The paper is devoted to developing scientific principles, methods, means, and information technology of model-oriented verification and evidence-based assessment using functional safety and cybersecurity cases for programmable systems of critical applications (PSCA). In particular, information and control systems important for the safety of nuclear power plants (NPPs), aerospace systems, railway domains, etc., developed using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and hardware platforms are reviewed. The goal is to ensure the guaranteed completeness and reliability of its functional safety and cybersecurity assessment by developing and implementing a set of formal and semi-formal methods and tools that consider defects of different nature - physical, design, trojans, and vulnerabilities that can be attacked and lead to a fatal system failure, which results in damaging the critical IT infrastructure. The methods shown are based on integrating algebraic, tabular, graph models, and case assessment methodology. The methods are implemented as appropriate technologies for evidence-based verification and evaluation of PSCA. For formal methods, a prototype of a translator of Very High-Speed Integrated Circuits Hardware Description Language (VHDL) code is developed into an algebra of behaviors. It provides evidence-based verification and a framework and tools to design reports on assessing the cybersecurity and functional safety of programmable systems. © 2023 IEEE.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. Our results show that a deployment of a pain-level deep learning detection framework is promising in identifying the pain level accurately. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

To satisfy the low delay, low jitter, and high success rate requirements for in-vehicle networks, IEEE 802.1 Task Group proposed Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), which has aroused increasing attention in managing time-critical services in networks. This paper resolves the following issue: how to minimize the worst-case response time (WCRT) of frame forwarding in TSN under no-wait scenarios to guarantee low-latency transmission, stability, and high success rate for in-vehicle TSN networks? Currently, some work resolves this problem by leveraging integer linear programming, and others apply heuristic methods to avoid the time complexity problem, but the success rate is affected since they are prone to get trapped in local optima. To reach a balance between time-complexity and success rate, a scheme named Frame Dynamic Priority Scheduling Mechanism (FDPSM) is proposed, where the frame dynamic priority levels are set up and frames are scheduled accordingly. The target is to maximize the success rate and minimize the WCRT for in-vehicle networks. We evaluate the proposed mechanism from aspects such as traffic forwarding time, size of windows, number of hops, and the network load, together with success rate and the simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the FDPSM for in-vehicle TSN networks. © 2025 IEEE. Evolution has always driven species change. The most interesting manifestations of evolution arise from natural selection, that favors the settling of more suitable species at the expense of others. This also occurs in cancer, where the hostile environment drives cancer cells to evolve to acquire favorable traits, phenotypes, in order to enlarge their species. A therapy can render the environment hostile, thus the physician’s role in limiting cell growth while considering their evolution is crucial. In this paper, we focus on the formalization and analysis of a novel eco-evolutionary model of cancer cells, enriched by biological considerations. Simulations validate the model and show how the role of the treatment is crucial in driving cellular dynamics.

Traditional electroencephalograph(EEG)-based emotion recognition requires a large number of calibration samples to build a model for a specific subject,which restricts the application of the affective brain computer interface(BCI)in *** attempt to use the multi-modal data from the past session to realize emotion recognition in the case of a small amount of calibration *** solve this problem,we propose a multimodal domain adaptive variational autoencoder(MMDA-VAE)method,which learns shared cross-domain latent representations of the multi-modal *** method builds a multi-modal variational autoencoder(MVAE)to project the data of multiple modalities into a common *** adversarial learning and cycle-consistency regularization,our method can reduce the distribution difference of each domain on the shared latent representation layer and realize the transfer of *** experiments are conducted on two public datasets,SEED and SEED-IV,and the results show the superiority of our proposed *** work can effectively improve the performance of emotion recognition with a small amount of labelled multi-modal data.

Stackelberg Evolutionary Game (SEG) theory models the interacting dynamics between a rational leader and a population of evolving followers, merging classical and evolutionary game theory. Although both methods are welldeveloped individually, the potential of SEG itself has not been appropriately recognized. Thus, in this paper we propose a novel eco-evolutionary model with resource mutualism and competition and we introduce a control framework based on SEGs, to steer the eco-evolutionary dynamics of followers at will. As a case study, we consider the treatment of cancer, where tumour cells are the followers that evolve in response to changes in the tumour micro-environment (and thus on available resources) and to the medical therapy, where the physician is the leader. An interesting aspect of this approach is that the objective function can be tailored according to the goal, e.g. jointly balancing tumour size, developed resistance, and toxicity of therapy, to ensure maximum quality of life for the patient. Simulations confirm the effectiveness and the potential of the proposed approach.

Crystal lattice is key in understanding magnetic interactions between atoms in solids. As the effective control of the lattice via tensile stress is limited, there are only a few demonstrations of controlling magnetic properties by expanding the lattice. This study reveals a clear correlation between enhanced magnetism, where Curie temperature (TC) is doubled from ∼60 to ∼120 K, and lattice expansion in prototypical van der Waals magnet Cr2Ge2Te6 with sputtered dielectric overlayers NiO and MgO. We ascribe the mechanism of this TC increase to a change in exchange interactions induced by strain, studied by several experimental probes and computational approaches.

In this paper, interior Γ-hyperfilters of ordered Γ-semihypergroups are de- fined and various types of them are studied. Results related to productional ordered Γ- semihypergroups were investigated. Moreover, we investigate some properties of the in- verse images of strong interior Γ-hyperfilters in ordered Γ-semihypergroups. ripALM: A Relative-Type Inexact Proximal Augmented Lagrangian Method with Applications to Quadratically Regularized Optimal Transport

Inexact proximal augmented Lagrangian methods (pALMs) are particularly appealing for tackling convex constrained optimization problems because of their elegant convergence properties and strong practical performance. To solve the associated pALM subproblems, efficient methods such as Newton-type methods are essential. Consequently, the effectiveness of the inexact pALM hinges on the error criteria used to control the inexactness when solving these subproblems. However, existing inexact pALMs either rely on absolute-type error criteria (which may complicate implementation by necessitating the pre-specification of an infinite sequence of error tolerance parameters) or require an additional correction step when using relative error criteria (which can potentially slow down the convergence of the pALM). To address this deficiency, this paper proposes ripALM, a relative-type inexact pALM, which can simplify practical implementation while preserving the appealing convergence properties of the classical absolute-type inexact pALM. We emphasize that ripALM is the first relative-type inexact version of the vanilla pALM with provable convergence guarantees. Numerical experiments on quadratically regularized optimal transport (OT) problems demonstrate the competitive efficiency of the proposed method compared to existing methods. As our analysis can be extended to a more general convex constrained problem setting, including other regularized OT problems, the proposed ripALM may provide broad applicability and has the potential to serve as a basic optimization tool. Dengue infection affects more than half of the world’s population,with 1 billion symp-tomatic cases identified per year and several distinct genetic serotypes:DENV 1–*** via the mosquito bite,the dengue virus infects Langerhans ***,B lymphocytes,and mast cells infected with dengue virus produce various cytokines although it is not clear which ones are predominant during DHF disease.A mathemat-ical model of the Dengue virus infection is developed according to complex dynamics determined by many *** from a state of equilibrium that we could define as“virus-free”asymptotically stable with a viral reproduction number lower than one which means a very effective action of the innate immune system:it stops the infectious process,the mathematical analysis of stability in the presence of the virus demonstrates that the proposed model is dynamically *** fever affects more than half of the world’s population,with 1 billion symptomatic cases and multiple genetic serotypes confirmed each year,which simulates a network of interactions between the various populations involved without considering the speeds of the processes in question which are indicated in a separate *** this research,a hybrid approach of petri nets is utilized to connect the discrete models of dengue.
