Visual object tracking is a traditional task in computer vision, which has developed with several decades. With the development of machine learning, correlation filter (CF) has been proposed with satisfying performance and very high framerate. Though the CF framework has numerous strengths in this task, the tracker is fragile to miss the target in several scenes, including extreme illumination, target occlusion and deformation. Recently, thermal modality, which detects the target’s temperature, is robust to the night scenes and can provide a precise target contour. In this paper, we propose a CF based tracker with decision fusion strategy for visible-thermal (RGB-T) tracking. First, we introduce multi-modal KCF trackers as our baseline. Then, we design a decision fusion method considering the Peak-to-Side Rate (PSR) of the score maps, thereby achieving an adaptive fusing those modalities and avoiding model’s heterogeneity. In the experiments, our tracker has validated on the public dataset, namely GTOT. Compared with two uni-modality trackers, the proposed tracker with real-time speed has shown superior results on both target localization and scale estimation. © 2023 SPIE.

Facial expression recognition(FER)remains a hot research area among computer vision researchers and still becomes a challenge because of high intraclass *** techniques for this problem depend on hand-crafted features,namely,LBP,SIFT,and HOG,along with that a classifier trained on a database of videos or *** execute perform well on image datasets captured in a controlled condition;however not perform well in the more challenging dataset,which has partial faces and image ***,many studies presented an endwise structure for facial expression recognition by utilizing DL ***,this study develops an earthworm optimization with an improved SqueezeNet-based FER(EWOISN-FER)*** presented EWOISN-FER model primarily applies the contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization(CLAHE)technique as a pre-processing *** addition,the improved SqueezeNet model is exploited to derive an optimal set of feature vectors,and the hyperparameter tuning process is performed by the stochastic gradient boosting(SGB)***,EWO with sparse autoencoder(SAE)is employed for the FER process,and the EWO algorithm appropriately chooses the SAE ***-ranging experimental analysis is carried out to examine the performance of the proposed *** experimental outcomes indicate the supremacy of the presented EWOISN-FER technique.

