A Low-Cost Pipelined Architecture Based on a Hybrid Sorting Algorithm

In this paper, a low-cost pipelined architecture based on a hybrid sorting algorithm is proposed. The proposed architecture is constructed with a bitonic sorter and several cascaded bidirectional insertion sorting units. The bidirectional insertion sorting unit uses the segmented sorted subsequence generated by the bitonic sorter as input, and records the maximum and minimum values of the subsequence. After all segmented subsequences are processed through the cascaded bidirectional insertion sorting units, a sorted sequence is obtained. The proposed architecture is implemented using the Verilog hardware description language (HDL) and synthesized using the Synopsys Design Compiler with a TSMC 90-nm cell library. The experimental results indicate that the proposed architecture can not only shorten sorting cycles but also reduce hardware area costs. Moreover, sorting cycles can be further shortened by increasing the parallelism of the proposed architecture. Under the configuration that 2048 32-bit data to be sorted and 16 data have to be processed simultaneously, the proposed architecture can improve the throughput-to-gate-count ratio by 16%, and throughput-to-power-consumption-ratio by 25% compared to the existing sorting design. The proposed architecture makes the most efficient use of hardware resources. © 2023 IEEE.

Colorectal polyps can evolve into colon cancer over time. Early screening or detection of colon polyps using computer-aided detection (CAD) techniques along with removal of the polyps can lower the risk of colon cancer. As an alternative to optimal colonoscopy (OC), virtual colonoscopy (VC) has the advantage of non-invasiveness in the detection of colon polyps. Recent decades have witnessed rapid advancement in VC based polyp detection and false positive (FP) reduction techniques using machine learning or deep learning methods. However, the majority of existing methods are based on the computation using computed tomography (CT) images of patient data, which are in some cases very computationally expensive, particularly in the scenario of necessity of large dataset for model training. In this paper, we propose a novel automatic polyp detection method termed Mesh-PolypDet using the surface meshes of colorectal data. The initial detection of polyp candidates is performed on 3D colon surface meshes, and the subsequent FP reduction is carried out using the visual transformer and conformal mapping. Experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method in comparison with other existing methods. © 2024 Interfaces and Human computer Interaction. All Rights Reserved.

After adopting 5G technology, businesses and academia have started working on sixth-generation wireless networking (6G) technologies. Mobile communications options are expected to expand in areas where previous generations could not do so. 6G networks are anticipated to be constructed using various diverse technologies. These encompass diverse cutting-edge advancements, such as distributed ledger systems like blockchain, visible light communications (VLC), post-quantum cryptography, edge computing, molecular communication, THz, and other advances. These advances necessitate a reassessment of previous security strategies from a security perspective. In the future, networks must adhere to stricter criteria for authentication, encryption, access control, connectivity, and detection of harmful activities. Ensuring privacy and dependability necessitates the implementation of supplementary security protocols. The essay explores the primary concerns and challenges related to the security of the 6G network. This paper describes the improvements in security in communications from 1G through 6G. This paper divides security in the sixth generation into three layers: physical, connection, and service. Each layer-by-layer discusses the standard technologies and security issues for each technology proposed in each sixth-generation security layer. All proposed solutions for each of the three layers are discussed in Sixth Generation Security. It also reviews all proposed solutions for each layer, indicating the proposed solution and its limitations. © The Author(s) 2025.

Automatic Speaker Identification (ASI) is so crucial for security. Current ASI systems perform well in quiet and clean surroundings. However, in noisy situations, the robustness of an ASI system against additive noise and interference is a crucial factor. An investigation of the impact of interference on ASI system performance is presented in this paper, which introduces algorithms for achieving high ASI system performance. The objective is to resist the interference of various forms. This paper presents two models for the ASI task in the presence of interference. The first one depends on Normalized Pitch Frequency (NPF) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) as extracted features and Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) as a classifier. In this model, we investigate the utilization of a Discrete Transform (DT), such as Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Sine Transform (DST), to increase the robustness of extracted features against different types of degradation through exploiting the sub-band decomposition characteristics of DWT and the energy compaction property of DCT and DST. This is achieved by extracting features directly from contaminated speech signals in addition to features extracted from discrete transformed signals to create hybrid feature vectors. The enhancement techniques, such as Spectral Subtraction (SS), Winer Filter, and adaptive Wiener filter, are used in a preprocessing stage to eliminate the effect of the interference on the ASI system. In the second model, we investigate the utilization of Deep Learning (DL) based on a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with speech signal spectrograms and their Radon transforms to increase the robustness of the ASI system against interference effects. Handwritten character recognition systems are used in every field of life nowadays,including shopping malls,banks,educational institutes,*** is the national language of Pakistan,and it is the fourth spoken language in the ***,it is still challenging to recognize Urdu handwritten characters owing to their cursive *** paper presents a Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)model to recognize Urdu handwritten alphabet recognition(UHAR)offline and online *** research contributes an Urdu handwritten dataset(aka UHDS)to empower future works in this *** offline systems,optical readers are used for extracting the alphabets,while diagonal-based extraction methods are implemented in online ***,our research tackled the issue concerning the lack of comprehensive and standard Urdu alphabet datasets to empower research activities in the area of Urdu text *** this end,we collected 1000 handwritten samples for each alphabet and a total of 38000 samples from 12 to 25 age groups to train our CNN model using online and offline ***,we carried out detailed experiments for character recognition,as detailed in the *** proposed CNN model outperformed as compared to previously published approaches.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) significantly impacts a child's ability to navigate social interactions, regulate emotions, and develop adaptive skills crucial for daily functioning. While various interventions exist to address cognitive and academic skills, the development of soft skills such as communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and creativity remains an under explored area. This paper builds upon the foundational work of the Mind Champ platform, which originally targeted both learning and soft skills, by focusing exclusively on enhancing the soft skills development of autistic children. This enhanced version of the Mind Champ platform leverages advanced behavioral and emotional analysis techniques to offer a comprehensive technological solution. Through interactive activities centered on painting and music, the platform creates a structured, engaging, and supportive environment tailored to the unique needs of children with ASD. By prioritizing emotional engagement and creative expression, the platform empowers children to improve their social abilities, emotional regulation, and adaptability. The results from our continued research indicate that these technology-driven interventions contribute significantly to the holistic development of soft skills in autistic children, providing them with valuable tools to navigate social environments more effectively.

Crowd detection and prevention systems have become essential for managing densely populated areas. Modern systems leverage the combined power of machine learning, data mining, and image processing to extract and analyse features from crowded zones, enabling the identification of behavioural patterns and anomalies. However, most current solutions primarily focus on detection and lack robust decision-making and recommendation mechanisms for selecting appropriate crowd-prevention strategies. To address this gap, we integrate the predictive capabilities of machine learning models with the analytical and clustering strengths of Fuzzy Formal Concept Analysis (fuzzy FCA). Machine learning is employed to extract valuable insights from images of the area, with a neural network used to identify human figures, track individuals' positions, and predict crowd levels. This data is fed into an FFCA-based decision system, where crowd information is structured and clustered using lattice theory. This latter helped exclude low-crowd zones and cluster the rest of the monitored areas based on their crowd features. Additionally, we define bottom-up parsing algorithms to recommend suitable crowd-prevention plans based on crowd density levels within fuzzy formal concepts. Experiments confirmed not only the ability of fuzzy FCA to "exclude"low-crowd zones thanks to a used crowd threshold but also the efficient "feature-based clustering"of crowded zones into hierarchical formal concepts and these latter's "bottom-up parsing"to finally identify the dense zones. © 2024 IEEE.
