The deep learning applications in IoT-based bio- and medical informatics: a systematic literature review

Nowadays, machine learning (ML) has attained a high level of achievement in many contexts. Considering the significance of ML in medical and bioinformatics owing to its accuracy, many investigators discussed multiple solutions for developing the function of medical and bioinformatics challenges using deep learning (DL) techniques. The importance of DL in Internet of Things (IoT)-based bio- and medical informatics lies in its ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of complex and diverse data in real time, providing insights that can improve healthcare outcomes and increase efficiency in the healthcare industry. Several applications of DL in IoT-based bio- and medical informatics include diagnosis, treatment recommendation, clinical decision support, image analysis, wearable monitoring, and drug discovery. The review aims to comprehensively evaluate and synthesize the existing body of the literature on applying deep learning in the intersection of the IoT with bio- and medical informatics. In this paper, we categorized the most cutting-edge DL solutions for medical and bioinformatics issues into five categories based on the DL technique utilized: convolutional neural network, recurrent neural network, generative adversarial network, multilayer perception, and hybrid methods. A systematic literature review was applied to study each one in terms of effective properties, like the main idea, benefits, drawbacks, methods, simulation environment, and datasets. After that, cutting-edge research on DL approaches and applications for bioinformatics concerns was emphasized. In addition, several challenges that contributed to DL implementation for medical and bioinformatics have been addressed, which are predicted to motivate more studies to develop medical and bioinformatics research progressively. Skin cancer detection with MobileNet-based transfer learning and MixNets for enhanced diagnosis

Skin cancer poses a significant health hazard, necessitating the utilization of advanced diagnostic methodologies to facilitate timely detection, owing to its escalating prevalence in recent years. This paper proposes a novel approach to tackle the issue by introducing a method for detecting skin cancer that uses MixNets to enhance diagnosis and leverages mobile network-based transfer learning. Skin cancer has diverse forms, each distinguishable by its structural attributes, morphological characteristics, texture, and coloration. The pressing demand for accurate and efficient diagnostic instruments has spurred the investigation of novel techniques. The present study utilizes the ISIC dataset, comprising a validation set of 660 images and a training set of 2637 images. Moreover, the research employs a combination of MixNets and mobile network-based transfer learning as its chosen approach. Transfer learning is a technique that leverages preexisting models to enhance the diagnostic capabilities of the proposed system. Integrating MobileNet and MixNets allows for utilizing their respective functionalities, resulting in a dual-model methodology that enhances the comprehensiveness of skin cancer diagnosis. The results demonstrate impressive performance metrics, with MobileNet and MixNets models, and the proposed approach achieves an outstanding accuracy rate of 99.58%. The above findings underscore the efficacy of the dual-model method in effectively discerning between benign and malignant skin lesions. Moreover, the present study aims to examine the potential integration of emerging technologies to enhance the accuracy and practicality of diagnostics within real-world healthcare settings. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

A new era of data access and management has begun with the use of cloud computing in the healthcare *** the efficiency and scalability that the cloud provides, the security of private patient data is still a majorconcern. Encryption, network security, and adherence to data protection laws are key to ensuring the confidentialityand integrity of healthcare data in the cloud. The computational overhead of encryption technologies could leadto delays in data access and processing rates. To address these challenges, we introduced the Enhanced ParallelMulti-Key Encryption Algorithm (EPM-KEA), aiming to bolster healthcare data security and facilitate the securestorage of critical patient records in the cloud. The data was gathered from two categories Authorization forHospital Admission (AIH) and Authorization for High Complexity *** use Z-score normalization forpreprocessing. The primary goal of implementing encryption techniques is to secure and store massive amountsof data on the cloud. It is feasible that cloud storage alternatives for protecting healthcare data will become morewidely available if security issues can be successfully fixed. As a result of our analysis using specific parametersincluding Execution time (42%), Encryption time (45%), Decryption time (40%), Security level (97%), and Energyconsumption (53%), the system demonstrated favorable performance when compared to the traditional *** suggests that by addressing these security concerns, there is the potential for broader accessibility to cloudstorage solutions for safeguarding healthcare data.

