related to these two factors. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). A systematic Literature Review on the Security Attacks and Countermeasures Used in Graphical Passwords

This systematic literature review delves into the dynamic realm of graphical passwords, focusing on the myriad security attacks they face and the diverse countermeasures devised to mitigate these threats. The core objective of this paper is to identify existing security threats to graphical password schemes and the corresponding countermeasures developed to mitigate these attacks. The study process begins by identifying the usable databases and search engines to identify all the relevant resources. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were carefully selected to prioritize the study, focusing mostly on attacks and countermeasures related to graphical password schemes between 2009 and 2023. After thorough identification and selection progress, 59 studies met all the criteria. Among these studies, 47 mentioned shoulder surfing as a threat to graphical password schemes, while 20 discussed brute force attacks. Additionally, there were 21 papers on dictionary attacks, 13 on smudge attacks, spyware attacks, and social engineering, and 19 that discussed guessing attacks as threats to graphical password schemes. Furthermore, the papers identified several other attacks, including frequency of occurrence analysis attacks, video recording, eavesdropping, computer vision, sonar, and image gallery attacks, with the corresponding numbers of papers being 9, 17, 5, 2, 2, and 1, respectively. The results also highlight the countermeasures proposed in the study papers to mitigate the aforementioned attacks. Among the various countermeasures identified, most revolve around randomization, obfuscation, and password space complexity as the most commonly used techniques for enhancing the security of graphical password schemes. © 2013 IEEE.
