Interactive video object segmentation (iVOS), which aims to efficiently produce high-quality segmentation masks of the target object in a video with user interactions. Recently, numerous works are proposed to advance the task of iVOS. However, their usages on user intent are limited. First, typical modules usually try to direct generate the segmentation without any further exploration on the input interaction, which misses valuable information. Second, recent iVOS approaches also do not consider the raw interactive information. As a result, the final segmentation results will be poisoned by the erroneous information given by the previous round’s segmentation masks. To solve the aforementioned weaknesses, in this paper, an Iterative Segmentation and Propagation based iVOS method is proposed to conduct better user intent exploration, namely ISP. ISP directly models user intent into the PGI2M module and TP module. Specifically, ISP first extracts a coarse-grained segmentation mask by analyzing the user’s input. Subsequently, this mask is used as a prior to aid the PGI2M module. Secondly, ISP presents a new interaction-driven self-attention module to recall the user’s intent in the TP module. Extensive experiments on two public datasets show the superiority of ISP over existing methods. © 2024 SPIE.

First-order optimization (FOO) algorithms are pivotal in numerous computational domains, such as reinforcement learning and deep learning. However, their application to complex tasks often entails significant optimization inefficiency due to their need of many sequential iterations for convergence. In response, we introduce first-order optimization expedited with approximately parallelized iterations (OptEx), the first general framework that enhances the optimization efficiency of FOO by leveraging parallel computing to directly mitigate its requirement of many sequential iterations for convergence. To achieve this, OptEx utilizes a kernelized gradient estimation that is based on the history of evaluated gradients to predict the gradients required by the next few sequential iterations in FOO, which helps to break the inherent iterative dependency and hence enables the approximate parallelization of iterations in FOO. We further establish theoretical guarantees for the estimation error of our kernelized gradient estimation and the iteration complexity of SGD-based OptEx, confirming that the estimation error diminishes to zero as the history of gradients accumulates and that our SGD-based OptEx enjoys an effective acceleration rate of Θ(√N) over standard SGD given parallelism of N, in terms of the sequential iterations required for convergence. Finally, we provide extensive empirical studies, including synthetic functions, reinforcement learning tasks, and neural network training on various datasets, to underscore the substantial efficiency improvements achieved by OptEx in practice. software piracy is a major problem faced in the software industry. Despite the several techniques proposed in previous studies, software piracy and intellectual property theft have continued to pose a threat in the software industry. The objective of this study is to design a code obfuscation framework for software and intellectual property protection. The methodology employed includes use of JavaScript and algorithms that described the key processes of the framework. The obfuscation framework presented in this study consists of five distinct transformation techniques belonging to the control-flow class of obfuscation classifications. A prototype application that executes the transformation techniques to produce obfuscated code based on specified techniques was provided. Results obtained from the evaluations shows that some transformation techniques are more effective than others in obscuring codes and that the proposed framework increases the computing overhead of the resultant obfuscated code by a relatively small margin. Results indicate that majority (76.2%) of the respondents believe that the developed obfuscator is inexpensive and that it does not adversely affect memory and execution time. The developed framework and prototype implementation would provide software vendors and developers the tool to obscure their intellectual property against attack and theft by making reverse engineering difficult and unattractive. © 2024 IEEE.

Static Analysis Techniques for Fixing software Defects in MPI-Based Parallel Programs

The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a widely accepted standard for parallel computing on distributed ***, MPI implementations can contain defects that impact the reliability and performance of parallelapplications. Detecting and correcting these defects is crucial, yet there is a lack of published models specificallydesigned for correctingMPI defects. To address this, we propose a model for detecting and correcting MPI defects(DC_MPI), which aims to detect and correct defects in various types of MPI communication, including blockingpoint-to-point (BPTP), nonblocking point-to-point (NBPTP), and collective communication (CC). The defectsaddressed by the DC_MPI model include illegal MPI calls, deadlocks (DL), race conditions (RC), and messagemismatches (MM). To assess the effectiveness of the DC_MPI model, we performed experiments on a datasetconsisting of 40 MPI codes. The results indicate that the model achieved a detection rate of 37 out of 40 codes,resulting in an overall detection accuracy of 92.5%. Additionally, the execution duration of the DC_MPI modelranged from 0.81 to 1.36 s. These findings show that the DC_MPI model is useful in detecting and correctingdefects in MPI implementations, thereby enhancing the reliability and performance of parallel applications. TheDC_MPImodel fills an important research gap and provides a valuable tool for improving the quality ofMPI-basedparallel computing systems.

In this paper, we present a novel deep learning model medical network (MedNetV3) developed for brain tumor detection. It incorporates advanced data augmentation techniques based on the MobileNetV3 architecture. MedNetV3 is developed for higher classification accuracy at the cost of slightly lower computational efficiency and is therefore suitable for clinical use. The proposed model overcomes the class imbalance problem and can make the model robust to the variations of MRI scans included in the extensive data augmentation methods, such as random rotations, flips. The proposed model trained and evaluated using a publicly available MRI dataset. It achieved a high Area Under the Curve (AUC) value of 0.99 for both the Precision-Recall and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves. The results show that MedNetV3 is effective in correctly distinguishing brain tumors and therefore has the potential to be used in medical image classification. © 2024 IEEE.

