A Digital Glucose Control Strategy via Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion

In this paper, the plasma glucose regulation problem for Type 2 diabetic patients by subcutaneous insulin infusion is studied. A nonlinear time-delay model of the glucose-insulin regulatory system, which takes into account the subcutaneous infusion of insulin, is exploited for the design of a quantized sampled-data static state feedback glucose controller. Quantization in both input/output channels is considered. Spline interpolation methodologies are used in order to obtain an approximation of suitable needed past values of the system state that cannot be always available from the buffer. The stabilization in the sample-and-hold sense is used in order to prove that the proposed digital glucose regulator ensures the semi-global practical stability of the related closed-loop tracking error system, with arbitrarily small final target ball. The proposed digital glucose regulator is validated through simulations.

A protector is placed in front of the camera lens for mobile devices to avoid damage, while the protector itself can be easily scratched accidentally, especially for plastic ones. The artifacts appear in a wide variety of patterns, making it difficult to see through them clearly. Removing image artifacts from the scratched lens protector is inherently challenging due to the occasional flare artifacts and the co-occurring interference within mixed artifacts. Though different methods have been proposed for some specific distortions, they seldom consider such inherent challenges. In our work, we consider the inherent challenges in a unified framework with two cooperative modules, which facilitate the performance boost of each other. We also collect a new dataset from the real world to facilitate training and evaluation purposes. The experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms the baselines qualitatively and quantitatively. The code and datasets will be released at https://***/wyf0912/flare-removal

This study explores the stabilization of state–space fractional derivatives in semilinear distributed systems, using the Riemann–Liouville derivative of order α, where α lies within the interval 0,1. The main objective is to develop effective feedback control strategies that ensure both strong and weak stabilization of fractional outputs. Additionally, we tackle a fractional minimization problem to enhance the system's performance. A numerical simulation example is provided to demonstrate the practical significance of the proposed stabilization theorems. © 2024 The Author(s)

We study optimal procedures for estimating a linear functional based on observational data. In many problems of this kind, a widely used assumption is strict overlap, i.e., uniform boundedness of the importance ratio, which measures how well the observational data covers the directions of interest. When it is violated, the classical semi-parametric efficiency bound can easily become infinite, so that the instance-optimal risk depends on the function class used to model the regression function. For any convex and symmetric function class F, we derive a non-asymptotic local minimax bound on the mean-squared error in estimating a broad class of linear functionals. This lower bound refines the classical semi-parametric one, and makes connections to moduli of continuity in functional estimation. When F is a reproducing kernel Hilbert space, we prove that this lower bound can be achieved up to a constant factor by analyzing a computationally simple regression estimator. We apply our general results to various families of examples, thereby uncovering a spectrum of rates that interpolate between the classical theories of semi-parametric efficiency (with √n-consistency) and the slower minimax rates associated with non-parametric function estimation. We consider the unit commitment (UC) problem that employs the alternating current optimal power flow (ACOPF) constraints, which is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem and thus challenging to solve in practice. We develop a new scalable algorithm based on alternating direction method of multiplier (ADMM), which enables quickly finding a good feasible solution of the UC-ACOPF problem. Our algorithm employs the component-based decomposition that solves a large number of independent small subproblems, each of which represents an individual grid component (e.g., generator, bus, and transmission line), as well as the UC subproblem. We implement the algorithm in Julia, as part of the existing package ***, which can efficiently run on GPUs as well as CPUs. The numerical results are reported by using IEEE test instances. We investigate distributed classical and quantum approaches for the survivable network design problem (SNDP), sometimes called the generalized Steiner problem. These problems generalize many complex graph problems of interest, such as the traveling salesperson problem, the Steiner tree problem, and the k-connected network problem. To our knowledge, no classical or quantum algorithms for the SNDP have been formulated in the distributed settings we consider. We describe algorithms that are heuristics for the general problem but give concrete approximation bounds under specific parameterizations of the SNDP, which in particular hold for the three aforementioned problems that SNDP generalizes. We use a classical, centralized algorithmic framework first studied in (Goemans & Bertsimas, 1993) and provide a distributed implementation thereof. Notably, we obtain asymptotic quantum speedups by leveraging quantum shortest path computations in this framework, generalizing recent work of (Kerger, Bernal Neira, Gonzalez Izquierdo, & Rieffel, 2023). These results raise the question of whether there is a separation between the classical and quantum models for application-scale instances of the problems considered. © 2024, CC BY.

Video super-resolution (VSR) on mobile devices aims to restore high-resolution frames from their low-resolution counterparts, satisfying the requirements of performance, FLOPs and latency. On one hand, partial feature processing, as a classic and acknowledged strategy, is developed in current studies to reach an appropriate trade-off between FLOPs and accuracy. However, the splitting of partial feature processing strategy are usually performed in a blind manner, thereby reducing the computational efficiency and performance gains. On the other hand, current methods for mobile platforms primarily treat VSR as an extension of single-image super-resolution to reduce model calculation and inference latency. However, lacking inter-frame information interaction in current methods results in a suboptimal latency and accuracy trade-off. To this end, we propose a novel architecture, termed Feature Aggregating Network with Inter-frame Interaction (FANI), a lightweight yet considering frame-wise correlation VSR network, which could achieve real-time inference while maintaining superior performance. Our FANI accepts adjacent multi-frame low-resolution images as input and generally consists of several fully-connection-embedded modules, i.e., Multi-stage Partial Feature Distillation (MPFD) for capturing multi-level feature representations. Moreover, considering the importance of inter-frame alignment, we further employ a tiny Attention-based Frame Alignment (AFA) module to promote inter-frame information flow and aggregation efficiently. Extensive experiments on the well-known dataset and real-world mobile device demonstrate the superiority of our proposed FANI, which means that our FANI could be well adapted to mobile devices and produce visually pleasing results.

Few-shot segmentation was proposed to obtain segmentation results for a image with an unseen class by referring to a few labeled samples. However, due to the limited number of samples, many few-shot segmentation models suffer from poor generalization. Prototypical network-based few-shot segmentation still has issues with spatial inconsistency and prototype bias. Since the target class has different appearance in each image, some specific features in the prototypes generated from the support image and its mask do not accurately reflect the generalized features of the target class. To address the support prototype consistency issue, we put forward two modules: Data Augmentation Self-knowledge Distillation (DASKD) and Prototype-wise Regularization (PWR). The DASKD module focuses on enhancing spatial consistency by using data augmentation and self-knowledge distillation. Self-knowledge distillation helps the model acquire generalized features of the target class and learn hidden knowledge from the support images. The PWR module focuses on obtaining a more representative support prototype by conducting prototype-level loss to obtain support prototypes closer to the category center. Broad evaluation experiments on PASCAL-5i and COCO-20i demonstrate that our model outperforms the prior works on few-shot segmentation. Our approach surpasses the state of the art by 7.5% in PASCAL-5i and 4.2% in COCO-20i. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
