It is broadly accepted that requirements engineering is one of the most important phases of a software project, and requires tools to be effective. For a variety of reasons, paper as a tool has lasted for millennia and remains ubiquitous. This paper makes a case for a contextual, conscientious, and evidence-based use of paper in a competency-oriented approach to software requirements engineering education (REE). It argues that the prophecies for the obsolescence of paper are premature, there are unique benefits in the use of paper, and the decision to use paper should be based on [0, 1] rather than (0, 1). In this regard, a need-centered conceptual model for human-paper interaction is proposed. The characteristics of paper that make it historically unique are reported and the affordances of paper relevant to REE are discussed. The REE-related activities that benefit from viewing paper as a boundary object and using different types of paper are highlighted and illustrated by means of examples. In advocating polyliteracy, the potential for a convergence of paper and digital media towards a harmonic coexistence is underscored. © 2022 Knowledge Systems Institute Graduate School. Facial expression recognition(FER)remains a hot research area among computer vision researchers and still becomes a challenge because of high intraclass *** techniques for this problem depend on hand-crafted features,namely,LBP,SIFT,and HOG,along with that a classifier trained on a database of videos or *** execute perform well on image datasets captured in a controlled condition;however not perform well in the more challenging dataset,which has partial faces and image ***,many studies presented an endwise structure for facial expression recognition by utilizing DL ***,this study develops an earthworm optimization with an improved SqueezeNet-based FER(EWOISN-FER)*** presented EWOISN-FER model primarily applies the contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization(CLAHE)technique as a pre-processing *** addition,the improved SqueezeNet model is exploited to derive an optimal set of feature vectors,and the hyperparameter tuning process is performed by the stochastic gradient boosting(SGB)***,EWO with sparse autoencoder(SAE)is employed for the FER process,and the EWO algorithm appropriately chooses the SAE ***-ranging experimental analysis is carried out to examine the performance of the proposed *** experimental outcomes indicate the supremacy of the presented EWOISN-FER technique.

Predicting water quality is essential to preserving human health and environmental sustainability. Traditional water quality assessment methods often face scalability and real-time monitoring limitations. With accuracies of 62%, 72%, 83%, 69%, 63%, 66%, 71%, 63%, and 64%, respectively, the current techniques utilized were Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest Regressor, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Naive Bayes, K-nearest neighbors, Support Vector Machine, AdaBoost, and Bagging [9]. This study addresses these challenges by leveraging Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) to balance the dataset and evaluating model performance on datasets of 5,000 and 10,000 entries per class. A robust dataset obtained from Kaggle was used, with five models – Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Feed Forward Neural Network (FFNN), Categorical Boosting (CatBoost), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Random Forest – evaluated and compared. The proposed methods demonstrate significant improvements in accuracy, with XGBoost achieving the highest accuracy of 95.53%, followed by Random Forest at 93.98%. This work underscores the importance of advanced machine learning techniques in addressing the limitations of traditional methods, enhancing accuracy, scalability, and adaptability in water quality prediction. These findings contribute to advancing environmental monitoring and management practices with reliable, data-driven insights. © 2025 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new information technology sector in which each device may receive and distribute data across a network. Industrial IoT (IIoT) and related areas, such as Industrial Wireless Networks (IWNs), big data, and cloud computing, have made significant strides recently. Using IIoT requires a reliable and effective data collection system, such as a spanning tree. Many previous spanning tree algorithms ignore failure and mobility. In such cases, the spanning tree is broken, making data delivery to the base station difficult. This study proposes an algorithm to construct an optimal spanning tree by combining an artificial bee colony, genetic operators, and density correlation degree to make suitable trees. The trees’ fitness is measured using hop count distances of the devices from the base station, residual energy of the devices, and their mobility probabilities in this technique. The simulation outcomes highlight the enhanced data collection reliability achieved by the suggested algorithm when compared to established methods like the Reliable Spanning Tree (RST) construction algorithm in IIoT and the Hop Count Distance (HCD) based construction algorithm. This proposed algorithm shows improved reliability across diverse node numbers, considering key parameters including reliability, energy consumption, displacement probability, and distance. © The Author(s) 2024.

