In recent years multi-core processors have seen broad adoption in application domains ranging from embedded systems through general-purpose computing to large-scale data centres. Simulation technology for multi-core systems, however, lags behind and does not provide the simulation speed required to effectively support design space exploration and parallel software development. While state-of-the-art instruction set simulators (ISS) for single-core machines reach or exceed the performance levels of speed-optimised silicon implementations of embedded processors, the same does not hold for multi-core simulators where large performance penalties are to be paid. In this paper we develop a fast and scalable simulation methodology for multi-core platforms based on parallel and just-in-time (JIT) dynamic binary translation (DBT). Our approach can model large-scale multi-core configurations, does not rely on prior profiling, instrumentation, or compilation, and works for all binaries targeting a state-of-the-art embedded multi-core platform implementing the ARCompact instruction set architecture (ISA). We have evaluated our parallel simulation methodology against the industry standard Splash-2 and EEMBC MULTIBENCH benchmarks and demonstrate simulation speeds up to 25,307 Mips on a 32-core ×86 host machine for as many as 2048 target processors whilst exhibiting minimal and near constant overhead.

Many dynamic routing architectural patterns are available, including distributed routing, e.g., using the sidecar pattern, or centralized routing, e.g., using event stores or service buses. Different Quality-of-Service (QoS) factors influence routing schemas and technology selection, such as performance, reliability, scalability, and control properties offered by the patterns. An analytical model can formalize the QoS factors and facilitate the architectural decision-making when changing the routing scheme, i.e., to more distributed or centralized routing. So far, the impact of these architectural patterns on performability, i.e., the overall performance of a system with impeded reliability, has not been extensively studied. This is important because deciding to increase performance, e.g., by parallel processing of requests, may lead to decreased reliability because of the added points of a crash. We propose an analytical performability model during component crashes. For the empirical validation of our proposed model, we ran an extensive experiment of 2412 hours of runtime on a private cloud infrastructure and Google Cloud Platform. The low prediction error of 1.75 % indicates the high accuracy of our performability model. These results provide important insights when making architectural decisions regarding service- and cloud-based dynamic routing.

Wireless mesh networking has been a very hot research topic in recent years. Large Cyber-Physical Systems, such as community health/security- monitoring networks and vehicle communication networks, are using wireless mesh network technology to build data transmission infrastructure. In this paper we study the problem of generating broadcasting trees in a given community mesh network. The target is to generate a broadcasting tree for each Base Station, and all the wireless links in the network should be evenly used. This will not only decrease the congestion but also increase the survivability of the whole network. We propose several algorithms for computing broadcasting trees that can achieve good congestion performance, both simulation data and theoretic analysis will be presented to support our result. © 2011 IEEE.

Good service design is key to acceptance and success for a service-oriented architecture (SOA) in an enterprise. Enterprises try to achieve good service design by using guidelines which combine experts' experience, company policies and best practices. Applying, evolving and maintaining guidelines overburdens service designers and reviewers due to the amount and volume. This results in inefficient, costly and frustrating processes. Without an automated support, guidelines provide only limited value to the design process. We describe how our design environment prototype addresses these problems and introduce automatic guideline checks using heuristics on service models. Our evaluation confirms applicability and advantages of our tool. We present a selection of heuristics which are used in our tool. As the second contribution we describe our plan of how to support evolution and maintenance of guidelines and heuristics.

This past October, the Associated Press reported that for over a month hackers effectively penetrated Microsoft's firewall and, potentially, had access to source code for future products. Over the past year, reported commercial espionage has been increasing steadily. These events underscore the necessary for security engineers to define and implement strong information assurance infrastructures. The concept of defense in depth is used to provide sufficient detection and defensive countermeasures to ensure an enterprise's information is protected. Over the past three years, Harris has conducted research leading to the development of an assurance superstructure tool: the Integrated Design Environment for Assurance (IDEA). Building upon concepts developed during the Network Vulnerability Tool (NVT) program, the IDEA program refined the design and provides a comprehensive assurance analysis superstructure. The IDEA program benifited from the NVT architecture to gain greater adaptive capabilities to address the evolving capabilities of external vulnerability assessment and risk management tools. This re-architected solution builds upon lessons learned during the NVT project.

Understanding Behavior of Third-Party Components: The Imune Approach

Application designers integrate numerous third-party components into their software systems. Therefore, they must ensure these third-party components behave according to components' design specifications at runtime. Behavioral Conformance Checking (BCC) methods are employed to assess whether or not the implementation correctly adheres to the specified behavior. However, existing methods often overlook the role of application designers as end-users of these third-party components concerning understanding the behavior of third-party components after applying BCC methods, as they are typically neither part of the implementation nor design specification. We aim to simplify BCC's application to different third-party components within the system and enhance application designer's understanding of third-party component behavior. To achieve the objectives, we extend existing conformance-checking methods by introducing (1)~a configurable state variable mapping and (2)~explanation elements. We detail existing methods and their deficiencies. We conduct a comparative user study against code inspection to evaluate the behavior understanding with 10~participants. The understanding tasks concern two third-party software projects: Producer-Consumer and ReadWrite lock. The results show that, on average, participants obtained 26.35\% higher understandability score when using our approach than the code inspection method. The results suggest BCC's significance in facilitating comprehension of third-party component behavior for the application designer's role. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Recently, robot technology is actively going on progress to the field of various services such as medical care, entertainment. These service robots are in use for home management nearby person, and so need to operate safely. Fault tolerance is a performable capacity without influence of fault although fault is occurred hardware or software and guarantees safe operation of systems. This paper proposes a robot system providing fault-tolerant services in distributed environment. The systems are developed to apply to robot middleware for supporting fault-tolerance. The robot middleware is divided into three layers of a Service Layer (SL), Network Adaptation Layer (NAL), Network Interface Layer (NIL) and includes Operating System Abstraction Layer (OSAL), Fault-Tolerant Manager (FTM). Especially, Service-Adaptive Engine (SAE) in SL and Fault-Tolerant Manager provides fault tolerance for this middleware and are easy to dynamic expansion. Also, these systems are component-based structure, and so provide reusability, lightweight to load various robot systems.

Wireless mesh networking has been a very hot research topic in recent years. This paper proposed an equivalent source modeling method of the external complex electromagnetic interference (EMI) coupling on a cable connected to the electronic devices shielded by a chassis. The Norton theorem is used to develop the equivalent circuit of the EMI source. The moment method (MOM) in FEKO is used to calculate the short current and port impedance in Norton equivalent circuit, and curve fitting is used in ADS to obtain the exact parameters in the circuit. Finally this equivalent circuit could characterize the influence that the external EMI has on the electronic devices. This method can solve the problem that how to model the multi-interference source in a near-field strong coupling and miniature-size space, and can be used in the conducted susceptibility analysis of coupling coupler injection and probe injection.

Study on Laves phase in an advanced heat-resistant steel

The Laves phase is one of the most significant precipitates in ferritic/martensitic heat-resistant *** phase precipitates in the creep rupture specimens with different rupture life were studied on a 10 wt.% Cr heat-resistant steel. JMatPro thermodynamic and kinetic calculations were carried out to simulate and predict the precipitation behavior of the Laves phase in the steel at the equilibrium state. The morphologies of the Laves phase developed with creep time were characterized under both scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Effects of Co on the growth behavior of Laves phase and the corresponding fracture mode were analyzed. It was found that the Laves phase in the steel grew to 200 nm in size after only 1598 h at 600℃,indicating that the addition of Co in the steel could accelerate the growth of Laves phase, and the coalescence of large Laves phase would lead to the brittle intergranular fracture.
