In this paper we propose a framework for the creation of adaptive portal solutions for the Semantic Web. It supports different target domains in a single portal instance. We propose a platform envi- ronment where the ontology models and adaptivity are among first-class features. Adaptivity is supported by the personalized presentation layer that integrates software tools for automatic user characteristic acquisition. A significant contribution of the design lies in our method for automatic form building from the domain ontology and automated CRUD pattern support by object-ontology mapping. We evaluate the framework in two domains - online labor market and scientific publications.

Many current web-based information systems need to adapt to individual user characteristics in order to streamline common tasks and enable users to use them efficiently. In this paper we describe an approach to user characteristics acquisition based on automatic analysis of user behavior thus minimizing the amount of necessary user involvement. We stress the importance of appropriate data collection and propose a novel approach to logging, in which we preserve the semantics of logged events. This has a significant impact on the successive log analysis, which focuses on the estimation of user characteristics from user navigation.

It is more convenient to talk about changes in a domainspecific way than to formulate them at the programming construct level or-even worse-purely lexical level. Using aspect-oriented programming, changes can be modularized and made reapplicable. In this paper, selected change types in web applications are analyzed. They are expressed in terms of general change types which, in turn, are implemented using aspect-oriented programming. Some of general change types match aspect-oriented design patterns or their combinations.

Existing multimedia information retrieval systems provide users with insufficient support for efficient searching for and browsing in multimedia content. Several possible solutions were proposed, such as using faceted metadata search or semantic clusters of search results. We describe the possibilities of using enhanced faceted navigation with support for personalization, collaboration and Semantic Web technologies for multimedia information retrieval. Furthermore, we propose a method of faceted browser adaptation with support for dynamic facet generation based on an automatically acquired user model.

This paper describes annotations for the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese. The information we annotated to the corpus includes morphemes, clause units, dependency structures, summaries, and discourse structures. They are integrated in the form of XML. Morphological information was semi-automatically annotated to the transcribed text by reducing the human labor cost within the framework of morphological annotation that we proposed. Next, clause unites were detected based on the morphological information as basic units for our annotation. Then, dependency structures, summaries, discourse structures were annotated based on the clause units.

It has been well documented that there is a correlation between the structure of an architecture and the organization that produces it. More concretely there is a correlation between task interdependencies and coordination among the people or teams realizing these tasks. The amount of coordination needed among teams is related to the nature of these task interdependencies. As the scale and complexity of organization and systems grow it is not uncommon to have factors such as geographic boundaries, organization boundaries, cultural differences, and so forth impede the ability of certain individuals or teams to coordinate effectively. While there is some understanding of the factors that impede the ability of teams to coordinate, the factors that cause task interdependence in software systems is less well understood. The current view is that it is the interactions across module boundaries (assuming a module is assigned as a task or work item to a single team) that cause task interdependence; we have found that this view is not sufficient. In this paper we present three cases where additional architectural mechanisms created task interdependencies that the organizations were unable to accommodate. We go on to discuss the implications of these findings and suggest future research activities.

Incremental learning (IL) plays a key role in many real-world applications where data arrives over time. It is mainly concerned with learning models in an ever-changing environment. In this paper, we review some of the incremental learning algorithms and evaluate them within the same experimental settings in order to provide as objective comparative study as possible. These algorithms include fuzzy ARTMAP, nearest generalized exemplar, growing neural gas, generalized fuzzy min-max neural network, and IL based on function decomposition (ILFD).