Parameter-Efficient Federated Cooperative Learning for 3D Object Detection in Autonomous Driving

In the rapidly evolving field of autonomous driving, accurately detecting and understanding dynamic environments remains a challenge. Federated learning (FL) offers a promising approach by integrating decentralized models from multiple Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) to enhance the performance of Deep Learning (DL) based object detection methods. However, traditional FL faces hurdles such as extensive data synchronization requirements, limited data variance, and high communication costs. This paper introduces a federated cooperative learning framework that addresses these challenges by combining data from both CAVs and Roadside Units (RSUs). The framework combines local cooperative perception with global federated learning through a parameter-efficient federated learning adapter (PEFLA) and a lazy communication (LazyComm) strategy, improving DL-based object detection capabilities across diverse driving scenarios while significantly reducing bandwidth requirements. We also present a novel multi-agent-multi-town dataset V2X-Fed, specifically developed to validate the effectiveness of our approach under various conditions. Notably, our framework retains 97.51% of the detection accuracy achieved by full-model federated learning, while utilizing only 1.4% of the bandwidth typically required, demonstrating substantial improvements over conventional federated learning strategies. This study underscores the potential of our tailored approach to substantially enhance autonomous vehicle technologies with minimal resource utilization. © 2014 IEEE.

In today's connected and data-driven world, networks and digital systems need to be protected from malicious attacks. The effectiveness of conventional Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in recognizing and impeding novel threats and intricate methodologies has its limits. This study introduces a new method for improving network security by using deep learning techniques in the design and development of an intrusion detection system (IDS). The suggested Intrusion Detection System uses deep learning techniques, specifically Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), to identify and react to known and new security threats. Data can be taught to be encoded into a lower-dimensional representation and then decoded back into its original form using autoencoders (AEs). Autoencoders are a cutting-edge intrusion detection system that can lower false positives and raise overall detection accuracy because of their capacity to automatically learn from and adjust to the ever-changing threat landscape. They enhance computer networks capacity to spot irregularities and possible security threats. With the deep learning model obtaining a high accuracy of 99% in real-world threat detection, the results show that deep learning is effective in developing intrusion detection systems. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, mobile applications have attempted to significantly improve our lives. Android and iOS are the two most popular mobile platforms, yet they have varied settings (OS versions, screens, manufacturers, etc.) as a result creating a mobile application might be difficult. In recent years, several cross-platform frameworks, such as Flutter and React Native, have shown to be pioneers in this field. For developers, however, choosing cross-platform can be an intimidating task. In this research, we examine the automated testing capabilities of the Flutter and React Native frameworks in terms of automation testing. We concentrate on automation testing reusability, integration, and compatibility. We created a To-Do List mobile app in Flutter and React-Native by using *** as an automation testing platform. As a result of this research, the experiment demonstrates that React Native outperforms Flutter in terms of reusability and compatibility, with no significant difference in terms of integration, © 2022 IEEE.

Convolutional neural network (CNN)-based dehazing methods have achieved great success in single image dehazing. However, the absence of real-world haze image datasets hinders the deep development of single image dehazing. To address this issue, we propose a diverse hazy image synthesis method based on generative adversarial network (GAN) and matting. Specially, we train a GAN-based model that can transform a gray image into a hazy image. To boost the diversity of hazy images, we propose to simulate hazy images via image matting, which can fuse a real haze image with another image containing diverse objects. To evaluate the performance of dehazing methods, we propose two novel metrics: part-based peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structure similarity index measure (SSIM). Extensive experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed model, dataset, and criteria. © 2020 IEEE.

After adopting 5G technology, businesses and academia have started working on sixth-generation wireless networking (6G) technologies. Mobile communications options are expected to expand in areas where previous generations could not do so. 6G networks are anticipated to be constructed using various diverse technologies. These encompass diverse cutting-edge advancements, such as distributed ledger systems like blockchain, visible light communications (VLC), post-quantum cryptography, edge computing, molecular communication, THz, and other advances. These advances necessitate a reassessment of previous security strategies from a security perspective. In the future, networks must adhere to stricter criteria for authentication, encryption, access control, connectivity, and detection of harmful activities. Ensuring privacy and dependability necessitates the implementation of supplementary security protocols. The essay explores the primary concerns and challenges related to the security of the 6G network. This paper describes the improvements in security in communications from 1G through 6G. This paper divides security in the sixth generation into three layers: physical, connection, and service. Each layer-by-layer discusses the standard technologies and security issues for each technology proposed in each sixth-generation security layer. All proposed solutions for each of the three layers are discussed in Sixth Generation Security. It also reviews all proposed solutions for each layer, indicating the proposed solution and its limitations. © The Author(s) 2025.
