No-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) aims to evaluate image quality without using the original reference images. Since the early NR-IQA methods based on distortion types were only applicable to specific distortion scenarios, and lack of practicality, it is challenging to designing a universal NR-IQA method. In this article, a multibranch convolutional neural network (MB-CNN) based NR-IQA method is proposed, which includes a spatial-domain feature extractor, a gradient-domain feature extractor, and a weight mechanism. The spatial-domain feature extractor aims to extract the distortion features from the spatial domain. The gradient-domain feature extractor is used to guide the spatial-domain feature extractor to pay more attention to the distortions of the structure information. Particularly, the spatial-domain feature extractor uses the hierarchical feature merge module to realize multiscale feature representation, and the gradient-domain feature extractor uses pyramidal convolution to extract the multiscale structure information of the distorted image. In addition, a position vector is proposed to build the weight mechanism by considering the position relationships between patches and its entire image for improving the final prediction performance. We conduct the experiments on five representative databases: LIVE, TID2013, CSIQ, LIVE MD and Waterloo Exploration Database, and the experimental results show that the proposed NR-IQA method achieves the state-of-the-art performance, which demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed NR-IQA method. Soil salinity is a serious land degradation issue in *** is a major threat to agriculture *** irrigation water is applied to leach down the salts from the root zone of the plants in the form of a Leaching fraction(LF)of irrigation *** the leaching process to be effective,the LF of irriga-tion water needs to be adjusted according to the environmental conditions and soil salinity level in the form of Evapotranspiration(ET)*** relationship between environmental conditions and ET rate is hard to be deﬁned by a linear relationship and data-driven Machine learning(ML)based decisions are required to determine the calibrated Evapotranspiration(ETc)***-assisted ETc is pro-posed to adjust the LF according to the ETc and soil salinity level.A regression model is proposed to determine the ETc rate according to the prevailing tempera-ture,humidity,and sunshine,which would be used to determine the smart LF according to the ETc and soil salinity *** proposed model is trained and tested against the Blaney Criddle method of Reference evapotranspiration(ETo)*** validation of the model from the test dataset reveals the accu-racy of the ML model in terms of Root mean squared errors(RMSE)are 0.41,Mean absolute errors(MAE)are 0.34,and Mean squared errors(MSE)are 0.28 mm *** applications of the proposed solution in a real-time environ-ment show that the LF by the proposed solution is more effective in reducing the soil salinity as compared to the traditional process of leaching.

Manifold learning method is a dimensionality reduction method that treats the data in non-Euclidean space as a Euclidean space in a local scope. However, most existing manifold learning methods cannot obtain the true neighborbood relationship of each sample point well. Therefore, we propose a manifold learning method based on adaptive local neighborhood. This method can adaptively select a neighborhood window. It can be approximated as a local Euclidean space based on the sample characteristics. To implement this method, a specific manifold learning method, named Laplacian Eigenmap of Adaptive Local Neighborhood Window (ALNWLE) is proposed. ALNWLE mainly contains two modules, namely the manifold structure learning module (MSLM) and the manifold structure pattern recognition module (MSPR). MSLM constructs an adaptive local neighborhood adjacency matrix to constrain the learning of the manifold structure. MSPR uses the interpolation method to recognize new sample patterns. The adaptive local neighborhood method proposed in this paper is a general method which is applicable to any manifold learning method. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In solving the problem of automated analysis of football match video recordings, special video cameras are currently used. This work presents a comparative characterization of known algorithms and methods for video camera calibration, including those utilizing machine learning and neural networks, with the aim of identifying their shortcomings and forming a theoretical foundation for developing modern, more effective methods and algorithms. Specifically, it examines both algorithms that require more input data but operate quickly [1, 2] and more accurate algorithms using machine learning [3, 4, 5, 6, 5]. It is demonstrated that their main drawback is either accuracy or speed. More accurate algorithms using machine learning often do not specify the algorithm's operational speed, which precludes their use in real-time applications. The examined works that emphasize speed frequently lack the accuracy necessary for practical use in real-life scenarios. Copyright © 2024 for this paper by its authors.

Recently,several edge deployment types,such as on-premise edge clusters,Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAV)-attached edge devices,telecommunication base stations installed with edge clusters,etc.,are being deployed to enable faster response time for latency-sensitive *** fundamental problem is where and how to offload and schedule multi-dependent tasks so as to minimize their collective execution time and to achieve high resource *** approaches randomly dispatch tasks naively to available edge nodes without considering the resource demands of tasks,inter-dependencies of tasks and edge resource *** approaches can result in the longer waiting time for tasks due to insufficient resource availability or dependency support,as well as provider ***,we present Edge Colla,which is based on the integration of edge resources running across multi-edge *** Colla leverages learning techniques to intelligently dispatch multidependent tasks,and a variant bin-packing optimization method to co-locate these tasks firmly on available nodes to optimally utilize *** experiments on real-world datasets from Alibaba on task dependencies show that our approach can achieve optimal performance than the baseline schemes.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disease that has severe impacts on an individual’s quality of life. Compared with structural and functional MRI-based biomarkers for the disease, electroencephalography (EEG) can provide more accessible alternatives for clinical insights. While deep learning (DL) techniques have provided excellent outcomes, many techniques fail to model spatial information and dynamic brain connectivity, and face challenges in robust feature learning, limited data sizes, and poor explainability. To address these issues, we proposed a novel graph neural network (GNN) technique for explainable PD detection using resting state EEG. Specifically, we employ structured global convolutions with contrastive learning to better model complex features with limited data, a novel multi-head graph structure learner to capture the non-Euclidean structure of EEG data, and a head-wise gradient-weighted graph attention explainer to offer neural connectivity insights. We developed and evaluated our method using the UC San Diego Parkinson’s disease EEG dataset, and achieved 69.40% detection accuracy in subject-wise leave-one-out cross-validation while generating intuitive explanations for the learnt graph topology. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
