DevOps practices combine software development and IT (Information Technology) operations. Our continuous needs for rapid but quality software development necessitates the adoption of high-quality DevOps tools. Therefore, it is important to learn the challenges developers face while using the currently available DevOps tools and techniques. We observed a growing number of DevOps related posts in popular online developer forum Stack Overflow (SO). While previous research analyzed SO posts related to build/release engineering, we are aware of no research that specifically focused on DevOps related discussions. In this paper, we first conduct an empirical study by applying topic modeling on 174K SO posts that contain DevOps discussions. We then validate and extend the empirical study findings with a survey of 21 professional DevOps practitioners. We find that: There are 23 DevOps topics grouped into four categories:Cloud & CI/CD Tools, Infrastructure as Code, Container & Orchestration, and Quality Assurance. In the followup survey, DevOps developers agree with our findings and mention that it requires hands-on experience before current DevOps tools can be considered easy. The survey participants raised the needs for better documentation and learning resources to learn the rapidly changing DevOps tools and techniques. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In contemporary times, heart diseases have emerged as the leading cause of untimely deaths. To tackle this alarming situation, engineers have developed a range of medical devices for diagnosing and scrutinizing various diseases. Numerous patients suffer from heart problems that pose critical threats to their lives, thereby necessitating continuous monitoring via traditional monitoring systems such as Electrocardiography (ECG). However, this technique is available only in hospitals, making it prohibitively expensive and inaccessible to remote patients. The advent of wireless technologies has paved the way for building a network of connected devices through the internet. To address this issue, a proposed ECG monitoring system comprises an AD8382 ECG sensor for reading patient data, an Arduino Uno, an ESP32 Wi-Fi module, and an IoT Blynk application. Implementing this healthcare system would enable doctors to remotely monitor patients using the IoT Blynk application installed on their smartphones, which processes and visualizes the patient's ECG signal. This monitoring process can be carried out at any time and from any location, without requiring patients to visit the hospital. To conclude, the compact and integrated system design could revolutionize the healthcare industry by making it more accessible and affordable to patients. By providing real-time monitoring, this system could help doctors diagnose and treat heart diseases more effectively. Entanglement routing plays a vital role in distributed quantum computing and quantum networks. Previous works on entanglement routing have addressed several design challenges due to limited quantum resources, failures to establish entanglement, and decoherence of established entanglement, but considered neither the limitations imposed by having a limited number of entangled photon sources (EPSes), nor the benefits of using all-optical (or quantum) switching to distribute entangled photons. In this paper, we first explore the problem of jointly optimizing entanglement routing and EPS assignment, assuming no all-optical switching capability. In other words, a pair of entangled photons generated by one EPS can be distributed to two neighboring quantum nodes. We then relax the above assumption so as to allow a pair of entangled photons generated by one EPS to be distributed to non-adjacent nodes using all-optical switching. We propose two corresponding solutions, namely, entanglement routing and EPS assignment (or ERSA), and ERSAwith all-optical switching-based distribution (or ERSA+D) that aim to maximize the number of entanglement connections between the given set of source-destination (SD) pairs while avoiding starvation and achieving fairness among the SD pairs. In order to obtain efficient solutions in a large discrete solution space in a timely manner, we first formulate each optimization problem as an Integer Linear Programming (ILP), and then propose efficient algorithms to derive near-optimal solutions based on relaxation, Lagrangian decomposition, duality iteration, and rounding techniques. Extensive simulations show that ERSA+Dcan increase network throughput by up to 1652% and 113%, respectively, thanks to EPS assignment optimization, and all-optical switching based entanglement distribution. © 1993-2012 IEEE.

Improving user engagement and platform revenue is crucial for online marketing platforms. Uplift modeling is proposed to solve this problem, which applies different treatments (e.g., discounts, bonus) to satisfy corresponding users. Despite progress in this field, limitations persist. Firstly, most of them focus on scenarios where only user features exist. However, in real-world scenarios, there are rich contexts available in the online platform (e.g., short videos, news), and the uplift model needs to infer an incentive for each user on the specific item, which is called real-time marketing. Thus, only considering the user features will lead to biased prediction of the responses, which may cause the cumulative error for uplift prediction. Moreover, due to the large-scale contexts, directly concatenating the context features with the user features will cause a severe distribution shift in the treatment and control groups. Secondly, capturing the interaction relationship between the user features and context features can better predict the user response. To solve the above limitations, we propose a novel model-agnostic Robust Uplift Modeling with Large-Scale Contexts (UMLC) framework for Real-time Marketing. Our UMLC includes two customized modules. 1) A response-guided context grouping module for extracting context features information and condensing value space through clusters. 2) A feature interaction module for obtaining better uplift prediction. Specifically, this module contains two parts: a user-context interaction component for better modeling the response; a treatment-feature interaction component for discovering the treatment assignment sensitive feature of each instance to better predict the uplift. Moreover, we conduct extensive experiments on a synthetic dataset and a real-world product dataset to verify the effectiveness and compatibility of our UMLC.

