Conventional active learning approaches for hyperspectral image classification (HSIC) have limitations such as incrementally growing training sets without considering class structure and heterogeneity within existing and new samples. Additionally, there is limited research leveraging both spectral and spatial information jointly, and stopping criteria are not well established. This study presents a novel fuzzybased spatial-spectral Within and Between method (FLG) for preserving local and global class discriminative information. The method first explores spatial fuzziness to identify misclassified samples. It then computes total within-class and between-class information locally and globally. This information is integrated into a discriminative objective function to selectively query heterogeneous samples, mitigating randomness among training data. Experimental results on benchmark Hyperspectral datasets demonstrate the FLG improves classification accuracy across generative, extreme learning machine, and sparse multinomial logistic regression models by jointly exploiting spectral and spatial information to expand labeled training sets strategically.

With the widespread application of digital assets and the rapid development of blockchain technology, achieving secure and efficient transactions between different blockchain networks has become an urgent challenge. Existing cross-chain methods impose limitations, e.g., hash lock technology exhibits low scalability, side-chain technology is overly complex, and notary schemes pose centralization risks. In order to address these issues, we propose a cross-chain transaction solution based on proxy re-signature technology. To tackle the centralization concerns, we employ proxy re-signature technology to decentralize the authority of notaries among transaction participants, minimizing the potential for centralization at a low cost. We further present an extended scheme that can guarantee more requirements such as higher transaction amount and shorter transaction time. Furthermore, we analyze and compare the signature technologies used in the proposed solution and provide a systematic proof of our approach's security. © 2024 IEEE.

Comparing discriminating abilities of evaluation metrics in link prediction

Link prediction aims to predict the potential existence of links between two unconnected nodes within a network based on the known topological characteristics. Evaluation metrics are used to assess the effectiveness of algorithms in link prediction. The discriminating ability of these evaluation metrics is vitally important for accurately evaluating link prediction algorithms. In this study, we propose an artificial network model, based on which one can adjust a single parameter to monotonically and continuously turn the prediction accuracy of the specifically designed link prediction algorithm. Building upon this foundation, we show a framework to depict the effectiveness of evaluating metrics by focusing on their discriminating ability. Specifically, a quantitative comparison in the abilities of correctly discerning varying prediction accuracies was conducted encompassing nine evaluation metrics: Precision, Recall, F1-Measure, Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC), Balanced Precision (BP), the Area Under the receiver operating characteristic Curve (AUC), the Area Under the Precision–Recall curve (AUPR), Normalized Discounted Cumulative Gain (NDCG), and the Area Under the magnified ROC (AUC-mROC). The results indicate that the discriminating abilities of the three metrics, AUC, AUPR, and NDCG, are significantly higher than those of other metrics. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is challenging to diagnose due to its subtle and transient symptoms, making noninvasive diagnostic tools crucial for early detection. This study explores the use of a custom ResNet deep learning model combined with the Grad-CAM interpretability technique for mTBI detection via speech analysis. Speech data were transformed into Mel-spectrograms and fed into the model for binary classification between concussed and control individuals. The Grad-CAM method provided insights into which frequency regions of the Mel-spectrogram were most important for the model's predictions, with higher-frequency regions identified as significant for the model in detecting mTBI. Using Monte Carlo Cross-Validation (MCCV), we evaluated 50 different subject train-test split configurations to gain insights into the model's performance stability and variability. This analysis can assess the model's ability to learn consistent patterns within the dataset and suggest potential generalization tendencies. The variability observed in the performance metrics distribution underscores the importance of robust evaluation methods, particularly when working with small datasets. The combination of deep learning, robust evaluation technique and interpretability in this study contributes to the development of clinically viable, speech-based tools for mTBI detection, with potential applications in sports and healthcare settings.