Crowds can lead up to severe disasterous consequences resulting in fatalities. Videos obtained through public cameras or captured by drones flying overhead can be processed with artificial intelligence-based crowd analysis systems. Being a hot area of research over the past few years, the goal is not only to identify the presence of crowds but also to predict the probability of crowd-formation in order to issue timely warnings and preventive measures. Such systems will significantly reduce the probablity of the potential disasters. Developing effective systems is a challenging task, especially due to factors such as naturally occuring diverse conditions, variations in people or background pixel areas, noise, behaviors of individuals, relative amounts/distributions/directions of crowd movements, and crowd building reasons. This paper proposes an infrared video processing system based on U-Net convolutional neural network for crowd monitoring in infrared video frames to help estimate the people crowd with normal or abnormal trends. The proposed U-Net architecture aims to efficiently extract crowd features, achieve sufficient people marking-up accuracy, competitively with optimal network configurations in terms of the depth and number of filters to consequently minimise the number of coefficients. For further faster processing, hardware resources/implementation area savings, and lower power, the optimized network coefficients measured are represented in Canonic-Signed Digit with minimal number of nonzero (± 1) digits, minimizing the number of underlying shift-add/subtract operations of all multipliers. The achieved significantly reduced computational cost makes the proposed U-Net effectively suitable for resource-constrained and low power applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

A Fine-Grained Detector of Face Mask Wearing Status Based on Improved YOLOX

The fast outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and rapid proliferation of its variants have continued to pose a huge challenge to people around the world. Wearing medical masks properly in public and private settings can protect people from COVID-19, which brings a growing demand for automatic detection services of face mask wearing conditions. In this article, we propose a fine-grained detector called ECA_YOLOX-S to identify the wearing status of face masks. Efficient channel attention is introduced into YOLOX-S to reach a tradeoff between effectiveness and efficiency. To demonstrate the performance of our proposed method, a Fine-grained Face Mask (FineFM) dataset is created, which covers four classes of mask wearing status. The proposed FineFM dataset has 16 955 annotated images and covers multiple realistic scenarios. To the best of authors' knowledge, it has the largest number of improper mask wearing images among all similar datasets for realistic scenes. Experiments conducted on the FineFM dataset demonstrate that ECA_YOLOX-S achieves an overall mean average precision (mAP)@.50:95 of 86.80% for moderate scenes and an overall mAP@.50:95 of 73.20% for complex scenes, outperforming its benchmark model. Moreover, experiments conducted on other realistic and simulated datasets indicate that the proposed detector has advantages over other methods. © 2020 IEEE.

Cooperative perception has been shown an effective approach to address the perception limitation problem faced by the individual perception in the era of autonomous driving. Considering a two-source two-hop cooperative perception vehicular network, we investigate the average age of information (AoI) with different automatic repeat-request (ARQ) strategies in this paper. We formulate the packet transmission process as a Markov chain, which allows us to establish linear equations about the first and second moments of all states' residual waiting time for the destination to receive a new update packet. Then, we derive the average AoI based on the analytical solution to the equations. Furthermore, the analysis is applied to a special case of the single-source two-hop cooperative perception system. Simulation results show that the optimal strategy is neither non-ARQ nor infinite-ARQ, but truncated ARQ, which means that there exists a finite retransmission limit to minimize the average AoI, implying that better cooperative perception can be achieved by optimizing the retransmission limit, especially in the single-source two-hop situation. © 2024 IEEE.

Text-guided image generative diffusion models achieve fast development on the generation and editing of high-quality images. To extend such success to video editing, some efforts combining image generation with video editing have been made, which however only achieve inferior performance. We attribute it to two challenges: 1) different from the static image generation, it is tricky for dynamic video information to ensure the temporal fidelity of motion consistency across different frames;2) the randomness of the frame generation process makes it hard to continuously retain the similar spatial fidelity for the original detailed features. In this paper, we propose a new high-fidelity diffusion model-based zero-shot text-guided video editing network, called HiFiVEditor, which aims to conduct effective video editing with high fidelity of the original video's detailed and dynamic information. Specifically, we propose a Spatial-Temporal Fidelity Block (STFB) that enables the model to restore the spatial features by enlarging the spatial perceptual field to avoid loss of important information, and capture more dynamic information between different frames by using all frames for preserving temporal consistency to achieve better temporal fidelity. In addition, we introduce Null-Text Embedding to create a soft text embedding to optimize the noise learning process, so that the latent noise can be aligned with the prompt. Furthermore, to tune the video style and render it more realistic, we employ a Prior-Guided Perceptual Loss to constrain the prediction results to avoid deviating from the original video style. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior video editing capability compared to existing works. © 2024 IEEE.