Diabetes Mellitus has no permanent cure to date and is one of the leading causes of death globally. The alarming increase in diabetes calls for the need to take precautionary measures to avoid/predict the occurrence of diabetes. This paper proposes HealthEdge, a machine learning-based smart healthcare framework for type 2 diabetes prediction in an integrated IoT-edge-cloud computing system. Numerical experiments and comparative analysis were carried out between the two most used machine learning algorithms in the literature, Random Forest (RF) and Logistic Regression (LR), using two real-life diabetes datasets. The results show that RF predicts diabetes with 6% more accuracy on average compared to LR. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Deep learning applications for medical image classification have shown remarkable promise, particularly incorporating attention-based neural networks. This is particularly relevant in medical imaging, where the integration of Artificial Intelligence assists with various imaging tasks, including classification, segmentation, and detection. Deep learning is revolutionizing medical research and playing a significant role in advancing personalized clinical treatment. However, the lack of interpretability in these models presents a significant obstacle to their adoption in clinical practice. Therefore, there is a growing need for a comprehensive understanding of artificial intelligence systems and their internal mechanisms, capabilities, and limitations, which is the focus of the field of explainable AI. This study proposes a novel attention-based explainable deep learning framework for medical image classification tasks, including Covid-19, breast cancer (BreakHis), lung cancer (LC2500), and Retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT). The proposed framework recorded overall accuracies of 98% (Covid-19 Radiography), 95% (BreakHis), 99.8% (LC2500), and 95%(OCT). For visual analysis of the outcomes, we employ and use the LIME, SHAP, and ELI-5 to analyze the achieved results. The study’s primary goal is to bridge the gap between the high performance achieved by attention-based models and the necessity for transparency and interpretability in medical image diagnostics.

Optimizer is an essential component for the success of deep learning, which guides the neural network to update the parameters according to the loss on the training set. SGD and Adam are two classical and effective optimizers on which researchers have proposed many variants, such as SGDM and RAdam. In this paper, we innovatively combine the backward-looking and forward-looking aspects of the optimizer algorithm and propose a novel ADMETA (A Double exponential Moving averagE To Adaptive and non-adaptive momentum) optimizer framework. For backward-looking part, we propose a DEMA variant scheme, which is motivated by a metric in the stock market, to replace the common exponential moving average scheme. While in the forward-looking part, we present a dynamic lookahead strategy which asymptotically approaches a set value, maintaining its speed at early stage and high convergence performance at final stage. Based on this idea, we provide two optimizer implementations, ADMETAR and ADMETAS, the former based on RAdam and the latter based on SGDM. Signal propagation in a particular region differs from another due to differences in atmospheric, climatic and environmental properties, distinct terrain and clutter features. Adequate analysis is essential to understand the radio propagation behavior in a particular region. The ITU-R designated four rain regions, M, N, P, and Q, for Nigeria representing the rain rate distribution and also provided further classifications based on ground conductivity, among other salient parameters. Based on these classifications, this paper utilized the EDX Signal Pro software® to model and simulate a typical Point-to-Point (P2P), Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) link scenarios for 5G networks. The objective was to estimate and compare the total loss, excess loss, and flat fade margins for each rain region in Nigeria. Results obtained from the comparison showed that signals propagating in region N experience the highest level of losses and fading, while, region Q has the least losses and fading. © 2023 IEEE.

ITU-R categorized Nigeria into four rain regions (i.e., M, N, P, and Q) depending on the atmospheric conditions. Previous works that have conducted rain and attenuation modeling and simulations have assumed similar signal propagation behavior and parameters within locations categorized under the same region. This paper aims to explore these assumptions by conducting an extensive radio propagation simulations of point-to-point microwave links with a clear line-of-sight in order to estimate the total path loss (attenuation), excess path loss, and flat fade margins for each of the locations within the M-regions, i.e., Kano, Sokoto, and Adamawa. Results obtained showed that in all the locations, the loss monotonically increases with distance, with Sokoto having the highest level of signal losses and fading, while, Adamawa has the lowest. The deviation for both total loss, excess loss, and flat fading margin was found to be between 15 dB across the region. © 2023 IEEE.

The growing number of autoimmune diseases necessitates the needs novel drug delivery system alternatives to improve targeted therapy. The study deals with the immediate requirement for improvements by investigating the limitations of existing systems, highlighting their limitations in precision, patient adherence, and real-time monitoring. The proposed system combines Internet of Things (IoT) technology into medicine distribution, providing an extensive structure that makes use of smart devices, sensors, and networking solutions. The integration attempts to improve patient participation and treatment efficacy by ensuring tailored regimens. The study demonstrates promising discoveries in optimizing therapeutic interventions, cost-effectiveness, and data-driven insights through an in-depth evaluation of case studies and successful implementations. The proposed IoT-enhanced drug delivery system not only addresses the limitations of existing systems but also represents an evolution for healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical businesses. Patient privacy and data security are essential for ethical and regulatory reasons. The study's results and analysis highlight the proposed system's potential for overcoming limitations and enhancing targeted therapy for autoimmune disorders, setting the groundwork for a future in which IoT seamlessly interacts with drug delivery systems to transform patient care.
