In a network topology $G$ , we say a set of st-paths are disaster-disjoint if no disaster strikes more than one path. In this poster, we explore the basic capabilities and limitations of greedy and more advanced algorithms for computing maximal collections of such paths in planar networks. An algorithm is greedy if it generates consecutive paths $P_{1}, P_{2},\ldots$ according to a simple rule. In the simplest setting, the only rule is that $P_{i+1}$ is the closest clockwise disaster-disjoint from $P_{i}$ . We find that the simplest greedy may fail even when 1) $G$ is planar, 2) each disaster region is connected, and 3) each node failure (apart from s and $t$ ) is considered possible. Adding a simple rule explained in [1] yields a correct polynomial-time algorithm for the above problem. Finally, we digest a recent related near-linear runtime algorithm of [2] solving a more general problem and discuss the underlying relations among the foundations of these algorithms.

Hydrogen electrolysis systems have seen considerable interest from energy communities as a potential solution for shifting from fossil-based energy resources to clean energy alternatives. The system consists of transforming electricity into hydrogen via water electrolysis. As it is expected to have a large-scale connection with the grid to compensate the fluctuation of renewables, it is important to understand the system’s technical and economic feasibility. Therefore, this work aims to provide a high-level techno-economic assessment for the participation of a large-scale electrolysis plant in hydrogen and grid ancillary service markets. The plant generates revenue from two sources: hydrogen and frequency regulation. Based on market prices of electricity and hydrogen, a linear programming (LP) optimization has shown that a 50MW electrolysis plant can generate a 33% increase in profit if the plant includes the grid support market in the business model. Additionally, simulations under unstable grid frequency have shown high reactivity of the system to maintain grid stability.

Optical background radiation measurement to characterize the optical noises is essential because the ambient light can be a degradation and limiting factor of classical and quantum free-space optical communication. A measurement setup for ambient optical noise measurement was designed and developed, and it is realized in a protective housing. The measurement unit is equipped with a camera with the same orientation as the detectors and takes photos of the sky. The optical power measurement was performed at different locations and different wavelength ranges, including 1550 nm and 810 nm optical bands. The measured results show that a clouded sky attenuates the signal heavily, and at the same time it increases the amount of noise at the receiver. The effects of the movement of clouds and dark rain clouds are also presented.

This paper investigates the feasibility of a bidirectional Mode Division Multiplexing (MDM) system designed for in-building mobile network solutions. Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) were employed to ensure precise selection of light modes, minimizing the risk of unwanted modes being excited during propagation within the Few Mode Fiber (FMF). The FMF core diameter was chosen to support two specific modes, one dedicated to downlink and the other to uplink transmission. System behavior was analyzed across various fiber lengths to determine potential limitations. Our simulations indicate that this approach could lead to the simplification of Remote Radio Units (RRUs) while maintaining the high-capacity transmission essential for in-building environments.

The Skolem Problem asks to decide whether a given integer linear recurrence sequence (LRS) has a zero term. Decidability of this problem has been open for many decades, with little progress since the 1980s. Recently, a new approach was initiated via the notion of a Skolem set - a set of positive integers relative to which the Skolem Problem is decidable. More precisely, S is a Skolem set for a class L of integer LRS if there is an effective procedure that, given an LRS in L, decides whether the sequence has a zero in S. A recent work exhibited a Skolem set for the class of all LRS that, while infinite, had density zero. Retinal prostheses are designed to aid individuals with retinal degenerative conditions such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). These prostheses seek to restore vision and improve the perceived scene by stimulating degenerated retinal cells using retinal stimulating electrodes. While these electrodes allow more efficient interaction with the surroundings, they offer limited *** paper presents an innovative approach to revolutionize the visual perception of retinal prosthesis users. The key idea behind the proposed approach is to fuse information extracted from advanced Meanshift and saliency detection algorithms. This proposed approach aims to improve the perceived scene for users, leading to enhanced visual perception and increased efficiency of retinal prostheses.

With recent advances in the development of more powerful quantum computers, the research area of quantum software engineering is emerging. Quantum software plays a critical role in exploiting the full potential of quantum computing systems. As a result, it has been drawing increasing attention recently to provide concepts, principles, and guidelines to address the ongoing challenges of quantum software development. The importance of the topic motivated us to voice out a call for action to develop a readiness model that will help an organization assess its capability of migration from classic software engineering to quantum software engineering. The proposed model will be based on the existing multivocal literature, industrial empirical study, understanding of the process areas, challenging factors and enablers that could impact the quantum software engineering process. We believe that the proposed model will provide a roadmap for software development organizations to measure their readiness concerning to transformation from classic to quantum software engineering by suggesting best practices and highlighting important process areas, challenges, and enablers. © 2022, CC BY.

The anticipated complexity of future communication networks (e.g. 6G) demands the use of advanced complex network analysis tools and methodologies during their conceptualization, design, and operation. In this paper, we introduce a new family of navigation architectures and algorithms based on a specialized geometric embedding of complex networks. We demonstrate that this approach is scalable with respect to routing table sizes and allows nodes to make navigation decisions without full knowledge of the system's topology. While this method requires additional connections to extend the original network, the cost is minimal, as these extra links represent only a small fraction of the network's size and can be factored into the design. We showcase the effectiveness of this approach within prospective communication architectures.

This paper deals with the problem of detecting the malware by using emulation approach. Modern malware include various avoid techniques, to hide its anomaly actions. Advantages of using sandbox and emulation technologies are described. Various anti-emulation techniques that are used in modern malware considered. Obfuscation as one primary approach to hide malware malicious actions described and discussed. State of emulator is presented, and the advantages of its usage are covered. Distributed model for malware detection is considered. Basic emulator and its current capabilities presented. Prepared files that represent malware are described. Experimental results for developed files that differs with included avoid techniques are presented. Disadvantages of proposed approach is described. Future research and sandbox improvement are described.

This paper introduces the application of Mode Division Multiple Access (MDMA) in the context of In-Building Solutions (IBS) for mobile networks. The study showcases the successful generation and selection of light modes which are then efficiently multiplexed and demultiplexed at the Remote Radio Unit (RRU) end. Despite the proven operational capabilities, the findings reveal a decline in signal quality as the distance increases, thus limiting the use of MDMA for longdistance fronthaul applications. The proposed system also simplifies the RRU by centralizing key functionalities at the Central Office (CO), potentially reducing costs and the operational expenses (OPEX/CAPEX) associated with inbuilding solutions and other mobile network deployments. This work extends previous research and paves the way for future studies, particularly in the application of the Power over Fiber (PWoF) approach to reduce RRU complexities further.
