Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning-based methods show constant promise in addressing time series forecasting challenges. Lake water level forecasting is an essential & significant environmental and societal impact related time series forecasting problem, with climate change connections. Lakes’ diverse hydrological characteristics make high-performance forecasting models to be lake-specific. Thus, comprehensive experiments are necessary to develop accurate deep learning-based forecasting models. We propose an approach for effective and efficient systematic search conduction for high-performance Deep Learning forecasting models. The method is applicable across various time series forecasting challenges. The research was structured around three experimental groups, each focusing on predicting the water levels of Lake Vesijärvi in Lahti, Finland, over periods of 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days, respectively with Long Short-Term Memory and Gated Recurrent Unit. The results are highly promising. All models achieved a Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency above 0.95 and a Root Mean Squared Error below 0.025. The best-performing model achieved a Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency above 0.99 and a Root Mean Squared Error below 0.0011. All evaluation metrics were calculated from testing data without signs of overfitting. This research provides insights into Deep Learning-based time series forecasting and a replicable method to conduct such studies effectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In the complicated world of legal law, Question Answering (QA) systems only work if they can give correct, situation-aware, and logically sound answers. Traditional evaluation methods, which rely on superficial similarity measures, can't catch the complex accuracy and reasoning needed in legal answers. This means that evaluation methods need to change completely. To fix the problems with current methods, this study presents a new model-based evaluation metric that is designed to work well with legal QA systems. We are looking into the basic ideas that are needed for this kind of metric, as well as the problems of putting it into practice in the real world, finding the right technological frameworks, creating good evaluation methods. We talk about a theory framework that is based on legal standards and computational linguistics. We also talk about how the metric was created and how it can be used in real life. Our results, which come from thorough tests, show that our suggested measure is better than existing ones. It is more reliable, accurate, and useful for judging legal quality assurance systems. © 2023 IEEE.

This research presents a web-based real-time Sri Lankan Sign Language (SLSL) translation system aimed at bridging communication gaps for individuals with speech and hearing disabilities. Leveraging advanced machine learning, the system translates SLSL gestures into Tamil vocal language and American Sign Language (ASL), supported by video-to-text conversion with Yolo-NAS, voice model and clips of animated 3D characters. Key objectives included accurate vocabulary mapping for selected vocabularies, real-time translation with minimal latency, an audio player to display Tamil voice and animated 3D characters to convey nuanced ASL gestures. The system is integrated as one website, but each translation part has separate pages where users can navigate and fulfill their needs. User feedback highlighted the simple and direct user interface design and fluidity of interactions, particularly the animated 3D characters in SLSL to ASL translation. Challenges included optimizing gesture rendering and expanding vocabulary coverage, which will be addressed in future work. This research underscores the potential of AI-driven solutions for enhancing accessibility and inclusivity in communication with cross-lingual and cross-model communication features. © 2024 IEEE.

The role of the amount of data used in increasing the effectiveness of deep learning models is very important. Due to the insufficient publicly available data in some sub-fields of health, data augmentation is vital. This study proposes an approach to improve the experimental work process in deep learning-based injury detection using data augmentation techniques on knee Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. The study is also one of the few in the body of literature to examine the impact of data augmentation in hard tissues. The effect of data augmentation on classification performance is tested using various transfer learning models, and the highest success rates in this study are determined for three classes. Forecasting achievements: the accuracy is 89.98% in the abnormal, 80.35% in the anterior cruciate ligament, and 76.66% in the meniscus classes. As a result of the experiments, it has been seen that the AutoAugment architecture works faster and generally gives more successful results than other augmentation methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Accurate and early diagnosis of brain tumors plays a vital role in determining appropriate treatment and increasing survival rates. Manual diagnosis using MRI images is often prone to errors and can be a tedious and time-consuming procedure. As a result, automated computer-aided systems that utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques are widely used. However, accurately diagnosing the type of brain tumor remains a significant and complex challenge for today's medical imaging research community. In this paper, we present an enhanced transfer learning approach that aims to differentiate brain tumor types using MRI scans while achieving state-of-the-art performance. In the proposed approach, the pre-trained VGG-19 network with fixed weights is used to map MRI scans to a high-level numerical representation. The extracted features are then passed to a support vector machine algorithm to classify brain tumors into one of three major categories: glioma, meningioma, and pituitary. To further improve the performance of the model, the effectiveness of utilizing feature optimization techniques based on the radial basis similarity function and L1-penalty logistic regression was investigated. For evaluation, the benchmark Figshare dataset containing 3064 MRI images was used after a series of processing operations. The proposed system achieved a high overall accuracy of 98.53%, outperforming other analogues. © 2024 IEEE.

