Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is emerging as a promising paradigm to provide flexible computing services close to user devices (UDs). However, meeting the computation-hungry and delay-sensitive demands of UDs faces several challenges, including the resource constraints of MEC servers, inherent dynamic and complex features in the MEC system, and difficulty in dealing with the time-coupled and decision-coupled optimization. In this work, we first present an edge-cloud collaborative MEC architecture, where the MEC servers and cloud collaboratively provide offloading services for UDs. Moreover, we formulate an energy-efficient and delay-aware optimization problem (EEDAOP) to minimize the energy consumption of UDs under the constraints of task deadlines and long-term queuing delays. Since the problem is proved to be non-convex mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP), we propose an online joint communication resource allocation and task offloading approach (OJCTA). Specifically, we transform EEDAOP into a real-time optimization problem by employing the Lyapunov optimization framework. Then, to solve the real-time optimization problem, we propose a communication resource allocation and task offloading optimization method by employing the Tammer decomposition mechanism, convex optimization method, bilateral matching mechanism, and dependent rounding method. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed OJCTA can achieve superior system performance compared to the benchmark approaches. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The analysis of high-dimensional microarray gene expression data presents critical challenges, including excessive dimensionality, increased computational burden, and sensitivity to random initialization. Traditional optimization algorithms often produce inconsistent and suboptimal results, while failing to preserve local data structures limiting both predictive accuracy and biological interpretability. To address these limitations, this study proposes an adaptive neighborhood-preserving multi-objective particle swarm optimization (ANPMOPSO) framework for gene selection. ANPMOPSO introduces four key innovations: (1) a weighted neighborhood-preserving ensemble embedding (WNPEE) technique for dimensionality reduction that retains local structure;(2) Sobol sequence (SS) initialization to enhance population diversity and convergence stability;(3) a differential evolution (DE)-based adaptive velocity update to dynamically balance exploration and exploitation;and (4) a novel ranking strategy that combines Pareto dominance with neighborhood preservation quality to prioritize biologically meaningful gene subsets. Experimental evaluations on six benchmark microarray datasets and eleven multi-modal test functions (MMFs) demonstrate that ANPMOPSO consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods. For example, it achieves 100% classification accuracy on Leukemia and Small-Round-Blue-Cell Tumor (SRBCT) using only 3–5 genes, improving accuracy by 5–15% over competitors while reducing gene subsets by 40–60%. Additionally, on MMFs, ANPMOPSO attains superior hypervolume values (e.g., 1.0617 ± 0.2225 on MMF1, approximately 10–20% higher than competitors), confirming its robustness in balancing convergence and diversity. Although the method incurs higher training time due to its structural and adaptive components, it achieves a strong trade-off between computational cost and biological relevance, making it a promising tool for high-dimensional gene selection in bioinformatics. © 2025

Medical errors contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality, emphasizing the critical role of Clinical Guidelines (GLs) in patient care. Automating GL application can enhance GL adherence, improve patient outcomes, and reduce costs. However, several barriers exist to GL implementation and real-time automated support. Challenges include creating a formalized, machine-comprehensible GL representation, and an episodic decision-support system for sporadic treatment advice. This system must accommodate the non-continuous nature of care delivery, including partial actions or partially met treatment goals. We describe the design and implementation of an episodic GL-based clinical decision support system and its retrospective technical evaluation using patient records from a geriatric center. Initial evaluation scores of the e-Picard system were promising, with a mean 94% correctness and 90% completeness based on 50 random pressure ulcer patients. Errors were mainly due to knowledge specification, algorithmic issues, and missing data. Post-corrections, scores improved to 100% correctness and a mean 97% completeness, with missing data still affecting completeness. The results validate the system's capability to assess guideline adherence and provide quality recommendations. Despite initial limitations, we have demonstrated the feasibility of providing, through the e-Picard episodic algorithm, realistic medical decision-making support for noncontinuous, intermittent consultations. © 2024 The Authors.

This paper presents a methodology for enhancing actuator performance in older devices or retrofitting devices with haptic feedback actuators. The approach is versatile, accommodating various actuator and mounting positions. Through a frequency sweep analysis, the system's characteristics are captured, enabling the creation of location-specific transfer functions to accurately transform input signals into command signals for a precise output at the target location. This method offers fast and simple collection of the system properties and generation of location-specific signals. © 2024, CC BY.

