Identifying different vehicle types can help manage traffic more efficiently, reduce congestion, and improve public safety. This study aims to create a classification model that can recognize vehicle types based on the sound of passing vehicles. To achieve this, a database of raw audio files containing 1763 samples from two sources was assembled. The time-domain signals were converted to a time-frequency representation using the short-time Fourier transform to generate Mel Spectrograms. Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) were also generated using the discrete cosine transform. In our experiments we compared these approaches. Since the data was imbalanced we applied online augmentation. Based on the literature review, we chose a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) classifier because it is particularly well suited for analyzing large datasets due to its automatic feature extraction, parameter sharing and sparsity. The results showed that Mel Spectrograms were more effective for audio data preprocessing in this particular use case, achieving the highest accuracy of 0.875 and the highest f1-score of 0.877 compared to MFCCs. © 2025 IEEE computer Society. ITU-R categorized Nigeria into four rain regions (i.e., M, N, P, and Q) depending on the atmospheric conditions. Previous works that have conducted rain and attenuation modeling and simulations have assumed similar signal propagation behavior and parameters within locations categorized under the same region. This paper aims to explore these assumptions by conducting an extensive radio propagation simulations of point-to-point microwave links with a clear line-of-sight in order to estimate the total path loss (attenuation), excess path loss, and flat fade margins for each of the locations within the M-regions, i.e., Kano, Sokoto, and Adamawa. Results obtained showed that in all the locations, the loss monotonically increases with distance, with Sokoto having the highest level of signal losses and fading, while, Adamawa has the lowest. The deviation for both total loss, excess loss, and flat fading margin was found to be between 15 dB across the region. © 2023 IEEE.

Test-Time Personalization with Meta Prompt for Gaze Estimation

Despite the recent remarkable achievement in gaze estimation, efficient and accurate personalization of gaze estimation without labels is a practical problem but rarely touched on in the literature. To achieve efficient personalization, we take inspiration from the recent advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP) by updating a negligible number of parameters, "prompts", at the test time. Specifically, the prompt is additionally attached without perturbing original network and can contain less than 1% of a ResNet-18's parameters. Our experiments show high efficiency of the prompt tuning approach. The proposed one can be 10 times faster in terms of adaptation speed than the methods compared. However, it is non-trivial to update the prompt for personalized gaze estimation without labels. At the test time, it is essential to ensure that the minimizing of particular unsupervised loss leads to the goals of minimizing gaze estimation error. To address this difficulty, we propose to meta-learn the prompt to ensure that its updates align with the goal. Our experiments show that the meta-learned prompt can be effectively adapted even with a simple symmetry loss. In addition, we experiment on four cross-dataset validations to show the remarkable advantages of the proposed method. Code is available at https://***/hmarkamcan/TPGaze. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is an acute viral infectious disease caused by the dengue virus. Transmitted through the bite of Aedes Mosquitoes and divided into 4 severity. Severity 1 and 2 are characterized by a decrease in platelet levels below normal and there is a change in hemoconcentration, while Severity 3 and 4 are included in Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS). The purpose of the study was to classify the severity of dengue, based on age, gender, platelets, body temperature, bleeding, and also doctor's recommendation. The advancement of information technology is the reason for the development of medical science, especially with artificial intelligence. Abundant medical data becomes a source that can be processed in improving the quality of medical information. The method chosen is Random Forest, kNN, Decision Tree and Naïve Bayes. The dataset used is the medical records of all DHF patients for 30 months in the period Jan 2019 to June 2021, at the Nadhifa Al Ghiffari Clinic in Bojongsoang District, Bandung Regency. © 2022 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is drastically changing our world by making everyday objects an integral part of the Internet. This transformation is increasingly being adopted in the healthcare sector, where Smart Hospitals are now relying on IoT technologies to track staff, patients, devices, and equipment, both within a hospital and beyond. This paradigm opens the door to new innovations for creating novel types of interactions among objects, services, and people in smarter ways to enhance the quality of patient services and the efficient utilisation of resources. However, the realisation of real-time IoT applications in health care and, ultimately, the development of Smart Hospitals are constrained by their current Cloud-based computing environment. Edge computing emerged as a new computing model that harnesses Edge-based resources alongside Clouds for real-time IoT applications. It helps to capitalise on the potential economic impact of the IoT paradigm of $11 trillion per year, with a trillion IoT devices deployed by 2025 to sense, manage, and monitor the hospital systems in real time. This vision paper proposes new algorithms and software systems to tackle important challenges in Edge computing-enabled Smart Hospitals, including how to manage and execute diverse real-time IoT applications and how to meet their diverse and strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in hospital settings. Power grids are one of the most convenient and efficient networks for transferring energy in the form of electricity to every corner of a country. Modernization of power grids through integrating cyber systems such as computer networks, communication devices, central load dispatch centers, etc., makes controlling and managing the power grid networks smoother and more efficient. While this modernization brings operational and managerial benefits, it also introduces the risk of cyber-attacks on power grids. In addition, the power grid's large-scale size, and participation of many stakeholders in different levels of power grid management makes it more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. The main aim is to provide an idea about the cyber-security risk of the power grids to the readers and researchers based on various categorizations, such as cyber security threats, types of attacks, and algorithms, along with the existing limitations and challenges. The threats are classified according to their severity and potential aftereffects. The defense or control strategies against cyber threats are also discussed, along with their strengths and limitations.

