This paper describes a large, unabridged data-set of Java source code gathered and shared as part of the Merobase Component Finder project of the software-engineering Group at the University of Mannheim. It consists of the complete index used to drive the search engine, ***, the vast majority 1 of the source code modules accessible through it, and a tool that enables researchers to efficiently browse the collected data. We describe the techniques used to collect, format and store the data set, as well as the core capabilities of the Merobase search engine such as classic keyword-based, interface-based and test-driven search. This data-set, which represents one of the largest searchable collections of source and binary modules available online, has been recently made available for download and use in further research projects. In this paper, a new method of compound noun analysis is proposed. It uses decomposition model and unregistered words recognition. The latter contains loanword nouns, name nouns and place name. Loanword noun is recognized based on it's formed by syllables which have low use frequency in Korean syllable. Name noun is recognized based on the characteristics of Korean name and the repeatability of the certain amount of syllables. Place name is recognized by consulting place name dictionary based on the analysis of model that the place names appear. The experimental results for compound noun analysis have an average accuracy of 98.2%. The accuracy of loanword nouns recognition and name nouns recognition is 92% and 95% separately. © 2012 IEEE.

We argue here that, in recent years, the world's financial markets have become a globally interconnected complex adaptive ultra-large-scale socio-technical system-of-systems, and that this has important consequences for how the financial markets should be engineered and managed in future. Major failures in the financial markets can now occur at super-human speeds, as was witnessed in the "Flash Crash" of May 6th 2010. Events such as the Flash Crash may become more commonplace in future, unless lessons are learned from other fields where complex adaptive socio-technical systems-of-systems have to be engineered for high-integrity, safety-critical applications. In this document we review the literature on failures in risky technology and high-integrity approaches to safety-critical SoS engineering. We conclude with an argument that, in the specific case of the global financial markets, there is an urgent need to develop major national strategic modeling and predictive simulation capabilities, comparable to national-scale meteorological monitoring and modeling capabilities. The intent here is not to predict the price-movements of particular financial instruments or asset classes, but rather to provide test-rigs for principled evaluation of systemic risk, estimating probability density functions over spaces of possible outcomes, and thereby identifying potentially high-consequence failure modes in the simulations, before they occur in real life, by which time it is typically too late. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Many organizations have now adopted Service Oriented Architecture （SOA） as an architectural style to help them with architecture, design and implementation of their core services and systems. Most of these organizations are challenged in integrating SOA style with their overall Enterprise Architecture work. This framework links an SOA style with the Enterprise Architecture （EA） methodologies to help organizations organize their SOA effort as a key part of their Enterprise Architecture. The case study demonstrates the implementation of architecture goal with organization vision in service oriented organizational structure using services that align Business with technology. The framework is validated and has reserved the privileges of SOA and EA.

The recent advances in Grid and Cloud computing make new types of applications possible. At the same time, they require an infrastructure to implement heterogeneous computing resources time and cost-savely. Here, approaches that utilize design patterns, i.e., proven solutions to existing problems, seem to provide a good approach to enable these kind of applications. In this paper, we investigated which design patterns are already used in the area of Grid computing nowadays. After a brief description of the literature study design, we present our findings which include the discovered design patterns, corresponding categories, and application areas.

The customization of software process capability/maturity models (SPCMMs) to specific domains/sectors or development methodologies represents one of the most discussed and applied trends in ICT organizations. Nonetheless, little research appears to have been performed on how theoretically sound and widely accepted SPCMMs should be developed to high quality. The aim of this paper is therefore to elicit the state-of-the-art regarding the processes adopted to develop such models and to propose a systematic approach to support the customization of SPCMMs. Such an approach is developed based on ISO/IEEE standard development processes integrating Knowledge engineering techniques and experiences about how such models are currently developed in practice. Initial feedback from an expert panel indicates the usefulness and adequacy of the proposed method. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Modern information visualization in focussed on new methods for visual mappings and novel strategies for interaction and navigation through various types of view of a visual form. The paper presents the Bloom platform for visualization of complex networks with highly related entities and aggregations, both able to possess complex data attributes. It discusses two case studies assessing the scalability of the tool by creating a visualization of the large, complex networks - one of Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation, containing data of approximately 1,900 companies aggregated within a cluster hierarchy, and another of Danish companies' cluster. There are presented various visualization layouts of the company network and a representation of some company data properties over Google maps. © 2011 ACM.

Outsourcing is gaining an increasing presence in the US software development industry. As the Internet develops in emerging economies, the infrastructure required for effective outsourcing is maturing. The US software development workforce is now faced with viable competition from countries where software developer salaries are lower by an order of magnitude. In technical software engineering education, code development is emphasized as a basis of laboratory exercises and hands-on experience. Outsourcing trends bring several challenges to the technical education table. As software engineering educators, how can we prepare our students for a workforce where a key aspect of the education we provide may prove irrelevant in the near future? This paper studies the issue of outsourcing in the software engineering educational environment as a required component of a software engineering project. The first aspect presented is the outsourcing of a capstone project for the Bachelor of Science in software engineering technology program to a developer or development team in an emerging economy. An operational process is presented showing how this was done to bring outsourcing as a viable activity for student projects. The second aspect examines application of the developed framework for outsourcing as a key component of developing large scale software systems. The junior project sequence is used as a test platform where five student teams are tasked with outsourcing a component of their project given a budget of $50.00 per team. The outcome impacts their final grade. The results of this activity are presented and analyzed. Outsourcing of software development will increase in the software development industry as Internet based support infrastructure matures. The topics explored here deal with how to embrace outsourcing trends to prepare students for globally distributed software development. © American Society for engineering Education, 2010.
