Web service chaining forms one of the basic operation during Web service composition. To decide whether services can be chained, semantic matching between the I/O is usually evaluated. In this paper we propose an approach considering possible adaptation of output data before it is consumed as input by other service. We also define the corresponding rules based on which it is evaluated if the chaining is possible or not. Moreover, we deal also with the affect on workflow and service description, and their execution.

The process of semantic web service composition arranges several web services into one composite service to realize complex workflows with an exploitation of semantics. This paper proposes an approach to automatic semantic web service composition. Its advantage is good scalability regarding the complexity of user constraints and pre/post conditions. Based on these conditions it propagates the value restrictions constraint from the user goal through the overall composite service. The resulting plan depicts all the possible branches of the workflow leading to a goal. This includes the automatic generation of the conditions deciding which branch will be chosen during the execution. Finally, our approach exploits available data which can be used as input parameters for web services. If these are not offered, it searches for a web service producing them.

There are various approaches to service composition - some of them mainly based on AI planning. Although they offer relatively good results, in some cases they are not sophisticated enough to solve real problems. We identified some problems with automatic composition. Our belief is that the natural way to improve these techniques is to include user into the process of composing services. The goal of this paper is to present a new way of combining AI approaches incorporating also user assistance to create a meaningful plan. We shall also examine benefits of proposed combination. To demonstrate advantages of our approach we designed and implemented system performing Web service composition.

This report summarizes the proceedings of the one day BioSharing meeting held at the Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB) 2010 conference in Boston, MA, USA This inaugural BioSharing event was hosted by the Genomic Standards Consortium as part of its M3 & BioSharing special interest group (SIG) workshop. The BioSharing event included invited talks from a range of community leaders and a panel discussion at the end of the day. The panel session led to the formal agreement among community leaders to join together to promote cross-community knowledge exchange and collaborations. A key focus of the newly formed Biosharing community will be linking up resources to promote real-world data sharing (virtuous cycle of data) and supporting compliance with data policies through the creation of a one-stop-portal of information. New challenges for advanced web search interfaces and visualization tools arise as user needs shift from traditional lookup tasks towards more open ended search activities collectively described as exploratory search. Exploratory search opens new possibilities for employing social aspects for effective information retrieval. We facilitate exploratory search by providing users with an integrated search and navigation interface combining three search paradigms - full text search, view-based (faceted) search and content-based (query-by-example) search. Full text search is used for both domain data and metadata lookup, view-based search allows users to further refine/filter the respective result set, while content-based search orders or biases the results based on their similarity to a given set of sample results. We present a method for navigation support by visualization of actual web page context. We browse and incrementally visualize a graph representing an abstraction of web navigation where nodes represent web pages and edges represent relationships between them expressed either by explicit links (one page linking to another through the content) or implied relationships (relevant pages several clicks away). We proposed several metrics for edge relevance evaluation. In the metrics, existing metadata in form of tags associated with bookmarks offered by collaborative social bookmarking sites is employed and user preferences represented by their tag usage are taken into account.