An independent industrial system may transform into a connected network through the assistance of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The deployed sensors in the IIoT maintain surveillance of the industrial machinery and equipment. As a result, safety and reliability emerge as the primary concerns in IIoT. This presents a variety of well-known and increasing issues related to the industrial system. The IIoT devices are exposed to a wide range of malware, threats, and assaults. To prevent the IIoT devices from malware effects, effective protection plans must be implemented. But adequate security mechanisms are not be incorporated in IIoT devices with limited resources. It is essential to ensure the accuracy and dependability of information gathered by IIoT devices. Decisions taken with incomplete or inaccurate data might be devastating. To overcome these difficulties deep learning with reinforcement learning for complex decision-making in industry applications is developed in this research work. In this developed model, an Adaptive Deep Reinforcement learning (ADRL)-based resource management is performed to reduce the operation cost associated with IIoT deployments. Energy efficiency is essential in IIoT ecosystem, particularly for the devices that run on batteries. Through dynamic resource allocation based on workload needs and energy limits, ADRL-based resource management optimizes the usage of energy. The reliability of the designed model is enhanced by fine-tuning the parameters from DRL using the Ship Rescue Optimization (SRO) algorithm. Thus, ADRL-based resource management systems make real-time decisions based on current environmental conditions and system requirements. This helps the IIoT systems to react quickly to change demands and optimize resource allocation. Many economically essential crops in Indonesia (such as coffee, tea, chocolate, or copra) require storage or drying under certain environmental conditions, especially temperature and humidity. The solar dryer dome, typically used for agricultural purposes in Indonesia, produces a sufficient amount of heat to increase the evaporation rate inside the dome and reduce the moisture content of the commodity. A hybrid solar dryer accompanied by a photovoltaic panel, fan, and ventilation system is generally suitable. The system can provide an optimum environment with minimum control. However, as the outdoor temperature and humidity change dramatically, such as at night time, more control is required. Based on Industry 4.0 technologies, we have developed a new kind of hybrid solar dryer that provides an optimum environment 24/7. The system, called Smart Dome 4.0, is an intelligent, low-cost, self-sufficient drying and storage system to support Indonesia Agriculture 4.0. The system has a local power generation unit to self-sustain the required energy and operate without connecting to the electricity grid. The system utilizes a machine-learning algorithm to predict the environmental condition and optimally uses self-generated electric power. The developed Smart Dome 4.0 technology is critical to producing a sustainable solar dome under drastic environmental dynamics. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Recently, Wang et al. proposed a computationally transferable authenticated key agreement protocol for smart healthcare by adopting the certificateless public-key cryptography. They claimed that their protocol could ensure privacy, resist various attacks, and possess superior properties. After analyzing their protocol, we find that it suffers from some flaws. Firstly, user privacy is not ensured as claimed. Secondly, some statements are inaccurate or missing. Thirdly, it cannot resist DoS attack. In this paper, the details of how these flaws threaten Wang et al.'s protocol are shown. © 2023 IEEE.

Image classifiers based on over-parametrized deep convolutional neural networks with an average-pooling are proposed. The weights of the network are learned by gradient descent. We present the bound on the rate of convergence of the difference between the expected misclassification risk of the plug-in classifier and the Bayes risk. The obtained rate of convergence is independent of image dimension under appropriate constraints on the image distribution.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most pressing health concerns because so many people are afflicted by its disabling symptoms. Factors such as age, excess body fat, insufficient physical activity, a history of diabetes in one's family, a sedentary lifestyle, an unhealthy diet, hypertension, etc., all increase the likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus. Health complications are more common in people with diabetes, including cardiovascular disease, renal failure, stroke, blindness, and nerve injury. To validate a diagnosis of diabetes, hospitals typically perform a battery of procedures on the patient. Big data analytics has many vital applications in the healthcare sector. Numerous large computer systems are used in the healthcare sector. With the help of big data analytics, researchers can sift through mountains of data in search of previously unseen patterns and insights. Current techniques have a poor degree of precision in classification and forecast. While previous research has focused on factors such as glucose, body mass index, age, insulin, etc., the proposed model takes these into account and also the other factors that may be more relevant to the development of diabetes. The newer sample is superior to the older one based on categorization accuracy. A workflow algorithm for diabetes prognosis is also required to improve the accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift in organizations' strategies toward innovative online services. Customer reviews on platforms for online ordering and delivery are a vital source of information about how well a business is performing. Businesses that provide food delivery services (FDS) seek to leverage consumer input to locate areas where customer satisfaction could be raised. Sentiment analysis (SA) has been the subject of an enormous amount of English-language research. Despite Arabic's increasing popularity as a writing language on the Internet, not much study has been conducted on sentiment analysis of Arabic up to this point, with a limited number of publicly available resources for Arabic SA such as datasets and lexicons. The present study collects FDS-related reviews in Arabic to conduct extensive emotion mining, taking advantage of Natural Language Processing, feature selection, and Machine Learning techniques to elicit personal judgments, identify polarity, and recognize customers’ feelings in the FDS domain. To demonstrate that the proposed approach is suitable for analyzing human perceptions of FDS, we designed and carried out excessive experiments that assess the utility of each phase. Our highest categorization accuracy was 90 % using Mutual Information with the SVM classifier. The study's findings provide various managerial insights for improving their plans and service delivery, as well as revealing the main reasons for consumer complaints. It also demonstrates how future academics might harness the power of online business reviews in Arabic using a variety of text-mining approaches. © 2024 The Author(s)
