Blockchain technology has garnered increasing attention from researchers. Because blockchain systems may contain malicious or spatially limited nodes that may delay block verification and reduce block transmission rate, this work proposes a block transmission model by designing and using special clusters. This work proposes the cluster formation and selection mechanisms. Nodes are grouped into clusters in a blockchain, and clusters with high fitness values are chosen to transmit blocks by calculating their trust values and block transmission rates. The proposed method is compared with the peers: Layer-Chain, BlockP2P-EP and RNS. According to experimental findings, the proposed method is superior to its peers regarding the time needed for block synchronization and transmission, block occupation storage ratio, transaction throughput, and block transmission success ratio. © 2024 IEEE.

Uplink control information (UCI) and discontinuous reception (DRX) play important roles for massive machine type communication (mMTC). Despite their standalone significance, a conspicuous gap exists in comprehensively exploring the synergy between UCI and DRX concerning both energy conservation and latency reduction for mMTC. In this letter, we propose a UCI-based clustered access and DRX management (UCADM) scheme that strikes a balance between these two critical performance metrics, reducing energy usage while preserving low latency in uplink-downlink interaction for mMTC. Specifically, we present a strictly feasible solution for the proposed UCADM scheme by using the spectral radius and the constraint projection, which can effectively solve DRX switching operations as indicated by scheduling information from UCI. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our scheme. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

With the onset of technological advancements, biosensors are being effectively used in a variety of contexts, including the diagnosis of diseases, the promotion of their prevention and rehabilitation, the monitoring of patient health, and human activity recognition (HAR). Recently, HAR research results have been obtained and applied in many commercial applications such as fall detection using smart watch sensors, activity classification using smart home sensors. However, previous HAR models utilizing wearable sensors primarily utilized data from healthy individuals, and such models are frequently inaccurate when applied to individuals with medical mobility impairments. In this work, surface electromyography and goniometer sensors were used to categorize various types of rehabilitation activities based on HAR models developed for individuals with knee abnormalities. To achieve the goal of our study, a deep residual network called ResNeXt was proposed to detect human activities with high performance. To investigate the classification performance of deep learning models, a 5-fold cross-validation technique was applied for both training and testing. Based on the results of our study, the combination of features extracted from the goniometer and electromyograph signals resulted in the highest F1-score (93.31%) and the best accuracy (93.52%). © 2023 IEEE.

Hidden Vector Encryption (HVE) is a new kind of attribute-based encryption in which a vector is hidden in the ciphertext or linked with the secret key. In ESORICS 2014, Phuong et al. proposed an HVE scheme with constant-size ciphertext which is constructed in the prime order setting. In this paper, we show that Phuong et al.'s scheme is not vector-hiding due to public parameters in their scheme leak some information about vectors. Furthermore, an improved HVE scheme is proposed in the prime order setting and its security is proven in the security model. Comparison shows our scheme has more efficient in decryption than current other HVE schemes. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

This paper proposes a scheme addressing the challenges of integrating privacy-preserving distributed machine learning in the Internet of Things (IoT) context while improving the efficiency of the learning process and accelerating the convergence of the model. Specifically, it addresses the presence of non-independent and identically distributed (Non-IID) data and device heterogeneity, which occurs during parallel training and are common characteristics of IoT environments. In this context, SplitFed is a privacy-preserving technique that combines Federated Learning (FL) and Split Learning (SL) to enable fast and privacy-preserving model training on IoT devices. Through parallelism, FL allows fast and parallel model training. Furthermore, SL enables weak devices to train models through model splitting. However, SplitFed suffers from the increasing convergence time due to the FL parallelism introducing Non-IID and stragglers issues. In this paper, we aim to address the aforementioned problems by proposing a clustering parallelization scheme. As such, similar clients are combined based on their weight divergence and considered a single FL unit addressing the Non-IID problem. Moreover, to improve time efficiency and overcome the stragglers' presence, we offer a second clustering stage that separates clients by efficiency and uses FedAsync for model aggregation. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates the anomaly-resistant decentralized state estimation(SE) problem for a class of wide-area power systems which are divided into several non-overlapping areas connected through transmission lines. Two classes of measurements(i.e., local measurements and edge measurements) are obtained, respectively, from the individual area and the transmission lines. A decentralized state estimator, whose performance is resistant against measurement with anomalies, is designed based on the minimum error entropy with fiducial points(MEEF) criterion. Specifically, 1) An augmented model, which incorporates the local prediction and local measurement, is developed by resorting to the unscented transformation approach and the statistical linearization approach;2) Using the augmented model, an MEEF-based cost function is designed that reflects the local prediction errors of the state and the measurement;and 3) The local estimate is first obtained by minimizing the MEEF-based cost function through a fixed-point iteration and then updated by using the edge measuring information. Finally, simulation experiments with three scenarios are carried out on the IEEE 14-bus system to illustrate the validity of the proposed anomaly-resistant decentralized SE scheme.

