The face mask is an essential sanitaryware in daily lives growing during the pandemic period and is a big threat to current face recognition systems. The masks destroy a lot of details in a large area of face, and it makes it difficult to recognize them even for humans. The evaluation report shows the difficulty well when recognizing masked faces. Rapid development and breakthrough of deep learning in the recent past have witnessed most promising results from face recognition algorithms. But they fail to perform far from satisfactory levels in the unconstrained environment during the challenges such as varying lighting conditions, low resolution, facial expressions, pose variation and occlusions. Facial occlusions are considered one of the most intractable problems. Especially when the occlusion occupies a large region of the face because it destroys lots of official features. © 2022, CC BY.

Diabetes related complications such as Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU) may necessitate recurrent hospitalisations and expensive treatments. Uncontrolled diabetes can result in severe DFUs, resulting in amputation of lower limbs or feet, prolonged debilitation and diminished quality of life. Early diagnosis and proactive management are reported to significantly enhance the prognosis and reduce the onset of further complications. In this study, research works on developing clinical decision support systems (CDSS) for the identification and segmentation of DFU are systematically reviewed. The techniques employed range from traditional image processing techniques to approaches based on deep learning (DL). A taxonomy of DFU CDSSs is presented, categorised into two groups: RGB-based techniques and thermal imaging-based approaches. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt at a comprehensive study of CDSSs for DFU related investigative tasks, based on different imaging modalities. We also delve into the difficulties experienced in the process of creating efficient, reliable, and accurate models for the early detection of DFU, and highlight the vast potential for further research in this emerging domain. © (2023), (International Association of Engineers). Cardiac patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillator devices frequently exhibit signs of anxiety and depression (termed "Distressed"). Early detection of these patients is vital for evaluation, intervention, and prevention against relapse. Considering the growing datasets relevant to distress, coupled with the evolution of machine learning methodologies, there exists a promising prospect to develop intelligent systems for the detection of distressed cardiac patients through written materials. In this context, data from two sources were collected: a questionnaire and text communication messages, acquired through the randomized ACQUIRE-ICD study of 168 participants. These textual messages were labelled as either Distressed or Non-Distressed based on questionnaire responses. Following preprocessing, the dataset facilitated the development of transformer-based classification models, including mBERT, XLM-RoBERTa, ÆLÆCTRA, and RøBERTa, as well as a hard voting ensemble method to classify patients into Distressed and Non-Distressed categories. To address imbalances in class distribution and dataset scarcity, a data augmentation method was employed. Results indicated the superior performance of the proposed hard voting ensemble, recording weighted metrics of 80% precision, 67% recall, 73% F1-score, and 75% accuracy. Notably, this ensemble correctly identified 67% of Distressed samples, while the most efficient base transformer, mBERT, identified 63% of Distressed samples.

Some methods in the world university ranking institutions still have weaknesses. Among the university rankings, Webometrics focused on quantitative studies related to website and content phenomena and is considered easy to measure because it bases ranking criteria on university activities on the internet. On the webometrics, the percentage of weight on the criteria of excellence which is quite high (40 %), makes the university pay attention to achieving that score. The existing method in weighting the criteria using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) needs to include =n(n-1)/2 questions for each group of n-criteria paired comparisons. In this study, the Consistent Fuzzy Preference Relation (CFPR) method is used to study the factors/criteria to determine what strategy universities will take to improve the webometrics ranking in terms of excellence. The CFPR techniques are used to reduce expert assessment steps to only as much as n-1 to ensure consistency at the level with n criteria. Based on the calculation results, it can be concluded that the strategy for improving the excellence score is prioritized on three main criteria in sequence, namely improving scholarly rank (A), measuring the number of scientific papers (B), recognizing scholarly ranks (C). The weight of each criterion in the sequence is 0.51, 0.32, and 0.17. Some strategies to increase the excellence score based on the main priority of sub-criteria and sub-sub criteria are explained in this study. © 2021 ACM.

