The recent advances in genetics technologies have led to high-throughput characterized different biological molecules’ functionalities. The availability of heterogeneous omics sparked the challenge of integrating them for further analysis. This work incorporates the Isomap technique to embed multi-omic data into a convolutional neural network (CNN). The deep learning model fuses three omics data, which are gene expression, copy number alteration (CNA), and DNA methylation data, for breast cancer stage prediction. Isomap is utilized to convert the high-dimensional data into 2-dimensional maps. The gene similarity network (GSN) map is created based on gene expression data to preserve gene relationships. The values from three omics for each sample are used to color the GSN map based on the RGB system. The created GSN maps for all samples are fed into the CNN for *** model was applied to TCGA breast invasive carcinoma data set to predict the stage of breast cancer. It outperformed the state-of-art iSOM-GSN model in performance metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, f1-measure, and area under the curve (AUC). The results indicate that a combination of Isomap embedding technique and CNN can successfully integrate a multi-omics data set for cancer outcome prediction, including the diagnosis and prognosis of the complex disease.

This work investigates and evaluates the capabilities of an explicit finite-difference time-domain (FDTD), a fast multipole indirect boundary element method (FMBEM), and a ray acoustic solver in the context of room acoustic modeling and simulations. In room acoustic simulations, the wave-based FDTD and FMBEM methods are known for generating accurate results at low frequencies, while the ray acoustic technique is in principle more valid at higher frequencies. The numerical aspects of setting up the solution for each solver are discussed. Special attention is given to the influence of material input data of various degrees of detail. Single/multiple frequency-independent/dependent materials are considered in the model setup. The modeling capabilities of the three solvers in handling material input with various complexities are analyzed. Numerical results are evaluated in both frequency and time domains. Room acoustic parameters, including the reverberation time, early decay time, clarity, and definition, are compared. These results are also compared with available measurement data. Last but not least, the computational efficiencies of the three solvers are briefly discussed. © 2022 Internoise 2022 - 51st International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control engineering. Image matting is an essential image processing technology due to its wide range of ***-based image matting is one of the main branches of image matting research that estimates alpha mattes by selecting the best pixel *** is essentially a large-scale multi-peak optimization problem of pixel *** study shows that particle swarm optimization(PSO)can effectively optimize the pixel ***,it still suffers from premature convergence problem which often occurs in pixel pair optimization that involves a large number of local *** address this problem,this work presents a parameter-free strategy for PSO called adaptive convergence speed controller(ACSC).ACSC monitors and conditionally controls the particles by competitive pixel pair recombination operator(CPPRO)and pixel pair reset operator(PPRO)during the *** performs CPPRO to improve the competitiveness of a particle when the performance of most of the pixel pairs is worse than that of the best-so-far *** is performed to avoid premature convergence when the alpha mattes regarding two selecleu particles ae liglly *** results show that ACSC significantly enhances the performance of PSO for image matting and provides competitive alpha mattes comparing with state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms.

Nowadays, the LCL (inductor-capacitor-inductor) filter is an integral part of every power electronic converter system operating on current control. Though higher order, the LCL filter due to its high harmonic suppression capability are widely adopted in back-to-back converter systems or grid connected converter systems. Normally, with LCL filter, the control system follows double closed loop with outer loop controlling DC voltage and inner loop controlling AC current. However, for some special applications like common DC-bus-configured motor emulator (ME) system, the DC bus voltage is not required to be controlled. In addition, the presence of LCL filter introduces cross coupling of flux and torque component in case of AC motor emulation. The double closed loop control is generally adopted to decouple torque and flux components, however the controller design is more complex process. Therefore, this paper presents a single loop control of a common DC-bus-configured ME system with LCL filter based on state feedback linearization method. The decoupling equations in direct and quadrature axis are derived here. The simulation results presented for a 2.0 kW PMSM motor validate the stability as well as closed loop operation of the system with single loop control. © 2021 IEEE.

Fast internal detection and location in Shunt Ca-pacitor Banks (SCBs) can lead to the prevention of damages to other SCBs' elements and consequently avoid undesirable performance and effects in power system operation. This paper targets the performance of phasor-based algorithms of failure detection and fault location of SCBs. Being dependent on the fundamental phasor components which usually are calculated based on the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), the failure detection and fault location algorithms suffer from almost one-cycle delay. This paper provides sub-cycle phasor estimation based on the least-square technique. The proposed algorithm is evaluated for different configurations of SCBs considering different fuse protection designs. The proposed method provides a criterion for relay decision-making in the case of multiple faulty phases condition. The proposed method is designed to monitor and detect consecutive failures based on the existing data of commercial relays. Performance evaluations are conducted under different circumstances namely voltage unbalance conditions and multiple internal fault locations.