Fast and Low-Cost Approximate Multiplier for FPGAs using Dynamic Reconfiguration

Multipliers are widely-used arithmetic operators in digital signal processing and machine learning circuits. Due to their relatively high complexity, they can have high latency and be a significant source of power consumption. One strategy to alleviate these limitations is to use approximate computing. This paper thus introduces an original FPGA-based approximate multiplier specifically optimized for machine learning computations. It utilizes dynamically reconfigurable lookup table (LUT) primitives in AMD-Xilinx technology to realize the core part of the computations. The paper provides an in-depth analysis of the hardware architecture, implementation outcomes, and accuracy evaluations of the multiplier proposed in INT8 precision. Implementation results on an AMD-Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale+ FPGA demonstrate remarkable savings of 64% and 67% in LUT utilization for signed multiplication and multiply-and-accumulation configurations, respectively, when compared to the standard Xilinx multiplier core. Accuracy measurements on four popular deep learning (DL) benchmarks indicate a minimal average accuracy decrease of less than 0.29% during post-training deployment, with the maximum reduction staying less than 0.33%. The global market of machine condition monitoring is projected to grow at a rate of 8.3% in next five years. The recent technological advancement in IoTs and AI has driven predictive maintenance to be one of the most effective approach in this domain. Vibration analysis is the most efficient technique used to carry out predictive maintenance, using advanced data- driven intelligent approaches. The vibration data carries most significant information regarding the health state of machine components especially bearings. The proposed hybrid framework utilizes CNN and transformer utilizing the complex weightsharing capabilities of CNNs, combined with ability of transformer to capture the broader context of spatial relationships in large-scale patterns, making it suitable for datasets of varying sizes. A fault detection accuracy of 98.86% is achieved through experimentation on a run-to-failure real-industrial environment dataset composed of vibration data of large-scale coaxial fans.

Signal propagation in a particular region differs from another due to differences in atmospheric, climatic and environmental properties, distinct terrain and clutter features. Adequate analysis is essential to understand the radio propagation behavior in a particular region. The ITU-R designated four rain regions, M, N, P, and Q, for Nigeria representing the rain rate distribution and also provided further classifications based on ground conductivity, among other salient parameters. Based on these classifications, this paper utilized the EDX Signal Pro software® to model and simulate a typical Point-to-Point (P2P), Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) link scenarios for 5G networks. The objective was to estimate and compare the total loss, excess loss, and flat fade margins for each rain region in Nigeria. Results obtained from the comparison showed that signals propagating in region N experience the highest level of losses and fading, while, region Q has the least losses and fading. © 2023 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) enables geographically distributed clients to collaboratively train machine learning models by exchanging local model parameters while preserving data privacy. In practice, FL faces two critical challenges. First, it is vulnerable to security issues as malicious clients would artificially harm the functionality of FL by launching poisoning attacks. Second, the inherent data heterogeneity among clients (termed Non-IID data in FL) naturally arises from distributed data ownership and significantly degrades model convergence and accuracy. However, with studies separately devoted to these two research lines, the interplay between data heterogeneity and security remains poorly understood. In this paper, we systematically investigate the relationship between data heterogeneity and adversarial robustness in FL. Specifically, we propose novel data partitioning algorithms that simulate Label-Conditional Non-IID and Feature-Conditional Non-IID with quantifiable heterogeneity levels. Further, we conduct extensive experiments to evaluate classical defense methods in the practical FL environment under state-of-the-art untargeted attacks. With results in various settings, we separately analyze the connection between Non-IID to defenses and attacks. Regarding attacks, with similar effects on models, Non-IID impacts the training in a different way compared with attacks. The interaction between attacks and Non-IID provides an opportunity to cause severe damage to FL. Regarding defenses, Non-IID induces heterogeneity in model distribution among clients which raises the difficulty of maintaining fidelity and robustness for defense methods. © 2005-2012 IEEE.