Correctness-by-Construction (CbC) is an incremental program construction process to construct functionally correct programs. The programs are constructed stepwise along with a specification that is inherently guaranteed to be satisfied. CbC is complex to use without specialized tool support, since it needs a set of predefined refinement rules of fixed granularity which are additional rules on top of the programming language. Each refinement rule introduces a specific programming statement and developers cannot depart from these rules to construct programs. CbC allows to develop software in a structured and incremental way to ensure correctness, but the limited flexibility is a disadvantage of CbC. In this work, we compare classic CbC with CbC-Block and TraitCbC. Both approaches CbC-Block and TraitCbC, are related to CbC, but they have new language constructs that enable a more flexible software construction approach. We provide for both approaches a programming guideline, which similar to CbC, leads to well-structured programs. CbC-Block extends CbC by adding a refinement rule to insert any block of statements. Therefore, we introduce CbC-Block as an extension of CbC. TraitCbC implements correctness-by-construction on the basis of traits with specified methods. We formally introduce TraitCbC and prove soundness of the construction strategy. All three development approaches are qualitatively compared regarding their programming constructs, tool support, and usability to assess which is best suited for certain tasks and developers. © 2022, CC BY.

Workflow is a well-known and widely used technology in business management. Traditional workflow solutions are designed for humans and generally use a graphical representation of workflow elements that reflect the involvement of human factors. Additionally, in a situation where workflow execution is not possible, human intervention is necessary. This means that current workflow design is limited in flexibility, in terms of tasks supported, and that it cannot be easily scaled or adopted. Furthermore, current workflow design is limited in efficiency and efficacy, especially in modern environments (e.g. 5G and IoT) where problems can be complex and solutions unpredictable. This paper proposes a workflow management framework that uses dynamically generated workflows to control a managed environment. Exception detection and handling in workflow generation produce recommendations for mitigating incidents that might occur. The key characteristics of the proposed framework are its ease of implementation, flexibility and scalability. These characteristics allow for the quick definition of new tasks, known and unknown, and to assess the quality of the generated recommendation through feedback from the managed environment. Experiments performed in two different environments, robotics and networking, demonstrate the elasticity and functionality of the proposed method to dynamically generated workflows.

A demonstration of the application of dynamically generated workflows to the management of a network environment is presented. A proposed workflow management framework (WMF) uses dynamically generated workflows to control the managed environment. Exception detection and handling in the workflow generation produce recommendations for mitigating incidents that might occur. The key features of the proposed WMF are its ease of implementation, flexibility and scalability. These features facilitate a quick response by the definition of new recommendations in the form of a workflow that can be executed in a controlled environment. The effectiveness of these recommendations can be assessed through feedback from the managed environment.

5G communication systems provide an end-to-end wireless connection to billions of users and devices across the globe. The quality of signals received during radio communication is notably influenced by the behavior of the radio propagation channel. A major parameter used in characterizing this channel is the Path Loss Exponent (PLE). Several works that have estimated and analyzed the PLE mostly considered the effect of distance and carrier frequency. However, the effect of base station antenna height and channel bandwidth on the PLE for 5G networks have not been adequately considered. To address this, the impact of antenna height of base station and channel bandwidth on the PLE within the 5G Frequency Range 1 (FR1) frequencies was investigated in this study, specifically at 800, 3500, and 5900 MHz. The licensed EDX Signal Pro software® with Cirrus high resolution global terrain and clutter data base was utilized to model, simulate and analyze the PLE for Kano City, Nigeria. Results showed that for the tested frequencies, an increase in either base station height or channel bandwidth leads to a significant reduction in the PLE. This study can be utilized by network planning engineers and the wireless research community to further improve network implementation and optimization toward understanding the behavior of signal propagation in 5G networks and beyond. © 2023 IEEE.

software development companies commonly use Global software Development (GSD) in their industry. A competent Scrum team supports the success of the GSD project. This research aims to identify the game components in the form of types, elements, and technologies that contribute to building experience for the Scrum team in a GSD environment. We used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the Kitchenham and snowball method. From the 12 papers, we concluded that none of the games specifically focused on the competence of the Scrum team at GSD. The SLR results also identify ten game elements and technologies as a reference for game development to meet the challenges in GSD. The conclusion is that there are still great opportunities to develop a game that can improve the competence of the GSD Scrum team. Game development should refer to elements and identified technologies.
