Developing and integrating advanced image sensors with novel algorithms in camera systems are prevalent with the increasing demand for computational photography and imaging on mobile platforms. However, the lack of high-quality data for research and the rare opportunity for in-depth exchange of views from industry and academia constrain the development of mobile intelligent photography and imaging (MIPI). To bridge the gap, we introduce the first MIPI challenge including five tracks focusing on novel image sensors and imaging algorithms. In this paper, we summarize and review the Under-Display Camera (UDC) Image Restoration track on MIPI 2022. In total, 167 participants were successfully registered, and 19 teams submitted results in the final testing phase. The developed solutions in this challenge achieved state-of-the-art performance on Under-Display Camera Image Restoration. A detailed description of all models developed in this challenge is provided in this paper. Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is an emerging cellular communication technology designed for low power wide area applications. Cell selection determines the channel of user device and hence is an important issue in cellular networks. In this paper, we take the first attempt to examine and optimize the the cell selection in NB-IoT networks by field measurement. We conduct measurements at 30 different locations which involve 5 typical application scenarios of NB-IoT. Two kinds of NB-IoT modules and two network operators are also involved in the measurements. We find three potential issues on the cell selection of the User Equipment (UE) through the measurements. We propose an adaptive cell selection approach to optimize the cell selection of UE. The simulation test based on real-world measurement data shows that the cell selected by the adaptive approach can improve the coverage level and reduce the power consumption for UE.

Full-spectrum ranging from sub 6 GHz to THz and visible light will be exploited in 6G in order to reach unprecedented key-performance-indicators (KPIs). However, extraordinary amount of energy will be consumed by network infrastructure, while functions of massively deployed Internet of Everything (IoE) devices are limited by embedded batteries. Therefore, energy self-sustainable 6G is proposed in this article. First of all, it may achieve network-wide energy efficiency by exploiting cell-free and airborne access networks as well as by implementing intelligent holographic environments. Secondly, by exploiting radio-frequency/visible light signals for providing on-demand wireless power transfer (WPT) and for enabling passive backscatter communication, "zero-energy" devices may become a reality. Furthermore, IoE devices actively adapt their transceivers for better performance to a dynamic environment. Explosive growth of mobile data demand may impose a heavy traffic burden on fronthaul links of cloud-based small cell networks (C-SCNs), which deteriorates users’ quality of service (QoS) and requires substantial power consumption. This paper proposes an efficient maximum distance separable (MDS) coded caching framework for a cache-enabled C-SCNs, aiming at reducing long-term power consumption while satisfying users’ QoS requirements in short-term transmissions. To achieve this goal, the cache resource in small-cell base stations (SBSs) needs to be reasonably updated by taking into account users’ content preferences, SBS collaboration, and characteristics of wireless links. Specifically, without assuming any prior knowledge of content popularity, we formulate a mixed timescale problem to jointly optimize cache updating, multicast beamformers in fronthaul and edge links, and SBS clustering. Nevertheless, this problem is anti-causal because an optimal cache updating policy depends on future content requests and channel state information. To handle it, by properly leveraging historical observations, we propose a two-stage updating scheme by using Frobenius-Norm penalty and inexact block coordinate descent method. Furthermore, we derive a learning-based design, which can obtain effective tradeoff between accuracy and computational complexity. This paper presents a novel saliency detection method based on weighted linear multiple kernel learning (WLMKL), which is able to adaptively combine different contrast measurements in a supervised manner. Three commonly used bottom-up visual saliency operations are first introduced, including corner-surround contrast (CSC), center-surround contrast (CESC), and global contrast (GC). Then these contrast measures are fed into our WLMKL framework to produce the final saliency map. We show that the assigned weights for each contrast feature maps are always normalized in our WLMKL formulation. In addition, the proposed approach benefits from the advantages of the contribution of each individual contrast operation, and thus produces more robust and accurate saliency maps. The extensive experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed model, and demonstrate the combination is superior to individual subcomponent. © 2020, Springer science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH. The spatial resolution of remotely sensed images has seen significant improvements; higher resolution facilitates the understanding of remote sensing images and improves the accuracy of building footprint extraction. Thus, this paper introduces a novel approach that combines super-resolution reconstruction with semantic segmentation deep models for building footprint extraction. To begin, a super-resolution reconstruction deep model is employed to enhance the resolution of the target images. Subsequently, training samples are generated using various data augmentation techniques based on the reconstructed images. Finally, a semantic segmentation deep model is trained to perform the final building footprint extraction. For validation, our proposed framework was tested on two publicly available aerial image datasets: the WHU building dataset and the Massachusetts building dataset. The results obtained from these datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of our method, achieving high Intersection over Union (IoU) scores of 90.57% and 75.02%, respectively. Furthermore, our approach outperformed seven other competing methods, showcasing its superior performance.

The Marine science and Numerical Modeling (MASNUM) system, developed for oceanic wave forecasting, play an important role in marine disaster prevention and maritime activities. However, its application is hampered by the requirement of large computing resources. To overcome these barriers, we have implemented an accelerating parallel processing for lightweight expansion of MASNUM (APPLE-MASNUM) on a single compute node with multiple GPUs. In initiating our approach, the mathematical-physics equations of the MASNUM system are thoroughly analyzed to pinpoint the primary computational bottlenecks. This study then transforms MASNUM from a multi-process MPI program into a preliminary GPU-compatible algorithms. Subsequently, the paper proposes an optimization strategy for two-dimensional four-point stencil computations. Following this, an optimization method for overlapping computation with communication is introduced. Finally, a refined data layout scheme tailored for GPUs is designed and implemented. Three numerical experiments with five-day wave forecasts demonstrated that compared to single-core MASNUM, the acceleration ratios of the framework presented in this study are 49.29-fold, 62.58-fold, and 65.74-fold, respectively. This considerable performance boost highlights the efficiency of the lightweight APPLE-MASNUM framework introduced in this research. This signifies the first implementation and optimization of the MASNUM model on a GPU-based heterogeneous platform. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

This paper presents a blockchain-based approach for securing spectrum sharing in multi-beam satellite systems. Satellite spectrum is a scarce resource that requires highly efficient management schemes for optimized sharing by network users. However, spectrum sharing is vulnerable to attacks by malicious protocol participants. In order to ensure efficient spectrum management in the face of dishonest satellite users or cyber attackers, it is important for spectrum sharing mechanism to provide transparency and traceability of the trading process so as to enable the system to detect, and hence eliminate, unauthorized access by malicious users. We address these requirements by proposing the use of blockchain which, apart from its ability to provide transparency and traceability, ensures an immutable means for keeping track of user trading reputation. Besides, in order to address the practical constraints of heterogeneous user nodes, we also propose the use of edge computing to support users with limited computing power. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based spectrum trading framework and, based on which, a multibeam satellite spectrum sharing algorithm for interference pricing and heterogeneous spectrum demands is devised to improve the efficiency of satellite spectrum. By leveraging on the system characteristics of blockchain, a dynamic spectrum sharing mechanism with traceability, openness and transparency for whole trading process is presented. Numerical results are also provided to evaluate the system benefits and spectrum pricing of the proposed mechanism. © 2020, CC BY.