Facial Emotion Recognition is one of the in-demand and rapidly growing research topics in the domain of computer Vision (CV) and artificial intelligence (AI). The ability to identify or detect human emotions from real-time facial expressions (FEs) has vast conceivable applications in different domains, such as sentiment analysis, human-computer interaction, human resource management, security, and human psychology. In this paper, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based deep learning model is trained with haar-cascade classifier to recognize the real-time FEs. The suggested model is specially trained to categorize the FEs into one of the seven emotion categories, namely six basic emotions (sad, happy, angry, surprised, disgusted, fear) and a neutral emotion. It includes several convolutional layers, as well as fully connected neurons followed by max-pooling layers, and soft-max activation function with the corresponding seven classes. ReLU activation functions along with various kernels to enhance filtering depth, and extraction of facial features. FER-2013 dataset is used for experimentation purpose. To improve the classification performance and model accuracy, a data augmentation technique is used for rescaling and horizontal flipping. The proposed model outperforms the previous related works by achieving a validation accuracy of 71.96% and training accuracy above 90%, with fewer epochs. © 2023 IEEE.

software engineering applications in domains like embedded systems and health care have increased exponentially during the last few years. Developing, analyzing, and customization of languages is one of the core software engineering aspects. This usually involves lexical, syntactical, and semantic operations, technically termed parsing. For this, several parsers have been introduced in state-of-the-art. However, due to diverse features, selecting a parser for a particular operation during software engineering applications is always problematic. In this article, we identified six leading parsers (i.e., ANTLR, JavaCC, SableCC, Tree-sitter, Yacc, and Bison) from the state-of-the-art. Furthermore, we also identified significant parser features to perform meaningful comparative analysis. Results indicate that ANTLR and JavaCC provide enhanced parsing features, such as the parsing algorithm and the extended grammar notation. However, JavaCC is suitable for simple grammar definition, whereas ANTLR allows specifying complex grammar with multiple alternative paths. The findings of this article are highly beneficial for researchers and practitioners while selecting the right parser to perform specific software engineering tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

The extensive spread of DeepFake images on the internet has emerged as a significant challenge, with applications ranging from harmless entertainment to harmful acts like blackmail, misinformation, and spreading false propaganda. To tackle this issue, this paper introduces a sophisticated DeepFake detection model designed to identify and mitigate the increase of these deceptive images. The model architecture integrates an ensemble approach, combining the strengths of two pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models - MobileNet and Xception - with a novel CNN architecture, the Advanced CNN (ACNN). This rigorous validation process enabled the model to achieve a high accuracy rate of 97.89% in detecting DeepFakes. The successful implementation of this ensemble CNN approach demonstrates its effectiveness in distinguishing between real and fabricated imagery with high precision. This research makes a substantial contribution to the field of digital image forensics, offering a reliable tool for stakeholders across various sectors to identify and counteract the spread of DeepFake images online. © 2024 IEEE.

The correlation of security alerts is crucial for effective threat detection and mitigation in modern cybersecurity landscapes. With the exponential growth in the volume of generated alerts, there arises an imperative to continually develop new, efficient methods for alert correlation. The use of Large Language Models (LLMs) presents new avenues for enhancing real-time threat detection in the field of cybersecurity. In this paper, we introduce MCM-Llama, a fine-tuned language model aimed at improving security event correlation for real-time threat detection. Building upon our prior research, we augment the current framework by integrating MCM-Llama and introducing a novel architecture to practically implement our proposition. In doing so, we replace the correlation module previously based on Named Entity Recognition (NER) and semantic similarity with a fine-tuned Large Language Model (LLM). This transition allows us to capitalize on the advanced capabilities of LLM in comprehending and correlating security events dynamically. Through this enhancement, we aim to significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of our threat detection system while leveraging the full potential of LLM technology in cybersecurity. Our experimental results validate the efficacy of the proposed approach by significantly improving the correlation rate, thereby reinforcing the pivotal role of Large Language Models (LLMs) in advancing security event correlation and threat detection methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.