The primary cause of death and disability worldwide is stroke. Accurate prediction models and identification of stroke risk factors can aid in early intervention and preventive measures. In this study, an approach based on machine learning algorithms, including Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), AdaBoost (AdB), Gradient Boosting (GB), Decision Tree (DT), and a unique Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model, is proposed to predict stroke risk at four different levels. To address the issue of imbalanced dataset, Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique coupled with Edited Nearest Neighbors (SMOTEENN) was used. 11 features were selected for training the models out of the initial 12 features, and the data-set was divided into an 80-20 train-test ratio for model assessment. The Decision Tree (DT) model achieved an accuracy of 98.53%. Additionally, a 1000 epoch Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model with various batch sizes was created;128 produced the best results. Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), Adam, and RMSprop were examined along with other optimizers, however SGD produced the highest accuracy rate of 99.21%. The results suggest that utilizing the selected features and the balanced data-set, machine learning algorithms such as the unique CNN model can accurately predict stroke risk at various levels. These models have the potential to aid in early detection of stroke risk and guide preventive interventions, thus improving patient care and outcomes. Further testing and implementation of these models in real clinical settings are warranted. © 2023 IEEE.

With the advent of Industry 4.0, Ambient Intelligence, and other related technologies, self-Adaptation has been seen in modern systems. In this sense, Human-computer Interaction (HCI) requires an approach focused on the user and the environment, which facilitates and enhances the use of the systems. In this context, the quality of Self-Adaptive Systems (SAS) is essential for their adoption, dissemination, and service. Thus, this study introduces a detailed evaluation method to analyze the quality of HCI in SAS, providing a solution applicable to various contexts aligned with the standard ISO/IEC 25040. This study also presents a quality model aligned with the ISO/IEC 25010 standard. The quality evaluation method allows the objective definition for the measurement application through specific metrics that determine the degree of functional adequacy and interaction capability. Finally, this study demonstrates how to perform a detailed evaluation of the quality of HCI in SAS, using as an example the evaluation of the Spotify system as a case study, applying metrics to evaluate functional adequacy and interaction capacity aligned with ISO/IEC 25040 and 25010 standards. © 2024 IEEE.

With the ever-rising risk of phishing attacks, which capitalize on vulnerable human behavior in the contemporary digital space, requires new cybersecurity methods. This literary work contributes to the solution by novel incorporation of three techniques: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Random Forest (RF). Utilizing NLP for deep analysis of text in phishing e-mails, SVM for strong categorization and Random Forest's decision making by group helps in improving detection. This combination of language and pattern analysis along with group learning builds a fortified system. This approach differs from prior work on a variety of factors such as reliability, security, integrity, scalability, interpretability, transparency, and robustness. Thorough evaluation on a reliable dataset aimed to demonstrate the method's effectiveness, which resulted in 98.7 % of accuracy in detection. This majorly aims at showcasing the potential of ensemble techniques to combat against cyber-attacks like phishing for laying a strong foundation for a secure digital environment. © 2024 IEEE.

This research presents a novel approach to stream-line the configuration of AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture) modules using Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tools. Traditional methods of generating AUTOSAR-compliant ARXML files are time-consuming and require meticulous man-ual input, posing significant challenges for developers. In this study, an AI-driven methodology is introduced to address these challenges. By mapping English descriptions to YAML through a Python script and subsequently converting YAML to Autosar XML (ARXML), this approach conserves tokens and significantly accelerates the AI training process. The AI model, trained on a dataset of 12,000 samples and tested on 3,000 unseen inputs, achieved a 100% accuracy rate in converting descriptions. Additionally, a comprehensive configurator tool and a code generator were developed to facilitate seamless integration and deployment of the generated configurations. The proposed solution not only reduces manual effort but also increases reliability in AUTOSAR configuration, offering a practical tool for developers in the automotive software industry. © 2024 IEEE.

Medical image anomaly detection refers to machine learning techniques to analyze and identify lesions and abnormalities in them. However, in medical images, anomaly samples are usually sparse, which can lead to supervised learning not being able to obtain sufficient training. While existing unsupervised learning is mainly based on reconstruction and generation as well as feature embedding, these methods do not take into account the problem of data type bias during domain migration and often face the problem of loose judgment boundaries. To this end, this paper proposes a novel unsupervised learning method, SyNet, based on noisy anomaly synthesis. First, the problem at domain migration is well solved by aggregating the range of features within the feature map, fusing the multiscale features at the intermediate level, and adding feature adapters. Then, anomaly samples are synthesized by adding noise in the feature space, which is more efficient and stable than generating samples in the image space. Finally, normal and abnormal data are distinguished by training the discriminator. In this paper, experiments are conducted on ISIC and brain MRI datasets, and SyNet achieves nearly 20% improvement in AUC, ACC and other metrics compared with the current mainstream methods, and also has good inference efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.
