Adaptive design and implementation of automatic modulation recognition accelerator

Automatic modulation recognition-oriented Deep Neural Networks (ADNNs) have achieved higher recognition accuracy than traditional methods with less labor overhead. However, their high computation complexity usually far exceeds the computation capacity of communication devices built on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) platform. When solving the problem of insufficient resources, the complete operation of FPGA-based accelerator can be achieved by dividing the calculation into several parts and calculating them separately, but this will cause unaccepTable latency. In this backdrop, we develop a new ADNN model, named VT-CNN2+, to promote the recognition accuracy. Then, after stating the resources and latency problems for implementing VT-CNN2+ on the FPGA platform, an adaptive hardware accelerator is put forward. To implement the accelerator, Area folding is introduced to optimize resources consumption. Moreover, Literacy Optimization, Parallelism Optimization, Inter-layer Cascading, Temporary Cache and Data Loading Optimization are adopted to reduce latency. Afterwords, the two components in our accelerator are detailed, i.e., Once-designed module and Re-designed module. Finally, to evaluate the performance and adaptivity of our accelerator, a series of experiments are conducted on two different FPGA platforms, i.e., AX7350 and ZedBoard. Results show that our accelerator can successfully adapt to different FPGA platforms and it can remarkably reduce the processing latency. Moreover, our accelerator’s processing speed of 0.066249s per single data sample with much lower energy consumption is one order of magnitude faster than desktop-level Central Processing Units (CPUs), two orders of magnitude faster than embedded CPUs. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In the present study, three hybrid models include support vector regression-salp swarm optimization (SVR-SSO), support vector regression-biogeography-based (SVR-BBO), and support vector regression-phasor particle swarm optimization (SVR- PPSO) was applied to forecast pond ash's CBR value modified with lime sludge (LS) and lime (LI). In the developed models, five variables were selected as inputs. It can result that the developed integrated models have R2 bigger than 0.9952. It means the agreement between observed and forecasted values by hybrid models is mainly similar to represent the highest accuracy. In both the training and testing stages, PSO-SVR results from better performance than the BBO-SVR model, with R2, RMSE, MAE, and PI equal to 0.9983, 0.6439, 0.3181, and 0.0081 for training data, and 0.9975, 0.7319, 0.4135, and 0.0141 for testing data, respectively. So, by considering the OBJ index, the OBJ value for PSO-SVR is 12.966, lower than BBO-SVR at 16.9957. Therefore, the PSO-SVR model outperforms another model to estimate the CBR of pond ash modified with LI and LS, consequently being recognized as the proposed model that makes it to be used for practical applications. © 2024 - IOS Press. Performing an object detection task after the restoration of a hazy image, or rather detecting with the network backbone directly, will result in the inclusion of information mixed with dehazing, which tends to interfere with detection performance. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework for detecting objects in dehazed images via Dual Cross-Stage Partial Learning (DCSP). Specifically, we introduce a Cross-Stage Partial (CSP) module for extracting clean feature information after dehazing. Secondly, to enhance data integrity, we employ a skip-input strategy to supplement information related to object detection features that may be lost during the dehazing task, while avoiding the gradient vanishing problem. In addition, CSP is also introduced to facilitate comprehensive learning of multiple feature representations. Finally, to avoid the inclusion of irrelevant dehazing information in detection, we apply a Ground-Truth Flow at detection network (at dark3), for fine feature information calibration. Additionally, we created a synthetic fog dataset to expand the training data for DCSP. Experimental results on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method. The code is available at https://***/zhaojinbiao/DCSP. © 2024 IEEE.

DFU_XAI: A Deep Learning-Based Approach to Diabetic Foot Ulcer Detection Using Feature Explainability

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a potentially fatal complication of diabetes. Traditional techniques of DFU analysis and therapy are more time-consuming and costly. Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep neural networks, has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in medical applications. Despite this, the lack of explainability of deep learning models is currently viewed as a key hurdle to using these approaches in actual clinical settings. In this research, we present the DFU_XAI framework for assessing the interpretability of explainable-driven deep learning (DL) models. DFU_XAI evaluates five DL models (Xception, DenseNet121, ResNet50, InceptionV3, and MobileNetV2) to establish a transparent DL framework using three state-of-the-art explanation methods: Shapley additive explanation (SHAP), local interpretable model-agnostic explanations (LIME), and gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM). ResNet50 outperformed the other four models with remarkable results: 98.75% accuracy, 99.2% precision, 97.6% recall, 98.4% F1-score, and 98.5% AUC. For the most part, it can locate diabetic foot ulcers precisely on a diabetic foot and discriminate between diabetic foot ulcers and healthy feet in the DFU dataset. A heat map will indicate the precise location of the ulcer that needs care. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC 2024.

Predicting water quality is essential to preserving human health and environmental sustainability. Traditional water quality assessment methods often face scalability and real-time monitoring limitations. With accuracies of 62%, 72%, 83%, 69%, 63%, 66%, 71%, 63%, and 64%, respectively, the current techniques utilized were Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest Regressor, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Naive Bayes, K-nearest neighbors, Support Vector Machine, AdaBoost, and Bagging [9]. This study addresses these challenges by leveraging Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) to balance the dataset and evaluating model performance on datasets of 5,000 and 10,000 entries per class. A robust dataset obtained from Kaggle was used, with five models – Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Feed Forward Neural Network (FFNN), Categorical Boosting (CatBoost), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Random Forest – evaluated and compared. The proposed methods demonstrate significant improvements in accuracy, with XGBoost achieving the highest accuracy of 95.53%, followed by Random Forest at 93.98%. This work underscores the importance of advanced machine learning techniques in addressing the limitations of traditional methods, enhancing accuracy, scalability, and adaptability in water quality prediction. These findings contribute to advancing environmental monitoring and management practices with reliable, data-driven insights. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper explores the utilization of OpenCV (Open-Source computer Vision Library) in artificial intelligence (AI) systems, elucidating its pivotal role in advancing various applications across diverse domains. A Rearrangement and Restore-Based Mixer Model for Target-Oriented Multimodal Sentiment Classification

With the development of fine-grained multimodal sentiment analysis tasks, target-oriented multimodal sentiment (TMSC) analysis has received more attention, which aims to classify the sentiment of target with the help of textual and associated image features. Existing methods focus on exploring fine-grained image features and incorporate transformer-based complex fusion strategies, while ignoring the heavy computational burden. Recently, some lightweight multilayer perceptrons (MLP)-based methods have been successfully applied to multimodal sentiment classification tasks. In this article, we propose an effective rearrangement and restore mixer model (RR-Mixer) for TMSC, which dedicates the interaction of image, text, and targets along the modal-axis, sequential-axis, and feature channel-axis through rearrangement and restore operations. Specifically, we take vision transformer (ViT) and robustly optimized BERT (RoBERTa) pretrained models to extract image and textual features, respectively. Further, we adopt cosine similarity to select the most semantically relevant image features. Then, an RR-Mixer module is designed for mixed multimodal features, with the core technology consisting of rolling, grouping rearrangement and restore operations. Moreover, we introduce MLP Unit to learn the information of different modalities for intermodal interaction. The results show that our model achieves superior performance on two benchmark multimodal datasets, TWITTER-15 and TWITTER-17, with a significant improvement of 4.66% and 1.26% in terms of macro-F1. © 2020 IEEE.