The field of natural language processing (NLP) has dramatically expanded within the last decade. Many human-being applications are conducted daily via NLP tasks, starting from machine translation, speech recognition, text generation and recommendations, Part-of-Speech tagging (POS), and Named-Entity Recognition (NER). However, low-resourced languages, such as the Central-Kurdish language (CKL), mainly remain unexamined due to shortage of necessary resources to support their development. The POS tagging task is the base of other NLP tasks;for example, the POS tag set has been used to standardized languages to provide the relationship between words among the sentences, followed by machine translation and text recommendation. Specifically, for the CKL, most of the utilized or provided POS tagsets are neither standardized nor comprehensive. To this end, this study presented an accurate and comprehensive POS tagset for the CKL to provide better performance of the Kurdish NLP tasks. The article also collected most of the POS tags from different studies as well as from Kurdish linguistic experts to standardized part-of-speech tags. The proposed POS tagset is designed to annotate a large CKL corpus and support Kurdish NLP tasks. The initial investigations of this study via comparison with the Universal Dependencies framework for standard languages, show that the proposed POS tagset can streamline or correct sentences more accurately for Kurdish NLP tasks. © 2025, CC BY.

Efficient RGB-D semantic segmentation has received considerable attention in mobile robots, which plays a vital role in analyzing and recognizing environmental information. According to previous studies, depth information can provide corresponding geometric relationships for objects and scenes, but actual depth data usually exist as noise. To avoid unfavorable effects on segmentation accuracy and computation, it is necessary to design an efficient framework to leverage cross-modal correlations and complementary cues. In this paper, we propose an efficient lightweight encoder-decoder network that reduces the computational parameters and guarantees the robustness of the algorithm. Working with channel and spatial fusion attention modules, our network effectively captures multi-level RGB-D features. A globally guided local affinity context module is proposed to obtain sufficient high-level context information. The decoder utilizes a lightweight residual unit that combines short- and long-distance information with a few redundant computations. Experimental results on NYUv2, SUN RGB-D, and Cityscapes datasets show that our method achieves a better trade-off among segmentation accuracy, inference time, and parameters than the state-of-the-art methods. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Consensus protocols can help guarantee security and sustainability to maintain the decentralized Blockchain system used in different scenarios and applications due to their different features. There are two main prevalent protocols, Proof of Work (PoW) used in Bitcoin and Proof of Stake (PoS) used in Ethereum. This paper reviews these two consensus protocols, PoW and PoS, and their related improvements and applications. We first introduce the basic concepts, implementations, advantages, and disadvantages of PoW and PoW and make a detailed comparison between these two protocols. We find that though providing security when honest participants are the majority, PoW may lead to excessive power consumption. While PoS is relatively insecure and leads to monopoly (centralization), though energy efficient by discarding complex hash operations. Therefore, some newly proposed consensus protocols have attempted to find a pleasant compromise between these two classic protocols. After a detailed analysis, we investigate the researches related to the defect improvements of PoS and PoW. Finally, we describe various applications of PoS and PoW, including cryptocurrencies and information storage. © 2021 IEEE.

The exploration of photon upconversion has led to the development of multifunctional lanthanide-based materials, particularly through the mechanism of photon avalanche, marking a transformative advancement in material science. In this study, yttrium vanadate upconversion nanocrystalline phosphors (UCNCPs) activated by Ho3+/Er3+/Tm3+/Yb3+ ions are reported. These UCNCPs demonstrate a remarkable ability in the photon avalanche, offering highly intense and tunable emissions across the visible spectrum at room temperature under low excitation power of 980 nm laser. The average number of photons involved in the UC process at threshold pump power, highlighting the intricate interplay of cross-relaxation and energy transfer loops in avalanche mechanism. Notably, these UCNCPs have shown exceptional temperature sensing capabilities, where non-thermally coupled levels of the Ho3+ and Tm3+ ions provide higher relative sensitivity and accuracy than thermally coupled levels of Er3+ ions. The versatility of these UCNCPs is further established by their application in solid-state lighting, where they can produce vibrant red, green, blue, and warm-white light, and in security, serving as multi-level anti-counterfeiting inks that respond to 980 nm laser illumination. These developments not only pave the way for more energy-efficient lighting solutions but also offer new avenues for enhancing the security of valuable items. The temperature sensing capabilities of these phosphors add another layer of functionality, making them ideal for high-tech applications ranging from medical diagnostics to environmental monitoring. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

This research presents an enhanced version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which integrates usability and learning objectives to evaluate the effect of adopting virtual laboratories on student performance. Data from 97 participants, gathered via a survey, was used to examine the correlation between perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and intention to use (IU) concerning their experiences and outcomes with a simulation-based virtual laboratory. A custom questionnaire was designed to assess TAM components, namely PU, PEOU, and IU, specifically in the context of virtual laboratory learning environments. Findings indicate that the integration of specific laboratory learning objectives fosters the creation of a more credible and authentic simulation tool. This, in turn, optimizes the learning process and enhances students' learning outcomes. The refined TAM model provides valuable insights into the determinants of user acceptance of virtual laboratories and offers practical guidance for educators and instructional designers to construct more effective and efficient virtual laboratory environments in educational contexts.