In this paper, we investigate joint caching and computing resource reservation for supporting location-aware augmented reality (AR) applications in an edge-assisted two-tier radio access network. We aim at minimizing the caching and computing resource consumption while satisfying the AR service delay requirement. Specifically, to capture the spatio-temporal AR service dynamics, the resource consumption minimization problem is formulated as a long-term stochastic optimization problem. Due to the time-varying service demands and tightly coupled multi-resource reservation decisions, we propose a novel resource reservation algorithm based on the Lyapunov optimization technique to solve the problem. We first transform the original long-term problem into multiple one-shot optimization problems, each of which is then solved by our designed iterative algorithm in an online manner. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the overall resource consumption compared to benchmark algorithms.

On several e-commerce platforms, internet users share opinions. Understanding people's sentiments and opinions is necessary. GloVe, which uses word contexts and matrix vectorization, is an effective word vector learning method. Vector-learning systems have improved with this method. However, the GloVe model ignores word order in context. This paper presents Positional Embedding, which integrates word order into GloVe word embeddings. We found that our Word Order Vector (PEWOVe) word embeddings method outperforms GloVe in sentiment classification. Amazon data was used to test the proposed technique. The proposed model is 2.7%, 2.5%, and 2.1 % more accurate than baseline models on GE, GEC, and GE+PE. © 2023 IEEE.

As the field of machine learning continues to advance, the importance of effective exploratory data analysis (EDA) cannot be overstated, especially in the context of classification problems. This research paper introduces an innovative and automated approach to exploratory data analysis using Autoviz, a powerful Python library designed to streamline the visualization process for machine learning datasets. The study aims to demonstrate the efficacy of Autoviz in meaningful insights, facilitating feature understanding, and supporting data preprocessing for classification tasks. Furthermore, the paper discusses how Autoviz assists in feature selection by highlighting the relevance and importance of each feature about the target variable. This feature-centric analysis contributes to optimizing machine learning models by guiding the selection of relevant input features, thereby improving model accuracy and interpretability. Autoviz is a Python library designed to automate the exploratory data analysis (EDA) process for machine learning tasks. It is specifically tailored to generate a variety of visualizations that aid in understanding the structure and characteristics of a dataset. The results indicate that Autoviz significantly reduces the time and effort required for exploratory data analysis while maintaining the quality and depth of insights obtained. The differences between Autoviz and Pycaret is discussed in this paper. It has been observed that AutoViz automates the process of exploring and analyzing data, while PyCaret is designed for the comparison, construction, and tuning of machine learning models.

With fast development of Cyber Physical System, the variety and volume of data generated from different edge servers are fairly considerable. Mining and exploiting the data would definitely bring huge advantages. However, there are two major issues exposed in the process. First, utilizing the data with high efficiency is challenging in edge computing environment. Second, data from multiple edge servers often contain sensitive information such as user preferences, which will give rise to privacy breach risks when using the data. Locality-Sensitive Hashing and amplified technology are utilized for dealing with two problems. In this paper, we propose a novel privacy-protection approach named SRchain-LSH in edge computing environment which is based on amplified Locality-Sensitive Hashing technique. In order to verify high accuracy and efficiency of our proposal, large sets of experiments are conducted. According to experimental results, our proposal shows better performance than those of comparative methods in terms of MAE , RMSE and time costs. For our method, the best value of MAE is about 0.41 and time cost is about 0.1 seconds, which are more accurate and efficient than comparative methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Internet of Things, edge computing devices, the widespread use of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, and the extensive adoption of cloud computing pose significant challenges to maintaining fault tolerance in distributed systems. As the volume and complexity of systems continue to grow, the probability of system failures also grows, leading to downtime and poor performance. Fault tolerance is pivotal in modern computing systems by preventing downtime and service disruptions, even during failures. However, adopting fault tolerance comes with additional resource consumption, such as memory, CPU, disk, and network bandwidth usage, impacting system performance. Balancing fault tolerance with system performance is crucial to optimize resource utilization while minimizing the costs associated with detecting and recovering from faults. This paper introduces a node-to-node fault tolerance coordination mechanism for distributed systems to facilitate the tradeoff between fault tolerance and the cost of performance penalties and resource consumption. The proposed mechanism is preliminarily implemented on HDFS cluster. Our proposal enables opportunities to minimize the cost of the fault tolerance impact on performance and resource usage compared to the existing fault tolerance coordination mechanism.
