Visual object tracking is a traditional task in computer vision, which has developed with several decades. With the development of machine learning, correlation filter (CF) has been proposed with satisfying performance and very high framerate. Though the CF framework has numerous strengths in this task, the tracker is fragile to miss the target in several scenes, including extreme illumination, target occlusion and deformation. Recently, thermal modality, which detects the target’s temperature, is robust to the night scenes and can provide a precise target contour. In this paper, we propose a CF based tracker with decision fusion strategy for visible-thermal (RGB-T) tracking. First, we introduce multi-modal KCF trackers as our baseline. Then, we design a decision fusion method considering the Peak-to-Side Rate (PSR) of the score maps, thereby achieving an adaptive fusing those modalities and avoiding model’s heterogeneity. In the experiments, our tracker has validated on the public dataset, namely GTOT. Compared with two uni-modality trackers, the proposed tracker with real-time speed has shown superior results on both target localization and scale estimation. © 2023 SPIE.

An air writing alphabet recognition system based on the images of temporal spectrogram such as average range-time map, average Doppler-time map and average angle-time map derived from an mmWave FMCW radar is proposed. All 26 English lowercase letters written in midair right above the radar sensor can be recognized. Two valuable radar data sets are introduced in diverse environments such as meeting room, office cubicle and living room etc. The use case is the usage scenarios of laptop computers and mobile phones. In one data set, volunteers write freely in their own handwriting styles including different hand speeds and different stroke orders. In the other data set, volunteers are asked to write according to a prescribed sequence of strokes. Then, the gestures sensed by radar are processed into images of temporal spectrogram to represent the written letter. A convolutional neural network which achieves 98.6% test accuracy is exploited as the classifier to recognize the air written alphabet. In the Leave-One-Subject-Out (LOSO) cross validation, it achieves an average test accuracy of 87.74%. The effectiveness of the proposed alphabet recognition system is extensively verified on the two created data sets for different variants of temporal spectrograms. Vehicle platooning has attracted growing attention for its potential to enhance traffic capacity and road safety. This paper proposes an innovative distributed Stochastic Model Predictive Control (SMPC) for a vehicle platoon system to enhance the robustness and safety of the vehicles in uncertain traffic environments. In particular, considering the similarity between the acceleration or deceleration behaviour of neighbouring vehicles and the spring-scale properties, we use a two-mass spring system for the first time to construct an uncertain dynamic model of a formation system. In the presence of uncertain perturbations with known distributional attributes (expectation, variance), we propose an objective function in the form of expectation along with probabilistic chance constraints. Subsequently, a state feedback control mechanism is devised accordingly. Under the cumulative probability distribution function of stochastic perturbations, we theoretically derive a computationally tractable equivalent of the SMPC model. Finally, simulation experiments are designed to validate the control performance of the SMPC platoon controllers, along with an analysis of the stability performance under varying probabilities. The experimental findings demonstrate that the model can be efficiently solved in real-time with appropriately chosen prediction horizon lengths, ensuring robust and safe longitudinal vehicle formation control. School bus contributes positively to reducing the number of cars on the road, thereby reducing the environmental impact of cars. It also dramatically relieves working parents, who do not have to pick up and drop off their children separately in their private vehicles. However, the irregularity of the bus arrival times often leads to an extended waiting time for students at the bus stops, potentially compromising the students' safety. The communication barrier between schools, parents and bus drivers is also a significant challenge, mainly when a delay occurs during the transit of the students. This paper presents TOST (to-school-together), a school bus monitoring and management system for schools and parents. The school administrators, parents, and bus drivers are connected in one comprehensive school bus system. The proposed system provides realtime updates on the bus status, allowing peace of mind and easing the burden of parents, school administrators, and bus drivers. The design of TOST is based on feedback from the system stakeholders collected via a survey. We draw a complete understanding of the existing issues by analyzing the feedback. Finally, we have implemented the system using state-of-the-art technologies to address the identified issues and fulfil the system requirements. © 2023 IEEE.

The dynamic traveling salesman problem(DTSP)is significant in logistics distribution in real-world applications in smart cities,but it is uncertain and difficult to *** paper proposes a scheme library-based ant colony optimization(ACO)with a two-optimization(2-opt)strategy to solve the DTSP *** work is novel and contributes to three aspects:problemmodel,optimization framework,and ***,in the problem model,traditional DTSP models often consider the change of travel distance between two nodes over time,while this paper focuses on a special DTSP model in that the node locations change dynamically over ***,in the optimization framework,the ACO algorithm is carried out in an offline optimization and online application framework to efficiently reuse the historical information to help fast respond to the dynamic *** framework of offline optimization and online application is proposed due to the fact that the environmental change inDTSPis caused by the change of node location,and therefore the newenvironment is somehowsimilar to certain previous *** way,in the offline optimization,the solutions for possible environmental changes are optimized in advance,and are stored in a mode scheme *** the online application,when an environmental change is detected,the candidate solutions stored in the mode scheme library are reused via ACO to improve search efficiency and reduce computational ***,in the algorithm design,the ACO cooperates with the 2-opt strategy to enhance search *** evaluate the performance of ACO with 2-opt,we design two challenging DTSP cases with up to 200 and 1379 nodes and compare them with other ACO and genetic *** experimental results show that ACO with 2-opt can solve the DTSPs effectively.