Generative adversarial networks (GANs) are widely recognized for their impressive ability to generate realistic data. Despite the popularity of GANs, training them poses challenges such as mode collapse and instability. To address these issues, many variants enhance GAN performance through improvements in network architecture, modifications to loss functions, and the inclusion of regularization techniques. However, a limited number of methods focuses on optimising GAN performance from the optimiser's perspective, despite the distinct roles different optimisers play in training. Existing GANs typically employ a single optimiser throughout, with Adam being the default choice for GAN training. Approaches using multiple optimisers have shown improved performance but are often task-specific. This paper introduces a novel, portable approach that lever-ages the strengths of multiple training methods, with an evolutionary supervisor coordinating the training of different sections of the network. Initially, real-number-encoded vectors representing the optimiser for each sub-parameter layer undergo pro-gressive enhancement using a standard evolutionary algorithm (SGA). Through the evolutionary process, optimal optimiser combinations are retained based on the performance of the trained GAN. The proposed method, SGA-GANs, is validated on the CIFAR10 dataset by integrating the steps into five benchmark GAN models: GAN, DCGAN, BEGAN, WGAN, and WGAN-GP. Experimental results demonstrate that SGA-GANs outperforms single optimiser training methods, achieving superior evaluation results and generating higher-quality images. Automatic person identification (API) using human biometrics is essential and highly demanded compared to traditional API methods, where a person is automatically identified using his/her distinct characteristics including speech, fingerprint, iris, handwritten signatures, and others. The fusion of more than one human biometric produces bimodal and multimodal API systems that normally outperform single modality systems. This paper presents our work towards fusing speech and handwritten signatures for developing a bimodal API system, where fusion was conducted at the decision level due to the differences in the type and format of the features extracted. A data set is created that contains recordings of usernames and handwritten signatures of 100 persons (50 males and 50 females), where each person recorded his/her username 30 times and provided his/her handwritten signature 30 times. Consequently, a total of 3000 utterances and 3000 handwritten signatures were collected. The speech API used Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) technique for features extraction and Vector Quantization (VQ) for features training and classification. On the other hand, the handwritten signatures API used global features for reflecting the structure of the hand signature image such as image area, pure height, pure width and signature height and the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) architecture of Artificial Neural Network for features training and classification. Once the best matches for both the speech and the handwritten signatures API are produced, the fusion process takes place at decision level. It computes the difference between the two best matches for each modality and selects the modality of the maximum difference. Based on our experimental results, the bimodal API obtained an average recognition rate of 96.40%, whereas the speech API and the handwritten signatures API obtained average recognition rates of 92.60% and 75.20%, respectively. Tourism is a significant source of income for countries and regions, and with the advancement of technology, everything is now interconnected, generating massive amounts of data. Recommender systems are one way to utilize this generated big data. However, currently, Ethiopian Tourism Institutions do not have a system to manage tourist sites, analyze customer preferences and behavior, or filter based on their interests. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop a collaborative-based recommender system for Ethiopian tourism sites. This study applies both user-based collaborative filtering using a cosine similarity algorithm and model-based collaborative filtering using singular value decomposition (SVD), nonnegative matrix factorization(NMF), and K-nearest neighbors (KNNBasic) to analyze the data collected from the Amhara tourism office, which describes the Ethiopian tourism site. After the analysis, the results show that cosine similarity has the lowest root mean square error (RMSE) score. The methodology followed in this research is the design science approach, and the artifact recommender system is developed using the flask framework. After demonstrating the recommender system, domain experts evaluate it, achieving a promising result of 84.2%. The scarcity of data is a significant challenge, and thus, limited attributes for clustering are selected. Using more attributes to make the similarity of tourists will improve the development of the tourist site recommender system, which is left for future researchers to consider. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Tomato is one of the most popular crops worldwide. The success of a tomato crop is highly dependent on the health of the plants. Nutrient deficiency surveillance is typically conducted through visual inspections, which can be challenging for inexperienced farmers and home gardeners to work accurately. There is a growing need for a quick, reliable, and accurate nutrient deficiency identification system to address this issue. The proposed method is based on image processing and deep learning technologies that are highly effective for image classification tasks. Two models were trained using a dataset collected from tomato plants in Sri Lanka and evaluated using Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask R-CNN) and, You Only Look Once (YOLO) for deficiency classification, and results obtained 92% and 98% accuracy, respectively. Deficiency dispersion level expressed as a percentage using Mask R-CNN and followed by image processing techniques. Overall, this proposed system offers a convenient and accessible tool for farmers and home gardeners to monitor and maintain the health of their tomato plants, enabling them to achieve optimal yields and ensure profitable returns. © 2023 IEEE.

The idea behind layered design is the foundation of the Internet of Things. Each tier uses a variety of technologies for capacity, preparation, and information transmission. With regard to the risks and vulnerabilities related to IoT-enabled devices, as well as potential assurance mechanisms in light of equipment constraints and novel information transfer techniques, this study attempts to analyze the current architecture of the Internet of Things. After that, we talk about IoT architecture and applications. The following is a list of effective real-time IoT applications that are now in use: Self-driving cars, traffic management systems, smart grids, logistic management hierarchies, environment monitoring, building safety applications, and many more are examples of emerging technologies. Specifically, we highlight the latest improvements and challenges associated with IoT security. Personalized Federated Learning (pFL) is among the most popular tasks in distributed deep learning, which compensates for mutual knowledge and enables device-specific model personalization. However, the effectiveness of pFL is severely impeded by challenges on fairness and significant communication overhead, where devices holding essential samples have to devote extensive resources for model training. To address these issues, we introduce the Fair and Communication-Efficient Personalized Federated Learning (FCE-PFL) framework, which harmonizes performance and device fairness while maintaining communication costs. Based on the Dempster-Shafer Theory, FCE-PFL employs assistance and contribution metrics to quantify the auxiliary information a client receives and provides. Then FCE-PFL balances and adjusts the involvement of devices in each training iteration, so as to facilitate fair training by constraining the maximum resource consumption per device and reduce the overall communication overhead. Our framework has been proven to be superior to existing methods in accuracy through rigorous experiments on the CIFAR10 and CIFAR100 datasets, demonstrating its potential as a fair and efficient pFL solution. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
