Due to memory bandwidth limitations and computational complexity considerations in hardware implementations, block matching combined with lscr 1 error norm and translational motion model is preferred in motion-estimation algorithms. Performance of this scheme is degraded by noise, compression artifacts, rotation, repeating structures, motion boundaries, zooming, and brightness changes. In this work, we present a Bayesian approach to incorporate prior information into block matching. Hypothesis testing is utilized to choose the most applicable prior motion vector and to compute a prior motion-vector distribution and its precision. Prior distribution is then updated with motion-vector likelihood derived from pixel data to obtain the posterior distribution, which is maximized via a search on the feasible motion-vector space.

The Transactions on Pattern Languages of Programming subline aims to publish papers on patterns and pattern languages as applied to software design, development, and use, throughout all phases of the software life cycle, from requirements and design to implementation, maintenance and evolution. The primary focus of this LNCS Transactions subline is on patterns, pattern collections, and pattern languages themselves. The journal also includes reviews, survey articles, criticisms of patterns and pattern languages, as well as other research on patterns and pattern languages. This book, the third volume in the Transactions on Pattern Languages of Programming series, presents five papers that have been through a careful peer review process involving both pattern experts and domain experts. The papers present various pattern languages and a study of applying patterns and represent some of the best work that has been carried out in design patterns and pattern languages of programming over the last few years.

Challenges in spatial planning include adjusting settlement patterns to increasing or shrinking populations;it also includes organizing food delivery in rural and peripheral environments. Discourse typically starts with an open problem and the search for a holistic and innovative solution. software will often be needed to implement the innovation. Spatial planning problems are characterized by large and heterogeneous groups of stakeholders, such as municipalities, companies, interest groups, citizens, women and men, young people and children. Current techniques for participation are slow, laborious and costly, and they tend to miss out on many stakeholders or interest groups. We propose a triple shift in perspective: (1) Discourse is reframed as a requirements process with the explicit goal to state software, hardware, and organizational requirements. (2) Due to the above-mentioned characteristics of spatial planning problems, we suggest using techniques of requirements engineering (RE) and CrowdRE for getting stakeholders (e.g. user groups) involved. (3) We propose video as a medium for communicating problems, solution alternatives, and arguments effectively within a mixed crowd of officials, citizens, children and elderly people. Although few spatial planning problems can be solved by software alone, this new perspective helps to focus discussions anyway. RE techniques can assist in finding common ground despite the heterogeneous group of stakeholders, e.g. citizens. Digital requirements and video are well-suited for facilitating distribution, feedback, and discourse via the internet. In this paper, we propose this new perspective as a timely opportunity for the spatial planning domain - and as an increasingly important application domain of CrowdRE. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Embedded control systems used in safety critical systems need to be robust to quality-faults such as shift, noise, and spikes. Methods for finding counterexamples (quality-faults whose injection leads to violation of fault-tolerance requirements) at an early stage of control system design were proposed in the literature. Given these counterexamples, control design should be improved such that it is quality-fault tolerant. In this paper, we propose an effective methodology for finding critical components in embedded control systems which are sensitive to quality-faults based on the given counterexamples, which is an important step towards improving the control design. Experimental results on the fault-tolerant fuel controller of Simulink library show the efficacy of proposed methodology.

This work presents a static-analysis based method for analyzing the robustness of a given embedded control system design, in the presence of quality-faults in sensors, software components, and inter-connections. The method characterizes the individual components of the system by storing the relations between the precision of inputs and the precision of outputs in what we call, lookup tables (LUTs). A network of LUTs thus formed which represent the given control system is converted into a satisfiability modulo theory (SMT) instance, such that a satisfying assignment corresponds to a potential counterexample (the set of quality-faults which violate the given fault-tolerance requirements) or hot-spot in the design. Hot-spots obtained in this manner are counter-verified through simulation to filter the false-positives. Experimental results on the fault-tolerant fuel controller from Simulink automotive library demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed approach.

software maintenance is an important part of a software system's life cycle. Maintenance tasks of existing software systems suffer from architecture information that is diverging over time (architectural drift). The Digital architecture Twin (DArT) can support software maintenance by providing up-to-date architecture information. For this, the DArT gathers such information and co-evolves with a software system, enabling continuous reverse engineering. But the crucial link for stakeholders to retrieve this information is missing. To fill this gap, we contribute the architecture Information Query Language (AIQL), which enables stakeholders to access up-to-date and tailored architecture information. We derived four application scenarios in the context of continuous reverse engineering. We showed that the AIQL provides the required functionality to formulate queries for the application scenarios and that the language scales for use with real-world software systems. In a user study, stakeholders agreed that the language is easy to understand and assessed its value to the specific stakeholder for the application scenarios. © 2023, CC BY.

Unit test is major part of the software quality assurance. The unit test quality directly affects the software quality. The software enterprise takes more and more attention on unit test. However, beside the mature technical, tools and process of unit test, the effect of unit test is not very good. Base on an overall analysis of the unit test work, the paper indicates that people is the kernel and ties of the test jobs. The key point to improve the unit test level is the improvement of the Personal Capability of test personnel. The paper introduces the concepts of capability and Personal Capability in unit test. The three characters of Personal Capability for unit test are test efficiency, test quality and forecast. Personal Capability is reflected and developed by specific activities and practices. Three key practices for capability improvements are plan practice, track practice and evaluate and improve practice. The paper introduces three key practices in detail. An enterprise case is studied and the result shows that the experience of Personal Capability improvement process will provide foundation for next turn of improvement activities, and act as reference to the software enterprise that want to improve their unit test process.

A SEF (software exchange format), such as GXL (Holt et al., 2000), TA (Holt, 1997) or RSF (Wong, 1996), is used to exchange data between tools that analyze software. Researchers at Bell Canada have specified the Datrix SEF in TA (and soon to be, GXL) for C, C++ and Java. It is designed so that a parser for the language, C, C++ or Java, can read a source program and emit the program's abstract syntax tree (AST) in the Datrix format. This note explains how an entity/relation (E/R) schema (Chen, 1976) was extracted for Datrix, and gives this schema as an E/R diagram.

This work presents a study undertaken to characterise the FINISTERRAE supercomputer, one of the biggest NUMA systems in Europe. The main objective was to determine the performance effect of bus contention and cache coherency as well as the suitability of porting strategies regarding irregular codes in such a complex architecture. Results show that: (1) cores which share a socket can be considered as independent processors in this context; (2) for big data sizes, the effect of sharing a bus degrades the final performance but masks the cache coherency effects; (3) the NUMA factor (remote to local memory latency ratio) is an important factor on irregular codes and (4) the default kernel allocation policy is not optimal in this system. These results allow us to understand the behaviour of thread-to-core mappings and memory allocation policies.

software product lines aim in having a common platform from which several similar products can be derived. The elements of the platform are called assets and they are managed in an asset base being part of the product line infrastructure. Assets can include own developments, open source or third-party software modules, as well as design and project documents. In the context of the European-wide project FAMILIES, we concentrated on techniques used to populate the asset base by recovering assets from existing systems. We present an approach on how to incorporate existing assets into the product line infrastructure. Thereby we explicitly distinguish the asset origins and the different information sources available. The incorporation is a quality-driven process that is backed up by a set of reverse engineering techniques to evaluate the asset's internal quality. The quality assessment of an asset is the critical measurement for industrial development organizations in order to incorporate assets into their product line infrastructure.