Nowadays, one of the most important objectives in health-related research is the improvement of the living condition and well-being of people. Smart home systems can provide health protection for residents based on the results of daily activity recognition. Recent advances and developments in sensor technology have increased the need for sensor-compatible goods and services in smart homes. Consequently, the ever-increasing volume of data requires the field of deep learning (DL) for auto-matic human motion recognition. Recent research has modeled spatiotemporal sequences gathered by smart home sensors using long short-term memory networks. In this work, ResNeXt-based models that learn to classify human activities in smart homes were proposed to improve recognition performance. Experiments conducted on Center for Advanced Studies in Adaptive Systems (CASAS) data, a publicly available benchmark dataset, shows that the proposed ResNeXt-based techniques are significantly superior to the existing DL methods and provide better results compared to the existing literature. The ResNeXt model achieved the averaged accuracy over the benchmark method to 84.81%, 93.57%, and 90.38% for the CASAS-Cairo, CASAS-Milan and CASAS-Kyoto3 datasets, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Explainable-AI-based two-stage solution for WSN object localization using zero-touch mobile transceivers

Artificial intelligence technology is widely used in the field of wireless sensor networks(WSN).Due to its inexplicability, the interference factors in the process of WSN object localization cannot be effectively eliminated. In this paper, an explainable-AI-based two-stage solution is proposed for WSN object localization. In this solution, mobile transceivers are used to enlarge the positioning range and eliminate the blind area for object localization. The motion parameters of transceivers are considered to be unavailable,and the localization problem is highly nonlinear with respect to the unknown parameters. To address this,an explainable AI model is proposed to solve the localization problem. Since the relationship among the variables is difficult to fully include in the first-stage traditional model, we develop a two-stage explainable AI solution for this localization problem. The two-stage solution is actually a comprehensive consideration of the relationship between variables. The solution can continue to use the constraints unused in the firststage during the second-stage, thereby improving the performance of the solution. Therefore, the two-stage solution has stronger robustness compared to the closed-form solution. Experimental results show that the performance of both the two-stage solution and the traditional solution will be affected by numerical changes in unknown parameters. However, the two-stage solution performs better than the traditional solution, especially with a small number of mobile transceivers and sensors or in the presence of high noise. Furthermore,we have also verified the feasibility of the proposed explainable-AI-based two-stage solution.

Drought is an environmental and economic problem. Sustainable ecosystems, water resources, food security, and ecosystem sustainability. Machine all are severely affected by drought. Due to the increasing frequency and severity of droughts caused by climate change. Effective drought modeling is crucial for early warning systems and risk mitigation. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques have been developed as potential drought modeling tools, which offer accurate and reliable drought detection. This review paper summarizes the drought modeling(Drought Prediction, Drought Detection and Drought Forecasting) approaches. This paper focuses on three main aspect. 1) The selection of the region for this study, for this study South Asia(SA) is selected as region of interest (ROI) that offer accurate drought modeling, providing policymakers and decision-makers with insightful information. The geographical scope of this study is the region of South Asia. This region is selected because of its heavy reliance on agriculture. 2) This paper focuses on the current and future trends, challenges, and advances of and vulnerability to droughts. The review offers a thorough grasp of how drought conditions are evaluated by gathering and analyzing the most important drought indicators and metrics specific to South Asia. The paper explores the current state-of-the-art in ML and DL for drought modeling. 3) This review encapsulates the indicator and metrics (Complex Machine learning and deep learning models) for drought modeling which are most relevant to the SA region. This study sum up as most common challenges in drought modeling are, highlighting current challenges such as incomplete and inconsistent datasets, lack of explainable and interpretable models, and unavailability of data for model uncertainty analysis.
